We had great difficulties avoiding certain foods when we were starting to improve our eating habits. It was difficult going past the bananas and not buying any, similarly with bread. One item that I found helpful are. Lentil ‘cakes’ made by Kallo. They resemble rice cakes, but only contain lentils. There’s 4g of carbs in each cake and 0.1g of sugar,1.8g of protein and no salt. I probably have only one at a time and spread plenty of marmite, a moderate size piece of Cheddar cheese, and a moderate amount of goat’s butter on top. I cut it into four pieces, and it’s an excellent alternative to a sandwich. Now I don’t even notice the bread and the bananas as I walk around the Supermarket…!! They aren’t on my shopping list….
How does cold brewing effect polyphenols? Ground coffee is immersed in room temperature water for 8 to 12 hours (or more depending on the recipe) and then strained.
I've discovered yerba mate recently. Like coffee, it also has lots of polyphenols. More than coffee. The psychological effects are better too, in my experience. And the downsides and negative side effects of coffee don't happen. Dr. Andrew Huberman has also made the switch from coffee to yerba mate, as have many others. Lionel Messi and his team swear by it as a performance enhancer. They like Canarias's "sin palo" (no twigs, leaves only). I do too. Highly recommended. 🌻 (It shouldn't be consumed super hot, though. Comfortably warm is healthier than tongue-burningly hot. It can also be cold-brewed and made into an iced tea or cold drink. No special equipment is necessary. The "bombilla" and gourd are unnecessary. It can be prepared just like coffee or loose-leaf tea.)
I agree that coffee has many side effects. I find that everyone riding the coffee health wave are addicted just like the rest of us that drink coffee, but they want to give in to the addiction including Dr. Gundry. Dr. Berg finely came out and admitted he too is addicted to coffee. I am going to try the yerba mate I hope it doesn't have wheat in it, can't have wheat. Oh I just researched it and see that it is a plant in it's self, so I don't have to worry about wheat....yay. Thank you for posting the info.
Problem is coffee taste better than Yerba Mate and is like wine. Yerba Mate taste bitter. It takes time for the average person to get used to the taste and enjoy it especially without putting milk and sweetener in it. Otherwise I agree with you. Yerba Mate is called the drink of Gods in South America, and is Argentina's national drink.

Here's one (among a number of others): Start with one of your favorite ice creams (one of mine is pistachio, no sugar, low fat; virtually everyone has some favorites - just choose one). Put it in a nice little bowl, cup or mug (again, choose a favorite, to raise the level of the presentation or the aesthetics, which adds to the experience). Let it sit and soften for a bit. Then stir in some yerba mate (powdered, without stems - or "sin palo”). You can eat it right away, or let it sit and soften the yerba. I enjoy it both ways - soft or crunchy. Dynamite. Better than any coffee I've ever had.

About 20% of people are considered highly sensitive. There is a spectrum. Some have moderate sensitivity, some have low sensitivity to bitterness. There is also the psychological side. Some people react very negatively to bitterness. Others don't react in the same way, even if they are just as sensitive. Personally, when I taste "bitterness" it's no big deal. In fact, I mildly like it. I know others who outright enjoy it. So there are different preferences and experiences. For those who dislike the bitterness, there are various options. You just have to find the ones that work for you. Dave Mate ("Circle of Drink" ) has at least one video on reducing the bitterness. A pinch of salt or baking soda is one approach. The longer it steeps, and the higher the temperature, the more the bitter compounds are released. The lower the temperature and the shorter the steeping time, the lower the levels of bitter compounds released into the tea.
Another approach is to add the dry yerba mate to your favorite smoothie or smoothies, and blend it in along with the rest of the ingredients. Either the powdered form or the stem-free "sin palo" type will work well. The "con palo" will probably leave chunks. The others just smooth out and blend right in.
for everybody wit stomach acid problems: if you have lots of acid, drink robusta dominants coffee mix. if you dont have enough somatch acid, drink arabica dominant coffee mix, for more stomach acid.

