You guys say ya know too much Ya know 🙄
That poor shifter...constantly getting smacked just-cause
The old truck is better in all aspects besides the looks....but you do get suspension options now which is cool.
@@fortheloveofnoise Sure it is. Which aspect are those?
@@fortheloveofnoise Answer????????
The tailgate feature is completely unnecessary. Stuff like that is part of the reason vehicles are so ridiculously priced now.
Something tells me the power tailgate latching is optional and is not on the baser models.
@@flounder Amen! But seat belts are ACTUALLY necessary haha
Is actually good that they are doing something auto again, in 4runner 4th gen you could barely put the tailgate close and i would do it automatically, 5th gen in other end do not have that and it feels cheap
Agreed, take the 'features' I don't want because they break after a few years. More things to replace and the cost of the vehicle goes up. Give me reliable engine, Android auto and decent suspension. I don't need Pano roofs, folding mirrors, parking sensors, power tailgates, even power seats.
Then don’t buy the electric tailgate lol. It’s a TOYOTA not a ford. You can get it without it.
So these two "Car Guys" couldn't figure out how to bring the backrest down flat, couldn't show the underseat storage, couldn't get the power back window figured out and this is on the outgoing model. Way to go guys!
Yes, and my 17 TRD Sport has the power back window (first year for being powered). The 24 power back window is smaller, but that is because they added defrosting elements, so ... another worthwhile improvement.
As an owner of a 21 taco, this review sucked! Just a rah rah that the 24 is better. They act like if it isn't that you're in a 1985 model.
The interior design of the old cab was not horrific IMO. Outside of seating position downfall. That being said, the new cab look is really grand. Although, I am not a fan of the huge infotainment screen. I like integrated, not stuck on.
The only thing I don't like is the hybrid version losing all the underseat storage in the rear - storage space counts for a lot in a midsizer.
Big touch screens are nice... that is, untill you try to work them with dirty hands or with gloves on.
I hate the huge "TOYOTA" emblazoned on the dash. I know what truck I'm in, I don't need a gigantic reminder on the dash.
i dont like the interior of the 24 at all. Reminds me of a Lego interior for some reason.
@@hochhaul You hate things that look cool---gotcha.
Would love to see the TRD off-road, it’s probably the one I can afford.
It was my favorite of the previous lineup half because it was the cheapest you could get with rear locker, wonder of that will be the case again
Really? I always thought the Off Road had the higher MSRP than the Sport. If I can’t get the TRD PRO the Off Road is my second choice
@@EpticityOG almost positive the sport doesn’t have a rear locker, the sport is more refined for on road comfort
@@alexhainey4693 the sport also has lower end shocks. If you don’t replace them the off-road has better tuning for off-road. But everything is better in the aftermarket
@devildog5354Semper Fi Brother
Brought a 2023 TRD Off road four months ago, I don’t regret it, really happy with it 🚙
Dam bad timing.
@@superkill30 Great timing actually. Buying the very last year of a generation is much wiser than buy the first year of any new generation vehicle
Just picked up a 2023 as well. Very happy with it.
Same just picked up the 2023 as well and I love it. Also the V6 is a big reason why.
Here I am with my 21 off road manual.
I just want to point out the fact that in my '21 Tacoma TRD Sport, the rear seat headrests fold down just like the new one, it has push button start, and there's some under seat storage in the back seat as well that I noticed goes away with the hybrid version of the new one. Not happy about that, but overall seems like a much better truck considering the new safety features being standard across all models, and the fact that it's a 4 cylinder with an 8 speed I assume makes it more fuel efficient. I get average 21mpg with the old one.
A lot less reliable in the long run, and a turbo 4 cylinder hybrid sounds ridiculously expensive to work on
@@theconmantube3449The hybrid in certain cases if it Atkinson. The turbo is no different than naturally aspirated.
Why would you want a less powerful engine? Now everyone is going to beat you on the highway when you need to accelerate.
@@nicksmart7094 The new 4cyl has a lot more torque and that is what gets you moving.
May 17 Dodge Cummins gets out
Something tells me this truck is going to be way more expensive than the last.
Love the new truck. Just wish they would have kept the OG emergency brake instead of the electric emergency brake
The new truck is a downgrade in every area except the looks.
@@fortheloveofnoise It isn't. You just jealous.
Nah I do agree I do think 3rd gen will be more reliable being more basic. Bit too much happening on this 4th gen but i guess its comparable to other pickups now.
Noooooooooo. Electric parking brake....what a pain
After screenshotting the '23 and '24 rear seat comparisons, he definitely had the front seat reclined by a good 2-3" at the headrest in the '23. Thats how he was able to fit back there so well in the '24!
I still prefer the old model with a steel hood and the V6 engine, although they finally went to rear disc brakes.
The newer one if far better in every way
@@bobdylan6773No it's absolutely is not better in any way shape or form
Without V6, I might as well go get a corolla
@@MrUgobright I agree
@@MrUgobright Silly comment. Do you not realize that the new iForce max engine going in the new Taco has much more power and a HUGE increase in torque?? Like almost DOUBLE the torque. On top of that, the new drivetrain will be way more efficient. The old V6 was certainly reliable, but it was a bit of a dog and inefficient. I was never interested in a Tacoma until the 2024, because the old one is just too small and too slow.
