  • Many obese influencers flaunt their unhealthy levels of weight on social media while simultaneously blaming the world around them for not being accommodating to their size. They play the victim of society, but they are the victim of their own bad habits.

I watched my mother die a slow and agonizing death from being 500+ pounds. Kidneys shut down, lungs crushing under the weight, not mobile, connected to an oxygen tank, constant pain, heart failure and many other things. Since her death I’ve lost 120 pounds and these overweight women telling people you can be healthy and obese need to go visit someone dying of obesity.

  • @MoisterCloyster

I went from 280lbs to 170lbs. I’ve never felt happier or healthier. I have never met anyone who said, “I was so much happier when I was obese.” Dropping the weight really opens your eyes. No one was oppressing me, except myself. Clothing brands didn’t make their clothes smaller to spite me. I outgrew them.
Anyone whom says that they love being overweight is lying to themselves. I know… You’re so insecure that you’re afraid the doctor will bring up your weight at your check up. But when you can’t even lay down for bed without your heart beating fast, and breathing heavy, you have a problem. The weight drains your energy and makes you lethargic. In reality, it makes you lazy. Since dropping the weight I have no issues doing chores, or going out. I have so much energy now that being sedentary drives me crazy.
It does no one any favors by encouraging a fat lifestyle. People have no idea of the happiness they could have by dropping the weight and living a healthier lifestyle. I had forgotten what it’s like to be fit and I’m ashamed I wasted so much of my best years like that.
In the end, being overweight for so long came with the unfortunate side effect of type 2 diabetes. But even with that being said, I’d happily take this disease over the disease of having my life controlled by my weight.

I’m actually kinda scared that this will continue & I might be dying or something
I felt super strong at 250, like I could beat up all the other guys
At 180 pounds it’s more like oh geez, I wouldn’t want to fight anyone at all. I feel weak now.
Sure I have better cardio but at the cost of strength.
I also don’t really feel more energetic or able. I mostly lay in bed all day & it’s a miracle if I do a chore or two.

A classic symptom in addicts is denial. For example, when you reach out to an alcoholic friend in concern about their drinking addiction, to which they reply, “I don’t have a drinking problem. I can stop whenever I want!”
Food/Eating can absolutely be an addiction and it’s so easy to develop. It’s scary how easy it is. Foods high in fat and sugar are like drugs because they replicate the feeling of happiness and euphoric emotions and can get you hooked.

I've never struggled with weight, but my mom struggled with being really overweight all her life, I remember growing up and she tried every diet and exercise. In the end, she passed away in 1999 at age 49, I came home and found her dead of a massive heart attack. I am an advocate of exercise, no soda, candy or any sweets, portion control, etc. Most people mistake thirst for hunger, so they over eat. I don't see being really overweight or obesity as sexy or to be glorified, all it will do is lead you to an early grave.

On top of that, I want to be happy, and that can’t happen if i don’t change my lifestyle and get more active. I was actually in the middle of binge-eating when I stumbled upon this video. I’m thanking God that I came across it because it made me stop and realize that I was falling back into an old habit. Pre-covid I was skiing in Italy and was thinking it was getting harder to do, and also as a scuba diver, getting older was making that harder too. I was thinking I was getting too old for my hobbies, and it would be time to give up. One day I walked passed a full-length mirror and saw my reflection. I was mortified! What the.. had I let myself become. I started a change of eating habits immediately, and over the next couple of month I dropped 15kg. The next dive season was so different! Things I struggled with before were as easy as they had been 20 years before. I'm yet to get back to the skiing (likely be going in Jan 2024) but I suspect I'll be back to my old tricks again.
It's not easy, and it's not just 'I'll go on a diet'. To do it properly, you need to change your eating patterns. Crash diets will have you crash back to your previous weight if you don't make the changes permanent.
To all those struggling with your weight, all I can offer is the following.
    1) Don't use fad diets.
    2) Don't be tempted by celebrities advertising various 'magic potions'.
    3) Be honest with yourself. Own your mistakes.
    4) When you start, you will be tempted to 'sneak' things. That's ok, that's human nature.
    5) Don't try to lose huge amounts quickly. That's dangerous on 2 counts (system shock and the fact you'll likely put it back on again as quickly)
    6) Target losing about a kilo a week. That's realistic and sustainably
    Good luck.

