- What a day.
Fresh from the fields of South Gloucestershire Simòn the apprentice is on the fields of Perthshire. It’s XP DEUS 2 against MINELAB EQUINOX 800…. And he hasn’t even read the manual yet!
But who will conquer and which machine will come out on top?!?

Don't you dare get rid of Simon! I love his attitude and his infectious smile. Glad that you took the happy Spaniard under your wing!
I think Simon is a very nice man and he can be very lucky at detecting.
Thanks Sharon.
It gives great confidence to new Detectorists knowing that a man who hasn’t even read the manual can find such amazing things 😂 there’s hope for us all
Get used to it! Don't fire Simon.
One Thaler Frederick William King of Prussia 1692, what a lovely rare find, and congratulations to Simon on the half crown, they are both absolute belters, well done both of you.
Many thanks 😊 great info and thanks for watching
I do believe it’s a 1/3 Thaler from 1792 with Frederick William II on the front
@@harrisonpickering9655you are right.

Sunny Spanish Simon is always a welcome addition to your episodes!
20k views or he’s history 😂
My grandpa always said that people only tease you if they like you, so you must REALLY like Simon!! Fun to see the good-natured ribbing!! Great finds this time out!!🥰🥰🥰
Thumbs up for Simon! I think Simon would be a good conductor on the tour bus...I'd like to hear his version of Scottish history.
😁
Lol 😂
Poor Simon. I don't think he's got any piss left to take 😂 You both did brilliantly. I think Simon may very well be the greatest detectorist in the world though. His story is just beginning. A bit of spade practice may be on the cards mind 😄
Great video John. I loved that it was an hour long too. For the record I think your mate is brilliant. Apart from the fact that he gives us a bit of a giggle he’s honest and shows that even the most inexperienced detectorists can find great treasures. Great video as I said. 👍👍👍
You are right, Simon is a blast. 🤠🤠
That sunset was GORGEOUS! Fun finds!
The German thaler also was adopted as the Swedish currency ”daler” and was in use between 1534 and 1873 (so it would have been in use in both Finland and Norway as well). The Swedish pronounciation of ”daler” lies very close to the American ”dollar”. Simón’s ancestors would have recogniced it also as they had a ”dolar” or pieces of eight in silver. That is the currency that the US dollar is based on. /Patrik
Save Simon! Save Simon! Simon's antics are so much fun. Like chucking the piece of lead back in the hole at detectorville, then finding another signal in the same spot. OH! What could this be??? These friends are priceless, and he takes your ribbing like a champ. None better. On top of that he always seems to stumble onto the best finds! Exciting youtube content.
Another fine day with a great friend, and 6 coins each! What could be better? Well maybe sharing a pint after 4 hours of detecting!🍻
Here here!
I really enjoy your commentary. Your sense of humor kills me. 😂. Thanks for the fun times, John. One day I’m heading that way and I want you to be our tour guide! 😊
Thanks for the kind words!!! I’m glad you enjoyed my Scottish sarcasm 😂
Awesome episode. I personally love when Simon is in. He is so jolly and it’s cool to see an amateur detectorist getting excited over his finds. Congrats on the two big silvers!
🌟I wish I was there with the both of you! You are in one of the best places to be, to find things that some of us will never experience! I’m very thankful that you are sharing these wonderful outings with all of us out here in the world! You are so kind and thoughtful…. Your videos are awesome! It would be a wonderful experience to hold one of those ancient coins in my hands! Only in my dreams! Thanks for sharing these great historical videos of your finds with us!! Blessings be with you! 🌟
I would never miss your video and probably Simon adds interest
Haha 😂 thanks Jayne. There’s overwhelming support for Simòn in the comments…. I wonder if he’s getting all his friends and family to comment 🤣
He just maybe doing that.
That patina on your Victoria coin is almost as nice as the patina on my old GMC Yukon. Give Simon a break…he comes out more often than the rest of your clan…and he likes the camera. Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee.
This outing with Simon was great comic relief. Great finds, especially that Prussian coin!
Much appreciated Lee. Many thanks 😊
I want to see a Spaniard and The Scottish Detectorist travel adventure where he takes you to Spain and you find reales and escudos!
