    Thanks to our less than peaceful times in the last couple decades, I now realize they were too bored at times during the Edo Period...
    That, or we've stressed points we found in what written documentation exists, more than they ever/usually did at the time.
    Or I'm underestimated how detailed and ceremonial certain Japanese upper classes will make any given thing, especially when so isolated for so long.