Thoughts like "If only I were thin, maybe they would like me more," and "I must weigh myself every. single. day. and make sure I'm less than 100 pounds," destroyed the minds of many young and impressionable girls and boys. I'm so sick of people using "radical acceptance" to mean accepting the reality of your situation and not caring about yourself enough to do anything about it. I have undergone too much therapy to see people abusing the term that is supposed to mean self love to mean disregard for your mental or physical health!!
So I came up with "rational self acceptance." You should love yourself radically, but you should NEVER accept yourself radically. Everyone has room to improve, and rational self acceptance will not only improve the way you think about depression, anxiety, obesity, and other health issues, but will help you deal with hard situations in your life.
In conclusion, you may disagree with me, but I still think that if you never do what it takes to better yourself, you will never fully love who you are.

I look at the comments and they consisted of reassurance like “you’re too good for them!” Or “maybe the app is broken, you’re gorgeous!” Things like that. Being me, I was brutally honest. Also eat in moderation so you can still eat the food you want. You don’t have to be a size 2 or 4 to be healthy. Being obese is not healthy over time.

Back in June, I found out that I'm pre-diabetic after getting bloodwork done but there is good news:after I turned 25 this year in April prior to being diagnosed, I found out I had a wellness exam the Monday after my birthday that my dad himself arranged.
I cut down on the sugary shit and started exercising again so yay!! I went to my wellness exam in May as it was right after my birthday and I was worried what they'd think of me for my weight but my nurse practicioner did bring up my weight and I was no longer afraid of talking about my situation when she brought it up. I began eating more veggies and drinking green tea and more water. I began losing weight and in June, I began to implement more exercise after finding out about my pre-diabetes diagnosis. My doctors are proud of me and my mom and dad are too for making the changes needed.
I am on Metformin currently that I have to take with food and I do go back to the doctor at the end of this month so my goal is to keep improving and reverse the pre-diabetes before it becomes type two like my dad's.

I don't usually comment but I loved what you had to say here. I found out in February that I have lymphoma. I don't have insurance and can't afford it. The Obamacare deductible that I would have is $3000 more than I made at my job in 2022. I could spend my entire yearly income on insurance deductibles that won't even cover everything and still be 3 grand in the hole.
I can't get government insurance assistance unless I'm "blind or terminal". Super.
BUT if I ate myself in to a death fat, bed bound situation they would throw medical benefits and disability at me left and right.
These people think they are sooooo oppressed while I sit here and try to figure out how to stay alive for my 2 autistic children.

Take it from an obese person, it is nothing to be celebrated. It’s something that I am actively working to reverse in my life. I’ve been curbing my eating habits and trying to be more active. I’m down 15lbs so far, which is not a whole lot, but the feeling of accomplishment that I feel when I see the number on the scale go down is the best. I’ve still got a long way to go, but knowing you are finally taking care of yourself is the best feeling and gives you so much more confidence.

Yeah I was beautiful but I was sick. I ached all the time, I hated my body, It was my self created prison. Now I can't get behind that "just embrace yourself as you are" cult. Like I can run into something and it won’t hurt too bad cause I’m cushioned, and if I fall it’s alright I’m cushioned… but no she went for “other people can’t tell you’re bloated” which is stupid because when I’m bloated I don’t really care how others feel, I care about the fact that I’m uncomfortable. lol I was really disappointed

I'm someone who's now in the obese category since Covid and I couldn't agree more. If I look back at the last 3 years, yes my sports injury played a part but my weight gain was largely down to what I consumed. No one forced me to buy snacks from the store. I walked those steps to the store, i took out my card and paid for them, knowing full well my exercise routine had completely changed. Now I've started my journey to lose weight and get back in shape but I've met so many people in denial about their health. 'Oh you should embrace yourself and love yourself' Yes I do still love myself but I'm not going to embrace being out of breath while climbing the stairs at work. I know I felt so much better before, both physically and mentally. These people need to stop normalising being fat unhealthy, and blaming others for their actions.
Edit: wow, I didn't notice there was so many supportive messages. Thanks all, this has given me additional motivation to work out and eat right 👍

Here's my smoothie recipe and I'm a super picky eater. I used to drink this in the morning for breakfast when I was trying to lose weight.
      So this recipe called for a whole mango and a whole banana, but smoothies typically have wayyy too much fruit so this is my version;
4 cups spinach or kale (personal choice)
      1 cup milk
1 cup of egg whites (you can buy them in a carton, this is for protein. Sounds gross but you really can't taste it)
1/2 a frozen banana or a fresh one up to you
And ice for texture again up to you. Anyway once I had all that blended it usually took me a while to finish so helps get the greens in for the day. Hope this helps. Happy journey!

