when you right click a part it should use the ksp1 menu, and there should be a separate button to open the parts manager. And then if you have the parts manager opened and you right click a part it should just open in the parts manager. This is the best of both worlds I'd say. Because when needing to quickly transfer fuel or kerbals whilst the craft isn't spinning around or anything, opening the parts manager and finding the correct parts seems like it'd be quite the hassle. I also liked how you could pin the menus in ksp1, so you could monitor specific fuel tanks etc.

Considering that the heat shield is on the other side of where the landing module is coupled, I guess you could have try to bring the lander with bill inside and try to land it on Kerbin. Maybe Parachuting bill out after the atmosphere ingress and decoupling it before opening the capsule chutes.
@@Euer_Hochwuergen Why does that matter? All the same mechanics of KSP are present, and unchanged for the most part. It's just wrapped in a prettier coat of paint, nothing wrong with that. It breathes more life into the feeling of getting into space for new and old players and gives the game more personality while retaining the same core design. Of all the flaws that the current Alpha has, I really do believe sound design is the LEAST of them entirely.
yeah, the voices for me justify buying KSP2, turns every mission so more imersive, looks like the music tone changes too when you are doing something tense
Thank you for sharing this footage with us to help us get a better idea about the game. After watching i've got a much better idea about what to expect from the initial release.
Hey Matt! Can’t wait for this to come out. Also I’m happy to announce I finally landed on the Mun for the first time in KSP since I got it in September!! 🎉🎉
Hey Matt, the thing that caused you to start spinning in your lander was trimming, in KSP1 thats when you hold ALT + WASD. It trims towards whatever you pressed at the time. My guess is you wanted to use physical timewarp and had ALT pressed while also pressing S and D from what I can see.

@@maxv9464 AFAIK it basically is, the sphere around a body where it is the primary gravitational influence. I’m no expert lol that’s just how I remember it
@@maxv9464 Actually isn't, infact the sphere of influence works only as a two body problem where the primary is the massive body (Planet/Moon ecc..) and the spacecraft mass is irrelevant, while Hill regions (like Hill spheres) are a result of circular restricted three body problems, specifically are the zero velocity surfaces and curves where the spacecraft motion can take place. Those comes by an inequality with the Jacobi integral, but the answer will be too long. Substantially Hills regions are much more complex and realistic , giving in 3D the whole points a spacecraft can moves between two primaries, one less massive than the other kne, (like earth-moon problems), while the sphere of influence Is used with Patched conics approximations for interplanetary trajectories , and describe the region where the gravitazional pull of the body is greater than the one of the sun, and that's why It can be approximated as a two body problems instead of three. The sphere of influence Is quite good for preliminare design of interplanetary missions, while earth-moon missions or in general moons (like Io, Callisto ecc...) require quite more attenction as the distances between the massive bodies are too small to garantee a good approximation. Hope my answer is understandable !
Honestly the graphics can wait, and are the first things to be modded anyway. This video really showed me that we're working from a strong foundation of QOL improvements that, I think, I will carry KSP2 well into the future as a worthy successor!
Honestly I fear that the game is too poorly optimized to allow for some larger mods. Even with just the base game with just about the most powerful computer you can reasonably put together assuming you aren't spending tens of thousands of dollars the game looks laggy. This is a HUGE red flag for adding other large mods (god forbid modpacks) as there is a good chance that 90% of the computers people have out there just cannot handle KSP2 with additional mods at this point
I have watched a few of the special preview event videos but yours was the most informative, it has taught me to lower my expectations (I am still getting it on Friday!). Thanks for sharing.
When they announced that they would start early access with basically just a sandbox i was worried that we would get a half-finished mess because the funds ran out. But this looks like a very fun experience as is! very nice.
I'm excited to watch this video- AFTER I do my first KSP2 Mun landing. But your videos never disappoint so I'm commenting and giving it a thumbs up now.
i have been playing KSP since the beta, and have put so, so much time into it. I have been holding so many reservations on ksp2, thinking they couldn't possibly be so many improvements and changes and now... i cant wait to get it.
KSC looks absolutely amazing... almost a mini Atlantis with the concentric ring of water 😅 Kerbin looks really good. Crazy to consider them visuals and "Stock" in the same context.
I can say with certainty, that the "Lowne Lazy Method of Docking" is absolutely something that many of us did within minutes of the SAS target modes being introduced (it's also nearly the docking procedure that was used for the Lunar Apollo CSM/LM docking). It's probably one of those things like auto strut that is obvious if you have a problem, but without a specific problem to solve, you wouldn't be able to figure out how to do it. Like, someone that doesn't rendezvous much (a lot of people still can't because it _is_ challenging) wouldn't try to figure out how to dock quickly, or someone that mostly docks large station pieces together, probably wouldn't want to have the large construction constantly adjusting its attitude.
I prefer the right click menus, I don't want to have to scroll through all of the parts on my craft when I only care about one part. And since you can pin menus you can have multiple things open at the same time, when flying an ssto you care about your intake air, fuel levels, and rapier thrust, with the new parts manager do you have to be constantly scrolling between them? The ship spinning out of control problem is a non-issue when you can pause the game with time warp 0 and still interact with things. I hope they can add right click menus back as an option in the future but at the very least right clicking the part should open that parts entry in the parts manager to cater to the old players
Fully agreed. I use the pin feature a lot, for complex crafts you absolutely need to. It doesn't help every element of the new UI is massive. Looks gorgeous, but if this is how it looks in 1440p, I dread having to try playing on my 1080p screen. There's some rough edges, but I'm sure they'll work out the kinks in due time. Not like I have to buy the game before it's in a state I'd play it in.
5090, a card that doesn't exist. What CPU did they use, RAM? Which is also important. Especially when calculations going on in the background. It's an early access release it will have performance problems and bugs and missing content. How good of an early access title it will be ? We have to wait for the first couple of days after release and upcoming weeks/months. I wouldn't set my expectations insanely high for the very first early access stage.