Kind of crazy the Tacoma is already in it’s 4th generation. Still feel like my 2nd gen was new just a few years ago. New ones look pretty good. Hope they last as long as the previous generations do
Theres no way the new trucks will last as long as the older ones.
@@willrobinson9575 Yeah…to be honest I’m pretty skeptical. My current truck’s value is already inflated enough, this new generation might just make it even more sought after.
@@77ford20 As long as it not the made in Mexico model.
@@chrisx5127 Unfortunately it is. To be honest I haven't had any issues with it. Do I wish it was the one made in California? Yes. However, it was built right on the other side of the US border, which is at least better than being built hundreds of miles away. I wouldn't buy a new Tacoma, I honestly think that the quality of new vehicles, in general, is decreasing, even Toyotas.
@@77ford20 Yes, but for me I have no choice. I have no vehicle (for 2 years now), and need it for work and fun. Maybe a BRZ since the new WRX is ugly. In either case, it has to be manual.
Kind of concerned about that central grab handle. It flexed and creaked a lot when Andre gave it just a little shake. I'm hoping it's just because its still pre production, but as is, it doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence.
I don't see it improving between now and release.
I thought the same thing. Good catch! Hopefully that handle will be reinforced a LOT
I hope it's removable, kinda ugly in my opinion
@@zr2ee1 Agreed. It looks out of place...
I don't know why Toyota stopped putting the grab handle on the driver side , 2015 was the last year on the Tacoma. Same goes for the current 4Runner , 2009 was the last year with a driver side grab handle. But the 2010 Lexus GX to the current one has grab handles on both sides. I don's see Lexus owners taking there GX's off road. I would love to find out from Toyota why they decided to stop putting grab handles on the driver side of there trucks and suv's.
Excellent review, but the interesting thing is full torque comes on at 1700 rpm, and right across all the engine choices....
I'm glad they fixed the seating position, added rear disk brakes, remove that e-brake, moved front axle forward and rear axle back, more color inside and whats seem to be a wider armrest and a place at the door for my elbow. I might aimed for the trd offroad, as I feel it with a good value trim. I just skip first year for issues and mark ups.
Surprised you didn’t mention the rear tailgate. That is a feature many will want to add.
I honestly think I'd rather have the old V6 rather than a turbo 4 banger.
the v6 was not a real truck engine either, the 4.0 was
Yep, glad I bought a '23 TRO Pro a couple months ago. The update does look nice, but the hybrid turbo 4 is gonna have some problems for the next few years I'd guess.
I would take the hybrid. I’m excited about it’s performance and hopefully economy
The major problem for me they have finally solved with the new truck. I am to 2000 Tacoma for 16 years bought a brand new five speed manual V6 loved the truck, but the problem with the outgoing model was they lowered the head room and I couldn’t fit in the damn truck. I’m only 210 pounds but I’m 6 foot one and I had maybe an inch between my head in the roof. My 2000 model no problem had no issues. It’s one of the reasons I ended up buying a tundra because I could fit in the new truck. not that I would buy the new Tacoma now that I have an awesome tundra V8 but I’m glad that they’ve made the cab taller for those that are tall like me.
I’d take the slower reliable V6 over the turbo nonsense. If I wanted a racing truck I would have went with a Ram Rebel or a Raptor.
I love the new body style. Looks like it has a rear defrosting window as well.
I hope that 2.4l engine will live up to the 2.4l 22RE legacy
Absolutely will not.
The equivalent would be 22RT-E which was produced by Toyota in the 80’s for their pickups and 4Runners. It was before they offered a V6.
Haaaaaaaaa, haaaaaaaaa if u think it will be as reliable as the old 22r engins.
The 22RE was a simpler engine which is why it's legendary. The complex engines like the 2GR 3.5 and this new turbo 4 will never live up to that legacy.
You're dreamin. The 22re was the best engine Toyota ever put in a pickup
The improvement in the interior geometry and volume is the biggest deal for me. The new seating position is much better for taller drivers, and more room in the back is always welcome.
right. amazing improvement in my opinion
Thank you for that video comparison. Just what I wanted to see….side by side. Last 16 years it’s been daily driver an 02 S/C. Done that now for 400km & it has been a lot of fun, but there is no question after seeing this video that I’ll be holding off for the 2024 models. Disappointing thing is that the manual transmission models are lower option, lower power output so we are hopeful that this improves.
I love everything about the new one. I used to drive a manual sedan back in high school and I kinda miss it. The truck looks great inside and out. I might have to think about getting one of those.
Thank you for showing a comparison of the cabs!! Gives me hope to fit with my kid behind me
The space is good but I wish they hadn't place the hybrid battery under the rear seat. Rear vents is a surpsing ommission too.