@@latenightladybug4505 Hello! I'm here to help and offer some generally universal advice. First and foremost, one of the most important things you can do to lose weight in a good way is to eat the correct kinds of food, and get plenty of exercise! However, something else that can help lose weight is to get plenty of sleep, a good, consistent sleep schedule is a huge help! But, back to dietary choices, the food itself is a good chunk of the factor, but the portions also play a huge role. Plenty of good protein, fiber, and healthy grains are the best start; start meal prepping! Make a balance of red meat one day, white meat the next, and fish some days with either vegetables or fruit; chicken is super cheap and easy to cook! Keep it simple, pan sear the chicken in a light amount of butter, not too much, salt and pepper (garlic if you like), then grill either some asparagus or yellow squash and zucchini! For snacks, peanut butter or avocado and apples are a good start, or even some honey wheat bread with peanut butter! Avoid too much white bread! You'd be surprised to know how much sugar is in an apple, but they are an example of good sugars, processed sugars like what you find in candy are totally different from natural sugars found in apples! Apples are also a fantastic source of fiber that promote good gut health and can fill ya up quick; a really good way to get your heart pumping is to just go for a quick walk in your neighborhood for 30 minutes a day! Any kind of movement or activity that gets the heart pumping already helps a ton, eventually, add some small weights to the mix to carry with you! In short, keep a balanced diet of proteins, fiber, and healthy carbs; exercise plenty every day, get good sleep! Oh! One other thing, avoid sugary drinks, sweet tea, sodas and whatnot are terrible for your health, try sticking to water primarily, and maybe some orange juice every now and again! For some more detailed advice, seek a nutritionist, but I hope this can help you get a good start! Good luck on your journey!

@@latenightladybug4505 I can give you some advice you may find helpfull, I was never overweight, my problem is trying to gain, but some principles are the same as to becoming more healthy, and gaining more muscle mass- Wich for women is also a good thing, more muscle mass = more passive calorie burning.
      1. Try to get plenty of sleep, about 8 hours will do, it's hard sometimes I know, but aim for 8 hours or atleast 7:30.
      2. When you wake up, try push ups, Not a must, but it's a good start of the day and a great excercise, you can start off easy by putting your knees on the ground and crossing your legs, or you can even lean against a wall, or on your couch/ a chair and push up from there to start building up.
      3. Drink 2 glasses of water after you wake up(you can take these after the pushups if you do those), this kickstarts your digestive system after sleep.
      4. Drink plenty of water over your day, like 2 liters at the minimum, more if you have an active day and you sweat allot, water is the best way to flush toxins and excess out off your body, not saying you need to drink only water, but it will benefit you if you can take yourself off softdrinks etc(eventually)
      5. If you can, take the bike or walk to work etc, take the stairs if possible over the elevator if your floor is not that high up or you're not carrying to much.
      6. Find a sport you like, this includes even dancing lessons, everything that you find fun and has you move allot, you may also want to look at fitness/weightlifting, even for women this is a good thing, some women fear that they're going to turn into the hulk after lifting 'to much weight' - that'll literally never happen unless you actively want to become a body builder.
      7. You can even just go for walks with friends, those too are very healthy, if you think jogging might be beter for burning fat tissue, don't worry, walking at a faster pace will do that job just fine and is even healthier for your joints.
      8. Try to eat some good fats every so often, like avocado, nuts or have salmon, these fats can help break down excessive fat tissue over time and are good for your cholesterol.
9.If you're afraid to go to public places like gyms or pools....don't be...everyone is there to beter themselves, and there are jerks everywhere, regardless if you're overweight or not, but if it's still to much, there's some really good apps on your phone you can use, using only your bodyweight or some lower weight dumbells already gets you a long way to get you started.
10.I use an app called "Food", it allows you to track your macros(Proteins,Carbs,Fats) and calories over a day, I find this really helpfull, even though it is a bit of a drag to get started, but if you get through the start you'll find it easier to keep up, since it saves your foods(has a barcode scanner) and you can put in your own meals or food that isn't in there using the labels and putting in the nutrient scores. I can't stress enough how helpfull this app can be for people trying to gain or lose weight.
      11. Dedication and discipline, You aren't going to see results if you don't keep on it, your body needs time to get used to and adjust to excerises and weights you use, don't be discouraged and keep on going for it, sometimes you'll have bad days, don't worry we all have those, but the important thing is to keep going, the best thing for people just starting is that they'll 'see' results very fast, over time it goes slower, but do not be discouraged.
11.2 It might be a good idea to take a picture of yourself every few months, or half a year, just so you can actually see how far you've come.
      Just a few point sum up for losing weight;
You need a calorie deficit- wich means you need to burn more than you take in, excercise and the food app can help you with that.
You need to get plenty of sleep, aim for 8 hours.
You need to drink plenty of water, around 2 liters a day for most people, more if you sweat allot - Try buying a water bottle or "shaker" that shows the amount of water it can contain, so you can keep beter track of how much you drink each day.
You need routine of excercise, this goes for sports, aswell as just walks, the first step is always the hardest, we've all been there, but stick to it and you'll be rewarded, anything is doing beter than nothing at all and sitting around at home feeling bad about yourself, take matters into your own hands.
I hope atleast some of it was helpfull, wishing you well.

