Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. It also stars Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers, and Burgess Meredith. In the film, Rocky Balboa (Stallone), living in the slums of Philadelphia, is a poor, working-class, Italian-American small-time club fighter and debt collector for a Mafia loanshark and gets an unlikely shot at the world heavyweight championship held by Apollo Creed (Weathers).
Rocky entered development in March 1975, after Stallone wrote the screenplay in three days. It entered a complicated production process after Stallone refused to allow the film to be made without him in the lead role; United Artists eventually agreed to cast Stallone after he rejected a six figure deal for the film rights. Principal photography began in January 1976, with filming primarily held in Philadelphia; several locations featured in the film, such as the Rocky Steps, are now considered cultural landmarks. With an estimated production budget of under $1 million, Rocky popularized the rags to riches and American Dream themes of sports dramas which preceded the film.
Rocky had its premiere in New York City on November 21, 1976, and was released in the United States on December 3. Rocky became the highest-grossing film of 1976, earning approximately $225 million worldwide. The film received critical acclaim toward Stallone's writing, performance, the story, as well as the film's direction, score, cinematography and editing; among other accolades, it received ten Academy Award nominations and won three, including Best Picture. It has been ranked by numerous publications as one of the greatest films of all time, as well as one of the most iconic sports films ever made. Rocky and its theme song have become a pop-cultural phenomenon and an important part of 1970s American popular culture spawning a franchise. In 2006, the Library of Congress selected Rocky for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

That would be Awesome if Sylvester Stallone did one last movie. I'm a big Rocky fan. I started boxing and weight lifting when I saw Rocky, many years ago. I don't box anymore but I still weight lift and workout. I'm now 56 years old and I still watch my Rocky movies . And I do hope that Sylvester Stallone does a Rocky 7, the last fight.

After the way they excluded Stallone from the latest Creed movie I would fully support a Rocky 7. Not sure Stallone will even consider it though. Maybe a story line about Rocky training his own son to kick Creed Jr's backside ending with something like, "Don't you ever disrespect my dad!!" Just saying.
Rocky Balboa (part 6) was an amazing entry to the franchise. I remember thinking "please don't do this" because he was pretty old at the time... But it was a good story and ended up being somewhat believable.. Loved it!!
I hope he does a directors cut of the film. I have watched the film dozens of times and on repeat viewings I started to feel the movie had been trimmed a lot. I didn't notice it the first few times I watched it. It's a great film don't get me wrong but it just doesn't feel complete. Maybe I'm wrong and he was going for that. But rumours are that he's not satisfied with it and wants to go back and fix things
@@jplonsdale7242 When Sly had a test screening in Philly in March 2006, it ran around 2 1/2 hrs long. MGM told him "We're not releasing a 2 1/2 hr Rocky movie. Cut it down to an hour forty-five." All the material dealing with "Rocky V" wound up to the wayside.

I think we all was in that boat when Rocky 6 came out...but me and my friends looked passed all that and gave it shot and wasnt disappointed one bit. Then Creed made it even more awesome just from seeing Rocky more and the fact he finally met someone who wasnt Tommy Gunn and actually had successfully trained someone.
Are they going to have a rocky 7 or not we all know that rocky is way too to old but it would be kinda interesting if it did happen but kinda ricdulous though.
We need more people like Rocky in this world on of the best characters of all time

@@easyontheeyes78 yes I thought it was good as well but not spectacular. Definetelly worth a watch in my opinion but only mid range (at best) in the whole Rocky - Creed series. Not having Rocky in it and even no reference to him takes the shine off the movie to the point where i believe many Rocky fans aren't too bothered if they miss viewing the future Creed movies.

They should keep the story alive by having Rocky's grandson Logan wanting to become a fighter and Rocky trains him against his son's wishes. Call it "Balboa".
Sounds good but probably won't happen considering the rights issue and Stallone refusing to work with the producer that owns said rights to the rocky franchise.