Haha 😂 sounds like a plan!! It better be cool!! 🥶
Who needs an instruction manual or glasses when you’re finding all those coins 😂 Well done to both of you! As always enjoyable and a good laugh!
Hi John! Your #1 Alaskan Fan here. Please keep Simon.
Your wish is my command!! The big Galician is actually coming out with me today!! 🙈
Let's keep Simonn he's a hoot man
Haha 😂 not too often. It drains me 😆
Thanks for another fun and interesting video. The silver coin looks like it's Frederick William II of Prussia, so it's 1792. Great find!
I was 100 years out but thanks for the ID…. Amazing 🤩 and much appreciated
@thescottishdetectorist You have to wonder how on earth a 200+ year old Prussian coin ended up in a Perthshire field !
The large key with the square opening looks a lot like some old "water keys" I have seen. The tap part is just a square stub. The key square fits over it so you can turn the water on.
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend. I’d view 20k times myself, if I knew how, in order to keep seeing Simon. Great show, y’all. Blessings from this 9am homesteader in Tennessee.
It appears to be a 1/3 Thaler of Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia 1792 E is the mint mark for Köningsberg
Amazing info! And a mint mark!! Thanks so much
Perfect duo ....i really enjoy your videos.. from Mediterranean side
Much appreciated
The Simon and John bromance vids are my favorite 😂
Hi guys,Simon is so exciting ,when he finds something.I saw Simon before, when you guys went to that place.
Yes, he gets very excited. It’s funny watching him shake and tremble with excitement 😂
Congratulations to both of you gents. Great finds! John please never lose your humor. Or giving the others a hard time. Give Simon some time and he’ll be up there with the rest of you. It’s all about learning…
What a pair you two make! So much fun and great finds. Happy to see you on your permission again. Take care, looking forward to your next post. 😉
Think we have to give the win to Simon as all his coins were pre decimal and you had 2 spendable 😂 two lovely silvers well done lads another great video as always John thanks for sharing keep up the hard work mate 👍
Well, okay, we’ll give him this one 😂
Enjoyed the hunt ! Always nice to see Double D Dominguez ! lol
Just one time, I would love to hear you say: " Captain, I'm giving all she got!" Lol.
Haha 🚀 one day…. Never say never!!
I’ve Ben watching Star Trek videos this week and that never occurred to me. 😂
I just havenee got the powuurrr cap’n 😂😂
It's taken me a while to get around to watching this, but it's not because of Simon. I needed enough time to watch this longer video. The last coin Simon found looked to me like there was a 3 on it. Maybe a thruppence? I had to laugh when you found the spendable, then got excited when you realized it tied you with Simon a 6 coins each. Thanks to you and Simon for giving me some smiles!
Loved the video, John! I always look forward to seeing what you uncover! Cant wait for the next outing, take care brother and God Bless!
Many thanks for watching! Much appreciated
You sure enjoy tormenting your compatriots. Lone watching.
Haha 😂 I can’t help myself and Simon gives as good as he gets I tell you !!
Great team. Simon double D 😂. He is a riot and people are missing out if they don’t watch.
Simon and Brad from hoover boys would break hearts all day long!😅
A properly great film that John, really enjoyed watching and Simon well what he like eh 🤣 he’s great and well done Simon with the coins and that half crown, you’re entertaining for sure 🤣💪🏼
And well done John lad, beautiful potential German big silver coin there gorgeous find that 👌🏻 well done you both, but sorry Simon mate, Scotland nailed that days diggin pal 💪🏼🤣 🏴
Thanks John, you and Simon both had some fantastic finds. Count 20,000 views here for Simon, he is fun to watch as well. On top of the great finds, you had some interesting "things" as well, they do make one ponder. Cheers from Texas.
Hello Texas...From New Mexico! We meet in Scotland!
Hello New Mexico. We meet the nicest people in Scotland, in a manner of speaking. @@cdd4248
Simon is great for comic relief 😂 great stuff……keep Simon on now & again 💥🇬🇧 Brilliant 🏴🇺🇸
Lol I love it when Simon is detecting with you- I love the contest lol
We all need a Simon in our lives , he’s such a good laugh 😊
John I love ya! Your sarcastic banter towards poor Simon has me in tears every time! 😂🤣 I love your sense of humor. Give Simon some time ( lots of time) and he may be as good as you someday. 😄👍
Nice finds John and Simon! Great video!
