You make it look so easy!!! Very inspiring! I do watercolour, but am new new and really bad BUT I enjoy it and was inspired to do plain air because of you and love it!
Watching this on a lazy Sunday afternoon, not planning to get off my fundament... couple minutes later, "man I need to get up and paint". I'm still slowly _beginning_ to get past that 'I'm discouraged so I'll quit' mindset, learning to get past what I've heard described as 'the ugly stage'. Ain't easy! Your painting as it at the end of the video is excellent. Wonderfully composed.
Thanks again for another Sunday morning special. A wonderful rendering of what you were seeing. Love the Maxwell Parish tree and your great ability to simply a scene in front of you.
What a lovely composition and love the overhanging tree and the shadows. Yes think Alcatraz will benefit from a few paint strokes to sit on. Love your style and approach to your work.
Ooh, I LOVE Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. I am reminded of Hiroshige and Kasui when you mention the tree. I am a total novice at oil painting, and this was fun to watch!
I’m an ardent follower of your work and it has helped my painting a lot. What camera are you using that you can hold it in your left hand and zoom it at times? I’m impressed! I thought you had a friend doing the camera work. Your simplified approach to laying in shapes has been more instructive than years of lessons and “paint the darks first!” instructions! Thank you.
Happy Sunday Michael! Didn't use a head strap camera a few years back? I do agree that it's a little inconvenient to carry a camera in your left hand, and paint in the right. 😊
A remarkably creative composition, from urban foreground in light AND shadow, to distant view over water. We've heard of "pretty as a picture." How about "pretty as a prison?" LOL.
You dont stain anymore the whole canvas with burnt sienna. Is there a reason behind it? Do you find colours even brighter without staining the bottom layer or what's the motive?
Hi Michael, it's been a while! I've missed your paintings! Really enjoyed the tree on this one, I've got a Maxfield Parrish poster hanging in my room and I see what you're saying about the tree looking like one of his
Nice!
That shadow of the tree branches that cover the part of the asphalt looks very good 🙌🖼️
Your compositions are getting stronger and stronger
..liking the almost unfinished look & "feel".. just the right amount..if you do more in studio would love to see!

It’s all about having fun!
Eye yie yie! Getting better and better! Definitely know how to spot a great view.

yes, gotta keep going
Your biggest asset is your ability to make a great composition. I love the focal point being the prison.Clear beautiful day.fantastic idea mate
Thanks Anthony!
You nailed it again, Michael! Both paintings came out so great. I agree with putting some darker water under Alcatraz.
Thanks Kay!

I knew I liked it at the scub in! I also appreciate all the little tips that come while you’re narrating.
Excellent composition.

Amazing as always everything reads beautifully
Great result - you make it look so easy ( we know it is not) .
Thanks as always
Brilliant Painting Michael, feels as looking thru a shadow, this for the gallery for sure.
wow this one is wonderful - we do love the city scenes and know they must be so difficult
I love this , yes to the shadows on the water ….terrific composition x
Fabulous! I love how fluid your painting style is.
It took me a while to get familiar with pthalo blue. It’s a great color for seascapes.
Beautifull! The front lights of the car on the left catch my atention so much, I would low its value a bit to let the eyes head to the island.
Thanks! The headlights probably seem brighter on your screen. In real life they look good to me. Not too bright or distracting.
Wowza. It would be awesome to come to Australia and show your talent.
Love this one 👏
inspiring me to paint plein air! love the way you capture NorCal in your paintings, looks like home!

Good one Michael. Like the composition and the values of the background and foreground. You did capture that Japanese woodblock vibe!
Thanks Roger!
Good morning Michael
Good morning Mark