So glad that you saw the tumbling as well. I tried 3 Mun launches and ended up tumbling on every single one and my fuel mysteriously disappeared out of my current stage. Glad it's not just me!
I've never personally played the first KSP. I just love the videos you and the community make in the game. I've been wanting to play it lately, but I decided to wait for KSP 2 because by the time I would have learned how to actually play the first one, this one would already be out.
That "side mode" is an orthographic view. Basically 3d but without perspective. That's handy for the reasons you specified and it's something I've always wanted in the base game. Now I can imagine players sharing diagram like views of their rockets.
Ksp2 really separates Kerbin from Earth because the Kerbals really have fun with space exploration and they're all just happy to be part of the crew :D
I've always found this length of video a lot more 'natural' for KSP and I have no issues skipping around the video if I feel the need to speed something up.
I absolutely love the design. I think this will end up like Red Dead 2 in the sense that it was designed for next gen hardware in order to bring out the game's full graphical potential. I can already feel the thousands of hours I'm going to spend in this game slipping through my fingers. Good health and fortune to the developers, and may they continue to work on the game with the same passion they have so far until it is done!
I think you've summed it up perfectly as to why its performing poorly, but that doesn't really work with a game with such a low number of users in comparison. Lets just hope it doesnt go the way of RDR2 Online and end up abandoned by Take 2's demands.
Super excited for the game! I am worried about how much they are promising to do later though, I realize that this is a beta but no AutoStrut is worrisome for how many other small things that I use on my crafts wont be there on launch...
I'm not optimistic. It doesn't seem to be very well optimized based on the specs he listed just to run at 1440p 60fps. It's also weird in my opinion for a sequel to have less content than the original at launch.
@@aethlred7380 Remember that this isn't at launch. This is Early Access, which means the game is still in development. @@matthewdossantos1414 yes I'm aware of what early acess is. But I'm not paying to be an alpha tester. It's a sequel it should launch completed. The fanbase is very specific with no alternatives it will still be there if you had to delay another year to actually finish the game or to atleast have the first ones content fully transferred. I understand a stance of dripfeeding stuff like multi-player and interstellar travel but to be missing stuff from the original just isn't acceptable. And stuff like optimization is a pain to improve so that likely won't change much just more powerful computer parts will launch making the game run better.
I'm so stoked for this game, one thing I've always had a curiosity about though with the design, typically these maneuvers are very planned out in execution prior to a rocket ever being built, because they would need to build the vehicle to fit the mission, but in kerbal space program, it's more like, build a rocket, make maneuvers up on the fly, and hope it works
I am quite excited about KSP2. however I am a bit puzzled about what happened. The game really feel unpolished for the number of development years that they spent on it. This demo really feels like a development build you would provide to QA for early comments. I think that I will wait until next fall to order it. The bugs pointed out by Matt are super basic and should not have been there in an early release. This is weird and feels rushed out. I do believe that in the end, the community will make everything works.
I absolutely agree lots of bugs and horrible performance on several parts. And wheel physichs and ground physichs even kerbal physics leaves alot to be desired compared to the first game.
I take it you haven't actually seen what "dev build for QA's early comments" really looks like. It's also so weird to hear someone talk about "polish" based on the number of development years.
@@NACLGames LOL SBG, I am an R&D Director at a software development firm (dead serious). So yeah ... I do know what a dev build and QA are. And yes, I do still think that the build that they provided to the youtuber is unpolished. They knew for fact that these clips would be all over youtube, and they took the hard decision to let them play on that build, knowing that delaying the release would have a nastier effect on the community than showing it unpolished. It is fine they did it, but after 4 years and all the features kicked out (Science, multi system, mp, colonies ...), I would have expected something cleaner so close to the release date.
@@steph4050 absolutely too many people talking about them playing on an old build and such and it will supposedly be better😝. The build in the video is the very best they had on offer 3-4 weeks ago. And it will be very very similar to the release on the 24th not enough time to fix major issues. Whole thing is being pushed out top down way to early by 2K financial guys.
@@Infernal_Elf Indeed, the publisher push is a strong possibility. I know the game will be awesome in the long term, but I am afraid that they could create bad publicity by releasing too early. Changing a community opinion on a game is extremely hard to do. We all know the Cyberpunk story ;)
Lazy docking has been around for a while, but with big fragile slow docks its best to approach from the (anti-)normal so the docking port doesn't turn away as it orbits.
I have been so excited for KSP 2 to come out, more so than for any other game, which is why this is so disappointing. It’s literally just a reskinned KSP 1 that they released 3 years late. This, to me, feels like alpha gameplay. It’s not even as good as lightly modded KSP 1. What are the devs doing?
The rockets look good, but the clouds are extremely low resolution. Kerbin in general looks much worse than modded KSP1. But the worst thing is not that, but the optimisation. The game feels extremely slow at times and we're talking about a 4080. To top it off, the game has no content after a lot of years of development. I understand that people get caught up in the excitement of a game we love, but realistically, things don't look good. Disappointment is on the way.
Yep. It's why I'm pirating it when it launches. When you have a sequel with 0 extra content and actually missing stuff from the original is a bad start. Also needing a 4080 for 1440p and 60fps is insane. That's something a middle to upper tier 30 series should do.
The ships and plumes look really good but the clouds are on a 2d plane after you fly above them and look pretty flat and have that odd tiled look to them. Not a patch on the proper volumic cloud mods in ksp1. The ground looks very basic compared to that parallax mod and doesn't even have collision meshes on anything. The lack of reentry heating is disappointing as well. And yeah, it will take them a year or more to get the feature set up to ksp1. I know ksp1 was pretty barebones when it first launched but it wasnt 50 quid and wasnt hyped like this. Releasing the game in this state so your customers can pay to be your bugtesters is a bit of a cheek tbh. Im gonna hold off getting it till its got more content.