Grew up in the 80’s…… I must’ve watched Rocky 4 200 times!!! I personally think Rocky 3 is the best of all the Rocky’s…. The character arc…. Losing it all, gaining an unlikely friend….. If they do keep it alive…. I hope that they do something with his grandson Logan…..to carry the torch…. Perhaps he trains logan…. Against Roberts wishes…. Logan wants to learn more about his past and his grandfather, ect….. I would pay to see that!

I sooooo would love to see a Rocky 7 and him have one last hurrah in the ring, I've always been a Rocky/Sly Stallone fan. Every time I catch any of the Rocky movies or sequels on TV I tune in and watch, I love when the Rocky marathons are on, I watch them all day long. I know it may be a long shot to expect a Rocky 7 movie but you never know, Sly is an awesome man and he just might make it happen.
God bless Sly. Glad through the net we get to see more of him and his real character. Have grown to live the guy this last twenty years.

Rocky movies are legendary. They send a real message in the trials and challenges of reality. Personally I enjoyed when the training began in Russia, rugged and in the elements.

Rocky Balboa was a dark and depressing movie.
Could start the 7th movie from the ending of 6 where they walk back to the dressing room and Rocky's son mentions something to his dad about carrying on the name and decides to become a boxer like his dad Rock. His dad can train him become his manager just an idea to throw out there and Rocky's son and Creed's son can I guess have a brief rivalry like both their fathers did.
Now that I am HERE for! Great idea! That would be spectacular & awesome. Especially if they could make like 3 more Rocky's to get it to like 10 which I believe would be the longest Movie Franchise in Cinema History, if I'm not mistaken!? Having the 2 huge franchises clash would be so cool, I would think it would have to be a draw right?🥊

Rocky's great-great-great-great grand nephew could one day become a prize fighter on Mars. Some of the tension could come from the fact that he's an alien and was born a natural male. I think it's a good idea. I'mma send it off to Stallone for his approval.

I have to disagree with everyone wanting more. I’ve been his biggest fan for 40 years, but we had a great ending with him going off to visit his son and I prefer to leave it at that. Like in Top Gun 2, when Ice Man tells Maverick “it’s time to let go,” I feel it’s time to let Rocky go. Stallone is well-suited to Tulsa King, so as Rocky would say “keep moving forward - that’s how winning is done!”
Rocky supposedly died in Creed 3. A prequel to Creed 3? Although in creed Rocky supposedly had health issues so how would he be sanctioned for boxing?
I don’t think he died because it’d probably be mentioned in the Creed III, and plus reports say Stallone is going to be in Creed IV under one condition.

I am a HUGE Rocky fan! Even made my wife allow me to walk into our wedding reception to “Gonna Fly Now”😂. For Rocky as a fighter, I think Rocky Balboa was an absolute masterpiece of a finale!!! I was so impressed!!
Now, the Creed series where he’s a mentor... ok.. good, legit, I can dig it... but C3 was weak imo. Why? Simple.. no Rocky.
I think the key is to continue spin offs similar to Star Wars franchise. I thought of a prequel where Rocky is a young guy who just started working for Gazzo and he and Paulie are total dock bums. It’s there where he fights in ridiculous bare knuckle smokers while he becomes a “leg breaker” for Gazzo. The story can take on a sort of low level mafia vibe showing Gazzo’s underworld and at one point Rocky saves him from a big time boss, so Gazzo feels he owes young Rocky at least a living. It’s at the docks where “Mike” (Mickey’s asst at the gym from Rocky I) discovers Rocky and talks him into going to Mickey’s gym to check it out. The movie can end with him walkin up the stairs to “Mighty Micks Gym”.
Obviously lots of details to add in throughout the story but there’s so much potential from little details of the first few movies.

Even though Sly looks great he is 76 years old. With movie magic he would be able to have Rocky pull out one more fight however even in the movie in 1976 Rocky was 30 which puts him at Sly's age of 76.
When he fought Dixon he was 60 and it shouldn't have went that far. The ride is over. This time Rocky really can't win anymore. 😭