light roast vs dark roast totally makes sense. darker roast is going to destroy more of those good chemicals--polyphenols and flavinoids--in the bean than a lighter roast. Besides the health benefit, lighter roasts also have a flavor benefit: You can taste more of flavors that are in the bean. Darker roast pretty much all you taste is the roast, which to many people tastes just burnt.
@@orion9k besides the taste bearing only a faint resemblance to the real thing, I would suspect instant doesn't have near the polyphenols and flavinoids that real coffee has. My suggestion would be to buy whole bean coffee from a local roaster, try a medium roast first. If you like that, you could try a light roast although some are too light for my taste. Light roasts tend to make coffee that's more acidic (sour) than I prefer.
@@pimacanyon6208 My current instant coffee is also medium roasted, also organic, I think it taste fine, a bit mild even with some cream added. But I think the sour taste comes when the water you add is too hot, that's at least what I was told.
Logical questions while watching: 1. What about green coffee, not roasted at all? More polyphenols than light roasted? Why roast at all? 2. If boiling coffee would bring more polyphenols, why go around it - what's the problem, just suggest to boil it. So, could I boil it without any side effects? Wasn't much clear. 3. Why are not the coffee grounds eaten in the end? Maximum polyphenols richness, no?

Dr grundy says that putting milk in your coffee prevents the polyphenols from being absorbed, because the fats and proteins in the milk encase the polyphenols. But I wonder: isn't the protein and fat broken down and digested as it would normally be, thus releasing the polyphenols themselves to be absorbed also. Anybody know how that works out. It tastes amazing (after few days you love it), becomes "creamy" and I have the strong feeling it helps to prolong the time until you get hungry (good for intermittent fasting). Yes, I recently started making my coffee with olive oil and coconut milk or MCT oil too. It's real good and creamy like with milk - I think it culd be described as a "coffee with milk" alternative for those who love to add milk. Interested to know about it breaking fast or not too. And I would like o hear Dr Gundry's thoughts on this too.

Dr Gundry, it's true that some people simply cannot drink coffee. I'm one of them. It does indeed mess with my cortisol it's no myth. Im ok without coffee. Im awake at 5am 7 mornings a week and I drink lemon water and walk 1 mile before I eat an avocado. It's all a choice for people. Great discipline is the key to a routine of health and wellness. 😊💙

Oh dear - pretty much when I found Dr Gundry, I found darker roast coffee beans - I grind the beans and use refillable coffee pods - even less polyphenols due to not enough exposure to the water... again, oh dear - I add a splash of cream... Coincidentally, over the past week I've been looking at interesting/lovely teapots and stove-top coffee makers to add to my store's range of products - the 90s saw my daily use of stainless steel Italian stove top coffee making, but 2000 I purchased my first commercial coffee machine and rarely use the stove top
Do coffee beans have lectins? Do I need to pressure cook my coffee? And do cocoa beans (as cocoa powder) have as potent polyphenols (not caffiene) as coffee beans?

To the contrary Dr. Gundry, I believe it is possible to make a separate batch of LIGHT coffee and then a separate batch of DARK coffee and then MIX them both together.... Therefore, creating a Polyphenol RICH coffee with a BOLDER flavor for a more enjoyable coffee for people who like a richer coffee?????.. and you had said it is ok to add Coconut Milk for a creamier taste without losing such antioxidants... So if this is all true, I will do this for a better tasting coffee with health benefits.
Dr. Gundry, what about using a French Press? I've been told using one is bad for one's health. It seems if using a French Press with boiling water and leaving the grounds in as long as you want should be beneficial.
I find I can only drink decaf coffee or I really react to the caffeine. Is this ok for my health. I drink it black and drink about 2 cups in the morning.

I cold brew organic coffee, add almond or cashew milk, Sweetleaf chocolate flavor liquid, and debittered stevia powder to sweeten because coffee just by itself tastes terrible to me. I don't know how anyone can drink it black
Also DR Gundry. GHEE. Ghee in coffee is great. It has Butyric Acid prevents colon issues and improves gut health. Butyric Acid is a by product of Butyrate which Good Gut bacteria produce by breaking down healthy fiber. So this combo is perfect. Also use high PH water to level out the acid balance.

I tried your recommendation at the end, putting espresso in coconut milk. It made me sick to my stomach. Also, I once read, that espresso is the healthier option, when drinking coffee. It was said, that because it is quickly steamed, and not soaked, there would be less harmful things. So I guess you meant, to only use organic coffee?