I know its a coincidence from this stream being from a special event, but during assembly, have matt's, scott's and other content creators commenting as ambient noise is kind of awesome. It matches the ample assembly building sound profile. Amazing.
Love how the kraken is still in ksp2 with those fairing separations. Always loved physics jank
Doesn't look all that promising 3 weeks before launch. I'm glad people like you can test it, the devs have time to fix it, and I can buy it a year later in a solid state. Thanks for that.
The developer team must include the memorials for all the Kerbals that died on the pre-release event, at the locations they died, as their sacrifice is instrumental to the science!
Bill: *Gets abandoned on Mun*
Also Bill: They're groovin'
Hands Lowne(down), this was the best video to have come out of the ESA event. Love how Matt takes time to share details about what he saw and what he played over an hour whereas the videos released by the other attendees were like 15 minutes and didn't show much.
By far my favorite KSP player. 🙌 The Vanilla experience of KSP2 is Night and Day! Most console players don’t even have those mods! Definitely getting KSP2 on February 24th! 🥳
Congrats Matt, we’ve been looking forward to this for so long🎉
Man, seeing this feels like when I first saw gameplay from KSP1 when I was like, 17 browsing YT for games. The same feeling of awe and "wow"
Jeb when he flies untitled space craft in ksp1: I’m gonna die again aren’t I, LETS DO THIS
Jeb in ksp2 when he flies fly safe: I’m gonna die again aren’t I, LETS DO THIS
I love the countdown because it shows that the kerbals still use backwards Spanish as a language
As a Spanish speaker, I confirm that it is very noticeable that he is saying numbers in Spanish backwards, epic
Considering that the heat shield is on the other side of where the landing module is coupled, I guess you could have try to bring the lander with bill inside and try to land it on Kerbin. Maybe Parachuting bill out after the atmosphere ingress and decoupling it before opening the capsule chutes.
"Doesnt that inspire you to just murder- i mean launch kerbals into space?"

