I think there are official releases for Transformer toys that come close to this, namely the _Masterpiece_ line. They might not always compare to Chinese black magic, but they’re never at the bottom end of how these third party toys can turn out either. And I think the normal hasbro transformers are made with children in mind, so they sacrifice a bit of awesomeness for being cheaper to produce and sell, while having enough room for error that a child can handle it for a while without breaking, and of course they need to be safe for them to play with as well.

It's actually molding a panel with two sides. One has robot mode detail, the other has alt mode detail. And most of the transformation is just flipping those panels over.