Many thanks 😊
1792 one Thaler! Sweet find I’m sure you know the word dollar originated from Thaler! Love the snippets of history you throw in!
Amazing finds! Congratulations! 🔥👌
Feasgar math! Hi hi hi from across the pond. North Miami Beach to be precise. You said the half penny dug up, wouldn't buy a 16th of a pint. Just a thought, a coin on what was an ancient church property is holy ground. You should see if coin collectors with interest in holy items may pay alot for said item. Love the show, now dig up the biggest gold hord in U.K. history. I'll keep watching. Cheers Lads.
Many thanks Kevin.
Much appreciated. A great big gold hoard would be lovely!! I live in hope 😂
Great finds John..that field just keeps on given and having your lucky pixie with you seems to help hahaha.
Please forgive me I was cheering for Simon to break the tie. LoL. Simon adds character to the videos always good to see a newbie out. He can always make guest appearances!
Brilliant video, excellent finds but the banter wins it. Good luck John
I really enjoy all the history you share. I've never been to Scotland your videos are as close as I will get. Simon is keeping you on your toes. Good luck to you both. Best wishes from California.😁
That My friend is a German 1/3 Thaler from about 1792. Excellent video! I love that you showed the trash finds at the end. So many people think that they will go out and just find coins and treasure. And the truth is it is a lot of junk, and bits.
Oh stop it! This is so unfair! I think you’re going to need to send me some of those coins!
That could be a silver fork!
When you said it’s a thing that’s part of something I cracked up 😂😂😂
Haha 😂 sorry
Such an awesome trip for you two! I’m just a wee bit jealous! I’m going to say it again John, you really need to think seriously about hosting trips metal detecting. YOU would be the cracker!
let's go let's go treasure and adventure✌👵
Hope you enjoy
Well it seemed like fun day. Enjoyed the competition. Thanks for the nice video. 🥰💕❤️👍👍
What a team, gotta love the interaction, great video as always. Thank you.
Thanks Nick. It was a great day that’s for sure!!
Both are good detectors and you had help so that is twice as much available to find. A nice hunt.
Thanks David. Simon gives hope to beginners. He’s not even read the manual and still finds stuff 😂
Thanks for vid. Good finds.
Great vid John congratulations on the big silver, keep them coming 👍
Much appreciated
Good episode, John. Simon getting 5 coins surely deserves another appearance? 😅
What an interesting upload. Can't fault the friendship you have with Simon, as you always find humour. I'm interested to know about your silver thaler. Great stuff. Bless up bro 👊
Much appreciated Nick. I’m doing my best to train him….. but it’s not easy!! The Thaler looks amazing!! A first for me!!
Studs are called rivets. Noticed you were searching for the word to say. Great video, even with Simon!
Save Simon. The banter is lots of fun.
John that was an amazing day helped by Simon, the silvers you both got are cracking yours wins find of the day thanks again cheers
I like Simon a lot. He's a Labrador puppy in human form 😁
Haha 😂 he’s up for adoption if you are interested??
@@thescottishdetectorist Thanks, but he doesn't really look house trained 😉
What stick you give that poor man 😂
Haha thanks Maureen. He loved it… we both use spade fulls of sarcasm and humour towards one another
Great video guys well done all 👍👍
Many thanks 😊
What a day John!! Another great hunt and comedy included!!! 😂 Congrats to you both! 👍👍👍👍👍
A train door key maybe?
Great video John.
So much entertainment when Simon is around😂
What an outstanding day of detecting by the two of you! Well done to Simon for finding that silver Half Crown (he just needs to be more careful when he's digging out those treasures.) The star of the that day was that stunning silver Prussian coin from 1792, well done John!
I'm pretty sure this video will be viewed by 1000's, and anyone who doesn't care for silly Simon is ridiculous, he's like having a comedian on the fields with you!
Excellent days detecting. Top job Bhoys.
Great fun video and so good to see the double act 😂 out competing against each other. Lovely silver and other coins, what a good permission! 6 all was a fair score and I guess he didn’t buy the Dandy button from you??? 😂
Are you kidding? Double D is a rising star!!! He finds way cool stuff!!!
