the actors really did a great job knowing its a fantasy comedey but they dont let the audience know it except for few instasces with the characters doing something comical it reminds me of mel brooks style of comedy
It really was perfectly cast. The script was good but not so perfect that it couldn’t be ruined by the wrong picks. But no they got the perfect person for every role.
I had seen this film at least 30 times on VHS before DVD even came out!😂 It's easily one of the top five most perfect movies ever made. There's not one false frame or bad scene and there's literally not one actor in the film that could have been replaced with a better fit. I had tears in my eyes just watching this video so visceral are the memories it conjures. My fervent hope is that it's never remade. As Elwes said, there's a shortage of perfect films in the world, it would be a shame to damage this one.
There are only a few movies I can see over and over again and not get bored. Casablanca.......Star Wars-A new hope ...Raiders of the Lost Ark.....and of course The Princess Bride.
This is old but popped up on my feed 15 years later. I love how Rob and Clint Eastwood put enormous thought into casting and then let the actors go for it with their characters. They're humble about their role as director. Actors who work with Eastwood say he barely seems to be directing - but obviously he does it with genius, as does Rob, although idk what Rob's style is on set. The one thing I did hear about is that before Billy Crystal's scene Rob said to him "Forget the lines". Genius improv ensued. The scene took many takes because the actors and crew couldn't keep from laughing out loud. Rob even had to leave the set! Too bad they didn't cover the casting of Crystal here.
This casting is so perfect. Especially Buttercup, Reiner found a tall, elegant, striking girl who you still believed was a real person. Her acting was also extremely good. You actually believe that she became this cold person who was intending to kill herself.
The script doesn't get enough credit. Written by one of the best screenplay writers of his day, William Goldman, he adapted the screenplay from his novel, The Princess Bride.
I was arrested at William Goldman's country club (Northmoor) when I was 12. It bordered Edgewood Junior High School where I went, and the golf course was right there across the bushes, no fence. No one was on the green, so me and two friends gathered some golf balls and had fun throwing them back onto the course while waiting for the bus to take us home. Tough Guy speeds up in a golf cart. We didn't run because... why? He forced us into some room in the country club and kept threatening us with the jagged edge of a broken golf club while we waited for the police. He played Tough Guy, pacing back and forth and trying to intimidate us with the golf club, but it was obvious that he was a coital bundle of sticks. I think we pissed him off by ignoring him until the police came, wrote down some info, and then let us go. Never saw him again.
I wonder why Carey Elwes didn't have a bigger career.......he was better looking than Brad Pitt....but maybe this movie type casted him.....I remember seeing him in "Glory" and all I could think of was "as you wish"......
The movie after this I remember seeing him in, Robin Hood Men in Tights so maybe he was typecast. Then a small part in Liar Liar , then Saw......😂😲 very different role
I’m guessing Hollywierd didn’t know what to do with someone that’s both very beautiful and very funny. It’s also a shame ‘cause he was surprisingly so good in dramatic lead roles like in Lady Jane, which was a British film that came before PB
People love this movie so much, nothing they did could come close. The Rock would be Fezick, Chris Pratt would be Westley, Kevin Hart would be Vincinni, John Legizamou or Vin Diesel would be Montoya, Morgan Freeman would be the grandfather, Sydney Sweeney would be Buttercup
The rock /Andre the Giant Kevin Hart/Wally S. Ryan Reynolds /Cary Elwes Kiera Knightly/Robin Wright John Legizamou or Oscar Isaac/ MP (Montoya) Morgan Freeman /Peter F. The movie would be universally hated by fans of the orginal, it'd probably make money so they'd make 2 more. Like fast and the furious or Jumanji series 😖😖😖😖

One of the best movies ever made 😊the best cast 😊
How touching knowing that the author wrote Fezzik's
with Andre in mind
This movie was a comedy, romance, & action films - very iconic!
The casting was a huge part of what made this movie for me. When I read the book, it's these people I see in my mind :)
It really was perfectly cast. The script was good but not so perfect that it couldn’t be ruined by the wrong picks. But no they got the perfect person for every role.
Same!
😂 "I forgot my lines" 😅 I could not stop laughing. This is such a great movie with an incredible cast. 🍿 A favorite no question ❤
My "best movies of all time" list is pretty short - and this one is at the top. There is not even a close second. 😎

So, so true!
I reckon I’ve also watched it about 15 times.

Only so many perfect kisses, only so many perfect films
Perfect casting! Just perfect!

Casablanca.......Star Wars-A new hope ...Raiders of the Lost Ark.....and of course
The Princess Bride.
Could I add Blazing Saddles?
While everyone else was pretending to be Superman or Batman as a kid, I pretended to be Westley. He was an amazing superhero to me.
My son LOVED IT as a child and we still quote the lines to each other.
this is probably my favorite movie of all time. you have no idea how happy these behind the scenes are making me.

I forgotten my line. Lmao!
I forgot OR I have forgotten
I recall being apprehensive that The Princess Bride couldn’t be made into a movie. I was so pleasantly surprised.
This casting is so perfect. Especially Buttercup, Reiner found a tall, elegant, striking girl who you still believed was a real person. Her acting was also extremely good. You actually believe that she became this cold person who was intending to kill herself.
Thank you for the memories
Cary was so handsome...i was in love with westley x
Glad the casting turned out to be perfect and so did the movie.
One of the most quotable movies ever made. Perhaps even surpassing The Holy Grail - which is inconceivable! ;-)
"Bow to her! Bow to the Queen of Slime! The Queen of Putrescence!
Amen. The "boo...boo' character's performance was Oscar worthy
+radconserv68 "Bow to her! Bow to the Queen of Slime! The Queen of Putrescence!
You missed the filth part.
That part always scared me as a kid 😂
Boo book boooo😂😂😂
Shame the Albino didn't live to join the interview. Rest in peace Mel Smith. You are sorely missed.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
easily one of the best movies ever made
10 years later, still true.
There is not even a close 2nd. There are a lot of great movies, but this is by far the best. 😎
The script doesn't get enough credit. Written by one of the best screenplay writers of his day, William Goldman, he adapted the screenplay from his novel, The Princess Bride.
Beautiful athletic and f unny, words that have never been said to describe me😂😂😢😢😉

Yeah the cast was perfect for a classic movie.
I definitely want to be Inigo Montoya
And there’s no remake. Why couldn’t they make one?

No remake! It messes it all up!
I’ve never seen Princess Bride.
Is it a spoof movie
It’s in its own category.
Yup, perfect casting.
Booo book boooo!😂😂😂
Hippopotamic land mass lol 3:20
Whenever my dog lays on top of me I call him that
Maybe it's because my hearing isn't what it used to be anymore, but i've always heard him say Hippopotamic lion bass..." lol. uuggggh.
but....they are so different now!!!
Today casting would be strictly by wokeness, talent would be a distant second.

None of the actors really seemed right in this crappy movie.
Well, I guess your taste doesn’t match. What do you consider a good movie?
I smell troll poo…