Beasts, injuries, and infections did not give neu5gc enough time to act in the short life span (30-40 yrs?) these people had. And if it did act, their bones do not tell us the whole horrible story. The perfect health of our primitive ancestors is a myth.
While I agree with what you say. I have to disagree about getting no benefits so 0% benefit if you use cream & sugar so I belive you still get a benefit maybe just at a lower %. My dad drank coffee & mostly instant 24/7 his whole life & just missed 97. I always look for people or applications I've known for years to compare as a comparison to what is said. We're not meant to drink anything from a cow, due to the fact that our bodies don't know how to metabolize it. This, indirectly, doesn't allow the coffee to fully metabolize, since the cream is mixed in with the coffee. Do either goat cream or one of the nondairy creamers.
A team of researchers has now shown that when the polyphenols found in coffee bind with an amino acid found in milk, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in mouse cells in vitro are enhanced. So milk is probably not bad.

Why would adding milk to coffee block the polyphenol content due to a protein but not when you pour olive oil on a steak?

MCT and Olive oil will break a fast. If you're drinking that in the morning, you're not fasting
Theoretically the threshold is 50 calories to break a fast, if that’s anything to go by

Dr Gundry, it's true that some people simply cannot drink coffee. I'm one of them. It does indeed mess with my cortisol it's no myth. Im ok without coffee. Im awake at 5am 7 mornings a week and I drink lemon water and walk 1 mile before I eat an avocado. It's all a choice for people. Great discipline is the key to a routine of health and wellness. 😊💙

Oh dear - pretty much when I found Dr Gundry, I found darker roast coffee beans - I grind the beans and use refillable coffee pods - even less polyphenols due to not enough exposure to the water... again, oh dear - I add a splash of cream... Coincidentally, over the past week I've been looking at interesting/lovely teapots and stove-top coffee makers to add to my store's range of products - the 90s saw my daily use of stainless steel Italian stove top coffee making, but 2000 I purchased my first commercial coffee machine and rarely use the stove top

They hv something called yerba matte. I believe, this can help you and has more benefits than coffee w out side affects. Just look it up.

To the contrary Dr. Gundry, I believe it is possible to make a separate batch of LIGHT coffee and then a separate batch of DARK coffee and then MIX them both together.... Therefore, creating a Polyphenol RICH coffee with a BOLDER flavor for a more enjoyable coffee for people who like a richer coffee?????.. and you had said it is ok to add Coconut Milk for a creamier taste without losing such antioxidants... So if this is all true, I will do this for a better tasting coffee with health benefits.

Dr. Gundry, what about using a French Press? I've been told using one is bad for one's health. It seems if using a French Press with boiling water and leaving the grounds in as long as you want should be beneficial.

I cold brew organic coffee, add almond or cashew milk, Sweetleaf chocolate flavor liquid, and debittered stevia powder to sweeten because coffee just by itself tastes terrible to me. I don't know how anyone can drink it black
Also DR Gundry. GHEE. Ghee in coffee is great. It has Butyric Acid prevents colon issues and improves gut health. Butyric Acid is a by product of Butyrate which Good Gut bacteria produce by breaking down healthy fiber. So this combo is perfect. Also use high PH water to level out the acid balance.

I tried your recommendation at the end, putting espresso in coconut milk. It made me sick to my stomach. Also, I once read, that espresso is the healthier option, when drinking coffee. It was said, that because it is quickly steamed, and not soaked, there would be less harmful things. So I guess you meant, to only use organic coffee?

Wow, great information! How about using the cashew milk? I make it myself with just cashews and water. This milk makes coffee taste wonderful! I do not like straight coffee and I know that if I try I will just quit coffee all together.

Or was it an issue for them, even then? Or do we not know? I have limited my animal protein and feel good, but i am curious about this point...
Beasts, injuries, and infections did not give neu5gc enough time to act in the short life span (30-40 yrs?) these people had. And if it did act, their bones do not tell us the whole horrible story. The perfect health of our primitive ancestors is a myth.

While I agree with what you say. I have to disagree about getting no benefits so 0% benefit if you use cream & sugar so I belive you still get a benefit maybe just at a lower %. My dad drank coffee & mostly instant 24/7 his whole life & just missed 97. I always look for people or applications I've known for years to compare as a comparison to what is said. Milk protein binds the polyphenols, but you didn't explain how sugar negates the benefits of polyphenols.
Why does cream cancel out the benefits? What about organic grass fed cream?
We're not meant to drink anything from a cow, due to the fact that our bodies don't know how to metabolize it. This, indirectly, doesn't allow the coffee to fully metabolize, since the cream is mixed in with the coffee. Do either goat cream or one of the nondairy creamers.
A team of researchers has now shown that when the polyphenols found in coffee bind with an amino acid found in milk, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in mouse cells in vitro are enhanced. So milk is probably not bad.