I don’t have any health issues that prevent me from losing weight my simply moving more and eating less. The key I think is to think about what you can add and less what you should take away. Protein is always first lean meats are better of course. Then add as much veggies as you want. Little carbs. Don’t avoid them just try to fill up your plate with mostly meat and veggies and a bit of carbs. Less sugar none is better but if you want something sweet try to find alternatives. Sugar free options are great but really it takes time to adjust and for you to adjust to eating better. Physicslly mentally. Losing only 15lbs over the last 2months has revitalized me(i am 37yrs old). That said I was a personal trainer and am now an LPN(licensed nurse) BMI can be rather inaccurate BUT ironically it gets progressively inaccurate the healthier and more lean mass you gain. So from strictly a fat gaining perspecrive it is rather accurate.

@@Itsjustmolly_ I am currently on a weightloss journey. Two things I've found on the way: "do not rush the process" and "consistency is the key".
My exercise routine started really simple, but I did it regularly, slooowly adding difficulty as I progressed. First results happened closer to the third month of workout, and going through the first and the second ones was mentally difficult, but totally worth it.
Second useful thing is counting calories and proteins/carbs/fats. I've started with cutting out all the excess sugar and adding a lot of vegetables into my ration. Making a schedule for "food intake time" (sorry, can't think of a better way to put it into words) is also really helpful. I eat five times a day, but with smaller portions, and every time a want to eat outside the schedule, I am asking myself - am I really hungry? And if answer is "yes", I eat an apple or two (or some cabbage, broccoli or anything rich in fiber but low on calories).
P.S. Someone once told me that the most healthy path for weightloss is when you spend the same amount of time losing weight that you've been gaining it. I lost control over my body during covid times, and for two years everything turned into a mess. So now I am aiming to fix it over the span of two years. Ten months behind, and I am absolutely happy with all the little and big transformations happened along this time.

i think the best journey to happiness and health is accepting your body where it is at to get your mental health and self worth to a point that you are able to live happily and healthily, which then often results in your body getting healthier as a result of changes in your life! it’s so so hard sometimes especially with how complex things like eating disorders can be. i’m currently what i would call between mid size and plus size, but in society i’m lucky because i carry it as an hourglass shape which is more widely accepted. even so, i’m not happy with myself and more so my mental relationship with food. i struggle with eating disorders, but i am actively in therapy and dietician therapies to make this change for myself, not just to my body but to my relationship with food :)

Honestly as someone on a weight loss journey (down 100lbs now!) I've actually found that it's much cheaper to eat healthier. And by that I mostly mean, no convince meals or fast food. Like I was spending at least $10 a day eating out at fast food so at least $70 a week, sometimes more. That didn't include my bad soda habit, snacks, going out to a sit down restaurant, more snacks for home, tv dinners, ordering pizza, etc. Now I spend $75 for 2 weeks worth of food and that includes eating out at a steak house or a nice Mexican or hibachi place once a week. You think fast food is the cheap option ,and it is in the moment, but in the long run or over the course of a week or two it's not cheaper at all unless maybe your eating off the dollar menu and only getting one thing. In fact the soup I make costs me about $20 to make (and I use higher quality steak and youkon gold potatos, you can use ground bef in this recipe too) and that makes me 8 meals worth of food. Plus I can throw it all in the crock pot before work and it's done when I get home. So it's healthier, saves time, and is only about $2.5 a meal and I feel full and satisfied when I'm done. I used to think eating healthier was really expensive too but I'm saving so much now that I was able to pay for my mom and I to go to Universal studios and she doesn't have to pay a cent for anything. We've never gone on a real vacation before. At most we've driven a town over for the zoo as our version of a vacation. So it is possible. Yeah sometimes I miss just going and grabbing some raising canes or a mcflurry or whatever but honestly I feel so much better now that I don't think those things are worth going back to where I was.

