    Maybe similar to Perilous Plunge, but their eddy current brakes are a nice innovation, they’re a much more pleasant way to decelerate than normal friction brakes. Other manufacturers like B&M have adopted them on some rides (like Griffon).
    Their use of ejector air, overbanked turns, and generally more intense rides was also I think ahead of the curve in the late 90s/early 2000s.

    Not every Intamin turns out to be an all-star, but they never try to be boring and they’re always striving for innovative and I always love and admire them for that. While B&M’s can be more reliable, Intamin’s, even when they’re bad, often leave you going “wow, that was kind of crazy.”

    Hey, I think I have a great idea for you. Maybe you can make a series called “Ground up/From the Ground Up” where you analyze the entire plot of a park and redesign it. For example you could take this approach from a coaster enthusiast’s pov for fun. Plot out where each ride can go to build your dream park. Like planet coaster but instead you also have to include where restaurants and other attractions go. I would love to see a video on how Magic Mountain can be redesigned to be a higher quality destination.

  • @Paolo8772
    @Paolo8772 2 года назад

    Ahh, yes, Colossus at Thorpe Park. The U.K. have been more obsessed with coaster inversions more than any country in the world for about four decades!
    Thirteen at Alton Towers: The drop track of Thirteen is cool. It's drop track is also cushioned, (OBVIOUSLY, since if it wasn't cushioned it'd kill people and injure everyone else who rode it without cushioning breaks that didn't die). I love the floater airtime in the back car in the woods during the 1st prime ride time segment of the layout. Remarkably: the most fun moment of the ride for me was the segment AFTER the drop track, between emerging backwards out of the tunnel when I was always fascinated trying to figure out where the drop track had been. The natural woodsy and overgrown foliage helped to hide the foil before finally being tire-drived back to the station, completing the ride. I like Thirteen better than Spinball Whizzer, Galactica, and Rita. To me: Thirteen almost ties with Wicker Man just for comparisons of coasters within Alton Towers, beaten only by Nemesis and The Smiler.
    Steel Phantom opened May 10th, 1991 and was the 1st coaster to reach speeds of 85 MPH. It was also the 1st coaster to have a drop of or exceeding 200' with a drop somewhere between 225' and 228'; beating out Magnum XL 200 (which has a drop of 194.7') by at least over 30'.
    Superman Escape from Krypton has an official drop stat of 328.1' which is exactly 100M. It's drop 8.1' more that Fury 325, but but not as tall as Red Force, which has a drop estimated to be about 338'. Recently Velocicoaster opened, and soon the single rail duelling coaster will open in Sydney Australia. So far, Intamin is still most likely the world's most innovative roller coaster manufacturer overall.

    Great list! But If we´re getting nerdy (and that´s in our nature): 1. I´d swap the Sky Jump for the magnetic friction brake. Intamin were the first who would drop a car without attached cables, only relying on the magnetic friction brake.
    2. The cable lift had already been in use on early 20th century scenic railways. Rutschebanen at Tivoli still uses it to this day. Sure, the whole mechanism and speed is a bit different.
    3. The drop track (in addition with high-speed track switches) was first implemented by Maurer on their spinning coasters. Winjas at Phantasialand had the first drop-track that drops (although only about 1 foot) and bounces back up while the car is moving on the track. In the end Intamin has taken this idea and dropped it like it´s hot.
    Honorable mentions also to all those small innvations that are usually not marketable or spectacular. I´m thinking of all the innovations that have been made to track-design, restraints and car design.
    Their biggest innovation is their achievement to botch up almost every new water ride since 2000.

      That wasn’t their fault. They designed the trains differently but were hit over the head with regulations. I don’t know why no one seems to have thought about replacing the new trains with something that works better. They even managed to (somewhat) fix the universally reviled mind eraser at 6 flags New England, by changing the restraints to something a little less headbangy.

They've built some of my favorite rides like Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa, Intimidator 305 and Volcano: The Blast Coaster (R.I.P.) at Kings Dominion, Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm, California Screamin' at Disney's California Adventure, Superman: The Ride at Six Flags New England and Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force at Cedar Point. The reason why I prefer B&M more is because a lot of Intamin rides have had a history with a lot of downtime where as B&M rides have been a lot more reliable.
