  • Quick video showing how to set static timing of the Compu-Fire HDE-1 Ignition module in my 1992 Harley Davidson Evolution project. Follow the progress of the project here: www.sportsterpr...
    Compu-Fire HDE-1 Ignition Kit: amzn.to/2JTJTmU
Alternate title: How many times can I drop the t-handle wrench.
Overview of the Compu-Fire HDE-1 static timing process:
    - Set engine to front cylinder top dead center (TDC)
    - Install timing rotor in proper position with tab in the keyed slot. Torque spec for the rotor screw is 25 in./lbs.
    - Install ignition module in cam chest cone
    - Rotate ignition module counter clockwise and tighten standoff screws - tight enough to hold ignition in place, but loose enough that you can rotate ignition module
    - Connect red lead from ignition module to positive battery terminal
    - Use magnet stack from kit to turn off TDC light on ignition module
    - Slowly rotate the ignition module clockwise until TDC light comes on
    - Tighten standoff screws to lock ignition into place.
    - Ignition is static timed.

I put one in my 94 dyna fxdl and it runs like a top . I haven't had a bot of trouble with it . Am running a EV27 cam and larger jets in CV carb . Bike runs excellent , instructions were easy to follow and I couldn't be happier with it . Can't explain why people are complaining when it worked just fine for me . I highly recommend it .

from the looks of the cam shaft- it almost seems like you were TDC on the exhaust stroke. Maybe it was just the way the video was edited... or maybe you 'discovered' this after. Anyway- as a suggestion; start from the beginning. Wiring the coil, explaining the singe / dual fire settings on the module. Ride safe everybody.

Do the cylinders fire 45 degrees apart? Do they use a waste spark system? Thanks for your help.

??? yes- by all means- just leave a four word comment but don't explain. The product is NOT junk. I actually replaced a Twin-Tec module with this Compu-Fire setup which I find better built. The pickup sensors on the old Twin-Tec broke off the module plate. This Compu-Fire design is much better. I owned both and I'll take the Compu-Fire .