Two of the same thing after leaving Bill on the Mun.
Love the cute cheering when stage separation is confirmed
idk thats one of the things that makes me nervous that it could be just too much mainstream focus in the end
Ngl it was smart from your part to do a Apollo style mun mission as your first video, not only is this one of the first thing people do in ksp this also showcase docking, rendez-vous, landing, re-entry and basic orbital mechanics. After watching i've got a much better idea about what to expect from the initial release.
Hey Matt! Can’t wait for this to come out. Also I’m happy to announce I finally landed on the Mun for the first time in KSP since I got it in September!! 🎉🎉
Good work! It isn't as easy as I thought it would be. Took me ages to pull that off.
@@waylanddavick9459 yeah it’s tough. I also just sent a rover over there and managed to land in the dark, I wasn’t expecting to need lights 😂
Have you pulled off the return mission yet? I found it quite the special moment to bring a Kerbal back from a Mun Walk
@@MediumRareOpinions I have actually, using a few save files I managed to return him to the capsule before returning them home
I love that you ditched him on the surface instead of leaving him in orbit in the perfectly good lander craft.
I love how Matt landed on the engine bell on Mun because he put the landing gear too high up
Because the landing gear is shorter then the engines STILL, man they are not fixing/improving anything.
@@Thorgon-Cross Use different landing gear or different engine if it's too difficult for you to press 2 and use the move tool. But that would make sense given your braindead comments all over this place
@@nicazer Yes I know how to use the move tool. The point is you should not need the move tool to have your landing gear floating in air just to reach past the short engines made for landing. Before you go calling other peoples comments braindead you should check your own...

i really like how the game shows the Hill spheres of each body. I think that will be very helpful for new players and also just satisfying to see
Is a hill sphere the same as SOI?
@@maxv9464 AFAIK it basically is, the sphere around a body where it is the primary gravitational influence. I’m no expert lol that’s just how I remember it
@@Sharpthingy Cool, thanks!
I especially like the fact that the navball doesn't hog the entire center of the bottom of the screen.
@@vicroc4 you can move and resize the navball in stock ksp 😆
Honestly I fear that the game is too poorly optimized to allow for some larger mods. Even with just the base game with just about the most powerful computer you can reasonably put together assuming you aren't spending tens of thousands of dollars the game looks laggy. This is a HUGE red flag for adding other large mods (god forbid modpacks) as there is a good chance that 90% of the computers people have out there just cannot handle KSP2 with additional mods at this point

