Crikey, I just realised that I've come a full circle! When I first commented on this video five months ago, I didn't have a single Convoy torch and now I am a happy owner of an (Audi) S8 with the CSLPM1.F1 emitter. 🔦☺❤ This is the most definitive review of the Convoy S8 that I've watched so far! 👍👍
I wonder what can beat the CSLPM1.F1.... in this host!? Glad I could help you decide! Convoy is pretty much all you need as a flashlight obsessed person
For edc, I use the fenix pd36r pro and fenix tk05r, but after watching this video, I bought myself a Convoy and separately bought a nitecore 1836r (3600 mah) battery. Now the convoy is my main edc flashlight, displacing the other more expensive flashlights from my pocket. A great flashlight combined with a large battery is just great.
Interesting light, great review. At 1:17 you were comparing Convoy flash light sizes, I'm pretty new to Convoy flashlights so I'm trying to understand the differences between the models. The three on the right of your comparison are the S8, S2 Plus, S6. Those three are very similar in size, so what are the differences? S8 has a more tactical look with the shape of the bezel but otherwise the S2 Plus and S6 look very similar, can you explain why a customer would purchase one or the other of them? I'm guessing the "S" series of flashlghts mean's "small" and the "M" series means "medium" size? I'm interested to see if the M series with the CSLNM1.F1 LED can sustain 100% for longer, then the S S8 can, I'll browse through your other reviews 👍
The S6/8 have identical performance. Same reflector and driver. But S6 has a different design with no logo or clip included. S8 is designed to look tactical. The M1 with the same NM1.F1 can sustain 100% for 3 minutes. Larger bezel and body so better heatsinking. And yes you got the nomenclature correct for SML series.
@@DarrenYeoYT thanks for the info, I think I'll grab an M1. S8 is still very tempting for it's compact size though. Can never have enough flashlights :)
@@GENZA25 Thanks for the info. It's great that Convoy offers so much choice with different flashlights and LED types but it can be a bit overwhelming to decide which one to buy.
No need for a high drain 18650 as this one only draws 5A, but one of the Samsung cells are a good investment. Maybe the 30Q, as you can use this in other high drain lights too.
I need something with long throw, to see cray pots at night, without destroying my night vision. What colour would be the best light for seeing these (The floats, which are usually white or sometimes fluro red/orange polystyrene)? Would green be a good choice? Would a red float be visible in a red light?
Green would be most efficient and effective in terms of visibility - you'll get way more range from an NM1 or PM1.F1 (green emitters). however, red will be best at preserving your night vision and if you get a light with a large enough reflector, you should be able to get a few hundred metres of throw with a red LED. Think of a host like the Convoy C8+ or L21B.
F1 produces green light, TG produces white light. F1 also produces up to twice the amount of light as the white. So if you're looking for a crazy long range light, get the F1. But I know some people don't like the green.
@@DarrenYeoYT Don't buy the green Getian GT version, unless you intend to use it solely for photography with creative lighting. I'm already kicking myself for purchasing the M21H with this emitter without watching someone's review of this torch. The M21H is a bloody awesome floody torch with TIR optics, but the monochromatic green from the Getian GT LED is not really useful for night time walks or illuminating indoors. You can't see red or yellow tones as they appear dark or near black. At least the Osram F1 green emitters still show red and yellows in pitch black darkness. 😐 Mate, do you reckon it's possible to swap the M21H's LED with an SFT40 or XHP50D? 🤔🔦
This Convoy hands down, unless you need onboard charging. Better performance. You can even chuck in an 8A driver if you really wanted but it'll run up unbearably hot after a minute.
Hey Darren, great review! How about a comparison between the M1 CSLNM1.F1 and the S8 CSLNM1.F1? Do you find the extra throw worth the extra bulk for EDC? Or do you find yourself grabbing the S8 more?
Thanks John. I have separate reviews of both lights in the same beamshot location already :) look, if you can deal with the larger bezel, get the M1 version. The throw difference is very noticeable. I tend to carry around the S8 mainly though.. barely know it's there.
@Darren Yeo So which torch throws further This S8 CSLNM1.F1 or the Convoy M1 KP CSLNM1.F1 green light ?? Im a Collection freak also - Over 300+ Flashlights + headlamps/ work lights/ area lights/ camp lights. BUT i haven't got a Green LED Light yet... 🔦🔦🔦
Thanks for that pick up 😅 I made another comparison with the S8 with PM1.F1, and also releasing another video with the M1 vs M21B and M2. Basically there is about 300m throw difference between the S8 and M1 with the same NM1.F1 led. I'll try get out there next time and film a comparison.
Comparing to other reviewers, I get similar measurements to them. The 600m is also based on 0.25 lux at the furtherest point of measurement if I recall correctly. Our eyes are not that sensitive to light so the actual perceived throw is always less.
@@DarrenYeoYT I mean, I'd love to believe it. But I don't think it will light up half a mile. Maybe can be seen from pretty far. But anyway, I am actually considering buying this. Very confused about the options. I am a Sofirn/Wurkkos guy. The If22a throws pretty far. I'd love to compare. But don't know what options to go with.
i would love to have a green LED flashlight like this one i might have to look into this and buy one so thanks for your review ill see you in the next one
yeah buddy most people cant see passed 200 meters so unless you use a scope with this light its not worth buying in my opinion even tho im sure this light is great but im sure most people cant see what there looking at after 200 meters or more so yeah put a scope in this light then its worth it lol

Why can’t you find the Convoy S8 for sale anywhere?
The convoy shop is closed until Feb, maybe just put a reminder in calender
So you prefer the 12 groups to the 4 modes? I'm new to flashlights so I don't understand much.
Yes because you can just choose a 4 mode grouping if you want anyway, and there's another 11 modes for times you need a different UI.
This the 5A buck driver? Seems the 5A linear doesn't drop down quite as quick.
Hmm good question, I'm pretty sure this is the linear as I didn't specify to have a buck driver put in.
If you had to pick between this exact setup light or a Wurkkos FC12 what would you pick?
This Convoy hands down, unless you need onboard charging. Better performance. You can even chuck in an 8A driver if you really wanted but it'll run up unbearably hot after a minute.
hey man! ignoring the size, do you prefer this light or the Sofirn If22a?
This one, there's more emitter options and it has a better driver too.
@@DarrenYeoYT yeah, the driver makes the output more linear, witch of them you believe that throw further?
With SFT40.. that IF22A will throw further. But if get the S8 with the NM1.F1 or PM1.F1, it will throw further. @@lucasprates1
This one is crazy good, really beats all those luxury brands for the fraction of the cost.
Exactly, that's what I love about Convoy
Hi mate, distance of farest tree? 8:48
To the furtherest tree in the centre is around 150m according to the map there. But the trees to the right back area are probably 200m.
Good review nice flashlight a lil pocket rocket for hunting would be ideal 💯👍
@@DarrenYeoYTthx man, you know how much candle this flashlight with this emitter has indicatively??
@@PaoloMarchi533 At 4:55 you can see for yourself the number of candela at each level.
What is the battery runtime of this? Maybe you could use a 18350 body and have the ultimate small self defense light?
Maybe a few hours but it does step down from 100% to less than 50%. I don't mind the 18650 form factor but yep you could easily run this on an 18350!
Why a 18350 body? Its to small for a selfdefense light unless you have very small hands.