I’m unfortunately in the obese category, it’s so weird to say. I was fit and thin my whole life until 9 years ago. I’ve been healing my trauma and feel so good on all emotional fronts but now I have this weight to deal with. I’m working on it, it’s super hard but I’m determined. I have 3 kids and a amazing husband who is so supportive and kind and loves me at any shape (which is so hard to wrap my mind around, we got together at 19), but it’s not a badge I am trying to wear with honor. All this “oh I have internalized fat phobia” crap… No, that’s your soul screaming at you that you are out of balance and you need to make changes. And instead of taking responsibility for yourself you’re blaming banks and the prison system? Where the f-- am I? We ignore health, science and statistics because we want people to feel better about themselves? How is that helpful in the long run? I don’t understand this place. I want to be around for my grandchildren and take care of my parents when they are so old they can’t care for themselves anymore, I want to grow old with my husband. I want my daughters to look at me with pride and I want to run around and play with them… None of that will happen if I keep telling myself that I’m “perfect the way I am”. We should always be striving to be better, I can’t understand how people are fighting to stay the same…

Weight has been a problem for me, for eight years now. I’m only 16 years old. When I was younger I was really sick, so I gained weight quickly. It was when I turned 9 I realized how over weight I was, at that time I was 140 pounds. I really wanted to lose weight, but I didn’t know how, on top of that my mom was really relaxed about sugar, so I continued to gain weight. When I was 11, had reached 180 pounds, my mom had a heart attack at 40. That heart attack was eye opening for her, we started changing the way our family ate, the first thing we did was cut out most of our sugar( nowadays we cut out all sugar ), we also cut out as much seed oil as possible. She ended up cutting out all of her medications: Statins, Blood pressure meds, etc… , and she actually got her blood pressure under control. The next thing was losing weight, we started fasting, before it was so popular . But after all that, there still have bee times when we slipped. The pandemic ruined a lot of things, we fell into old habits again, gained weight back, what really hurt us was moving. In 2022 we moved halfway across the country to a red state, nothing like having your life turned upside down to ruin your diet. Before we moved in January, I was 170 pounds, by December I reached 195 pounds, but new year new goals so now I’m really working hard on my weight. What I hate about the body positivity movement is, they put you down for losing weight, and trying to be healthier. The thing is, I haven’t felt comfortable in my body in a long time. Here’s what it’s really like to be fat: you get sweaty in weird spots, you get winded quickly, low energy you’re always hungry or craving something, you’re skin folds over itself, jeans pinch a lot when you sit straight, bloating hurts like hell, and you can’t fit into nice clothes. So pretty much being fat sucks, that’s just from my experience. The body positive movement should encourage weight loss like it used too, it shouldn’t encourage weight gain, it sucks to be fat.

Focus on your studies, and maybe go grocery shopping with your mom so she can pick healthier choices. My mom insisted that I was fat even though I was never actually obese... when I was a kid I was a tad chubby, then I became obsessed with running at the age of 12. My mom never stopped poking or prodding at me, and with all of the models and media telling me what was beautiful, I developed an extreme eating disorder. Running alone kept me thin, but restricting food made me sickly. And the whole time I still thought I was fat. I'm 30 now and beat my disorder, I just wish someone told me when I was younger that I wasn't a whale.

8 years ago I suffered my second miscarriage, and spiraled into a sever depression. I gain almost 100lbs. The weight gain made things feel like crap. Prior to my depression, I was fit most of my life. I missed feeling energetic and full of energy. I hated feeling winded from a set of stairs or feeling sick from a particularly hardy meal. I also was heckled in a gym (by a group of women) and didn’t wanna return. It wasn’t till I got to a point of just being tired of being tired. I started working out at home and eating better. I’m down about half the weight I gained, and I am hoping to be gone with the rest by the end of the year. I love not feeling sore or tired all the time and I love that I can keep up with my 5 year old son. A co-worker once told me that getting fit and loosing weight was me bowing down to fat-phobia. Then I am glad I did, because that “internalized fat-phobia” is what got me a better quality of life.

I can see part of the doctor & healthcare point of view because it is true- I am always told I’m “just sick because I’m fat” when I was underweight for my height during most of my health battle. It is discouraging hearing that I “just need to lose weight” because I have been trying for months to do so and have gained 40lbs. I do hate when people with no history of health problems blame the healthcare system for their weight though and “oppressing” them.