i have been playing KSP since the beta, and have put so, so much time into it. I have been holding so many reservations on ksp2, thinking they couldn't possibly be so many improvements and changes and now... i cant wait to get it.
I'm an Aerospace student and the rocket plumes are perfect, expanding as they go to higher altitudes. Such a cool small detail
I would have left Bill in orbit in the lander, at least he would have had life support, comms, some snacks! You are a monster, Matt!
KSC looks absolutely amazing... almost a mini Atlantis with the concentric ring of water 😅 Kerbin looks really good. Crazy to consider them visuals and "Stock" in the same context.
I personally think there's a lot on screen during flights, a lot of info to take in and all that. I like 2's build UI but prefer 1's flight UI.
I believe they said pretty early on that you'll be able to move different ui elements around where you want them. Not sure if that's changed
0:40 The fact that the kerbal didn't smash the solar panel is proof that it's not in-game footage on the menu screen.
The launch countdown/music/sfx is so wholesome 😭
@@plebisMaximus Agree with both of you, except of the word 'gorgeous' ;)
I can’t wait to play KSP 2!!

I am so excited to play this game. Watching you have a great time makes me even more excited for the release. See you at launch!
You better have an rtx 5090 because I've seen people testing the game on a 4080 and it was 20 fps 😐
@@BrikkTopX it was a ryzen 9 7950x, rtx 4080, 64 gb of ram. The game was running 20 fps when launching a rocket with 151 parts

So glad that you saw the tumbling as well. I tried 3 Mun launches and ended up tumbling on every single one and my fuel mysteriously disappeared out of my current stage. Glad it's not just me!
Looks more like KSP 1.5 than KSP 2. With a few mods you can get almost equally good graphics in KSP 1 and you can get way more parts.
Why is the Lowne Aerospace flag not included as standard? Words must be had!
Really looking forward to the implementation of the science systems, which will be the point I pick the game up. Hope everyone enjoys the game :)
''Woah! Theres another bug you probably won't encounter!''
yeah... About that.
An hour isn’t long enough!!! I need a full 24 hour stream!!
I'm unsure on the nav ball being left oriented, it allows it to be bigger which is a plus, but I like it being in the middle on KSP
The countdown gives me chills every time.
Don't think of this as a completed game, think of it as them sending it out and asking "Hey, this is what we have so far, what advice do you, the player, have before we finish it?"
Early Access isn't the same as a game on launch
@@matthewdossantos1414 The game is also $50 for early access which is pretty steep for how little we are really getting. I'm just approaching this with as little hype as I think I should. too many games have released recently where they have been huge disappointments
@@Xollll tbh im more optimistic about this game than other games like cyberpunk due to the much higher transparency from the devs. i wont be blinded by hype, but i am hopeful that this game will turn into something great.
Been waiting for a LOOOONNGG time for REAL footage of KSP2, thanks Matt great video !!!!
ksp2 looking gorgeous man
edit: why don't we wait on the menu screen shown in this video until the kerbal hits the solar panel xd
Hold the phone. You never said you would be doing this with KSP 2!!!!! I have to go to work Matt! I'll watch in 9 hours I guess. 🙃
I am sooo late for work due to watching this lol
I really love the adaptive music, I never thought it would enrich KSP feeling so well!
Lazy docking has been around for a while, but with big fragile slow docks its best to approach from the (anti-)normal so the docking port doesn't turn away as it orbits.
Where reentry effects? 🤔
Im gonna hold off getting it till its got more content.
yeah, it looks about equivalent to modded ksp1 and I run that on a 1650. plus all the bugs/missing features/regressions in the ui.
@@aethlred7380 Well I'm running Microsoft Flight Sim in a way better graphics fidelity in 1440p @ 40 fps on GTX 1070. This pixel art running @ 60 on 4080 is just a no go.