Haha 😂 I’m not sure about a star ⭐️ but he gives hope to other Detectorists that you don’t have to have a clue what you are doing to find stuff 😂
@@thescottishdetectoristHe is not only a legend in his own mind, he is a legend in mine as well…what a character! You’re pretty cool as well!
…and that German eagle Thaler is awesome!!!
I think 1792
Could the "plug" fit into the other end of the fuses?
Great to see your mate Simon!
Congrats on the silver coins, me being Prussian by birth (though not made in the 1700s...)
Keep him he is good luck and company. Always a laugh at the banter between you two.
Another fantastic video John! The piece of metal that was folded with decoration on looks like one half of a locket from a necklace. The type you put photos in
Good shout Leanne. That makes perfect sense!! Thanks
Or maybe the lid part of a rouge container.
Simon seems to be a bit of a good luck charm for ya John. Better keep him around. Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend.
Lovely video John, great finds, history and laughs too! Thank you. Thank Simon too!
Great day out John and Simon!! Simon is fun to watch, vote him in! 😃 The pattern on that piece of soft, round metal you unfolded is unusual. Please update with a better picture John or if you find out what that was? It’s a something😁 enjoyed your videos , as always, knowledgeable and fun!!
The 1792 E Prussian coin seems to be quite a scarce date. Awesome find!
Doug, thanks for the ID!! Much appreciated. I thought it was 1692, I was 100 years out!! Much appreciated, that’s amazing info!! My first ever Prussian coin
79.460 minted. Yep.
John!!!! Yes it's a beauty - 1792 Prussia One third of a Thaler, E mint is Königsberg, so what's now Kaliningrad, Russia. There is a "3" or Drei missing before the Einen and an R. missing before the Thaler ... ie 3 to 1 Reichsthaler, or a 1/3.
Supposed to be 62.5% silver but apparently some were as high as 75% which was the fineness of a full Thaler. Five Thaler = 1 Gold Or
Frederick William II -(died 1797) the Prussian equivalent of a "Dirty Bertie" - known as "der dicke Lüderjahn" or literally "the fat Good-for-Nothing". Had tons of kids, a bigamist with a few "wives" and illegitimate kids all over the place, including Beethoven the composer which seems to have been confirmed by DNA analysis!
A good day's detecting lad's and a reasonable lot of finds between you well done .
You take someone, Simon, under your wing and he almost kicks the old pro’s arse! Good fun!👍🏻
Nicely done guys, hats off to you Simon, i enjoyed the video. 🇺🇸
I found your coin also. 1792 E Freid. Wilhelm King of Prussia. VERY NICE!
Ach Jock, ye canny no take Simon oot wi ye. He certainly adds comedy value tae yur videos . 😂😂
Hello John can you ask Simon and Jamie to try detect a trophy , any trophy will do , Rangers cabinet is looking a bit bare at the moment 😅😅😅
I’ll put it to them!
Great days digging John. Nice to see Simon with you. What a lovely Guy. (come on M8, Edward 7th) lol!
Awesome finds today CONGRATULATIONS......I had my fingers crossed when u was pulling out the silver coin lol 😊
love Simon's mischievous smile 😁
well done the NOX...@ 55.44...That is a lead spacer from an old printing block...maybe late 1800s

Win lose or draw Simon will always be the winner in my book! Great video!
Looks like Simon might just be your lucky charm John 😂 cracking silvers 🤩
The key may be for grandfather clock. Just a thought. I really enjoy the history you share with us Thank you.
I think Simon's mystery coin was a george 3rd forgery sixpence! I have a few similar awesome finds guys awesome days digging 👍👍
Save Simon! Great finds, you two.
Two big silvers, A very good hunt. Tell Smiley not to worry.... all of the
Bull Sharks are down in Jacksonville. I think.
24:07 hi John. I just noticed that on this decorated circular item there is a rectangle eyelet folded over on the right. Too thin to bend I think but maybe it used to be hung off a horse bridle or had ribbon through it more likely. Hope this helped mate 🤗👍
Well spotted and thanks for the identification!! Much appreciated
I was going to say the same about the eyelet, but my quess was the face or back of a locket.
Hi John, baby a top to a pocket watch, the coin-thing ?! Greetings from Denmark