@@hochhaul true! If I fit comfortably I’ll be going for the manual so won’t have that luckily. I just wish the newer tundras had a stick I’d be in one lol
The rear honestly looks smaller to me than the current gen. Maybe it's just the awful window design but it doesn't even look as big if you compare door size
@@Wolfsden_Gaming I thought so too but after watching this and a couple of other reviews the front seat repositioning seems to benefit the back seat as well. Edmunds had a 6ft 4 guy and his 6ft camera man sit in both front and back and be okay. Obviously won’t be as roomy as a tundra but they don’t offer a stick in that 😅
@Shane Mulligan glad to see it. I'm 6'1" and in my 2012 trd sport the back seat is tight. Most times if I have a 3rd person they just sit sideways with their legs up on the seat
I really love everything about this new truck! I just hope that the have the hard plastic back side of the back seats as an option. They aren't on this model which is a huge bummer considering I throw a lot of stuff in the back seats with them folded down and I'm worried it might rip up that cloth. (dirtbike gear, music equipment, etc.) It would be a shame if they got rid of that.
I picked up the 2023 i wanted the last of the 3rd gen where the bugs were worked out. I see the plastic bumpers and grill on the 23 and figured the 2024 would be made even worse.
I like the idea of the fully boxed frame on the 24, i have doubts on the level of steel quality in it. Also Toyota had rusty boxed frames before. I like the stronger (supposedly) front cv axles and rear dif on the 2024. I like the awd feature on the 2024. I like the more cabin space on the 2024 (even though its miniscule its like a inch you'd hardly notice). There are good things about the 2024.
I don't trust the build yet. The 2023 i just bought will probably last 250k. I doubt i keep it near that long. It's build quality is.,sub - par.
Here's the thing though. I expect the 2024 to be built even worse. The box frame, lets test its strength. The shee metal. What gauge? The bean counters are everywhere. We get rear disc, so what did we sacrifice for that? We don't know yet. I prefer the looks of the 3rd gen both inside and out. I like the manual parking brake. I like that it will be more simple to work on than the new gen. The giant info screen in the new model is intrusive, too big for the space. Ugly and distracting. As much as the color change on the dash and new vents might look updated I'd question the quality of the plastic. The aluminum hood saves weight, but i wonder if i can dent it just pushing down on it with my finger. The motor no doubt is under more strain. All turbos have issues at some point. Plan on getting it fixed at some point. This isn't a turbo diesel and even turbo diesel will eventually have issues. This will have issues. The hybrid battery takes up the storage space behind the seat. Also one more thing to have issues. I'll keep the storage space thanks.
It's too soon to tell on reliability on the new one. Wait until 2026, 2027 we will know more. There is a decline in quality. I went for the 2023 which i like enough. Even there its made a bit cheap. 2024, i dunno? I have a feeling it'll be worse. Didnt want to take the chance. I would like to see these metals. Plastics, actually tested. Could all be junk.
I did the same but got a 2022 at the end of last year and I’m happy with it
@@granty304 i really debated the frontier or zr2. I've had 2 frontiers already though, and chevy. Thought it be time for a tacoma try. I can't knock nissan though both were tough little trucks i owned. Next might be another frontier. See where build quality is then. Build quality on the frontiers i thought better. But we'll see how the taco does its supposedly super reliable. I didn't really have issues with the frontiers though.
I had faith in the nissans. Go Nissan! Least the frontiers. I don't have faith in the taco yet. Perhaps over time... 😂
Did the exact same as you and agree with all your points. Well said.
@@chrismlyle time will tell. Sometimes better to stick with the devil you know
@@itsallminor61332023 has everything I need except wireless careplay. I prefer the analog gauges as well. Gas mileage does suck but so will the 2024 once you remove the huge air damn, haha.
The TRD Pro is going to cost more than my HOUSE!! 😂
The difference is accentuated with a direct comparison. Look forward to getting your drive impressions and pricing. The removable dash speaker will become of interest to thieves, it's one more item to place out of site. Also don't see a handy spot for a cell phone mount or other accessory mount.
Could see myself trying to hit the side button with a 2x4 like I’m jousting and put it through the taillight
Joust ur ass first
Pretty cool, they fixed most of the stuff wrong. Seating, the most critical. These trucks not available until early 2024 though, I believe. I can't help but wonder ... when is Ridgeline due for a refresh? They're very different but still cross shopped by ppl who can swing either way, much like the 4runnner and outback are a totally different emphasis placed on the same idea.
No hood struts, no tow hooks, smaller, 4 cyl vs 6 cyl engine, longer turning circle, higher cost, lower seating postion, flimsy easily dented hood; OH WHAT A FEELING!
Not gonna lie. I’m leaning towards keeping my 3rd gen. Gotta feeling the old V6 is gonna outlast the 4 cylinder turbo’s
Thanks for leaving this in and giving me a chuckle 😂 7:36.
I got my 2022 3rd Gen a year ago, I asked the dealership about a new change and they didn’t know. My TRD Sport is a good looking truck. I have to say the new one looks great as well, I’m sure glad it doesn’t look like the Tundra. Tyr turbo enjoying reliability to be determined
I like old taco dash/screen better. not a fan of glue on tablet design. grey on grey is perfect for me :)
The 14 inch is an upgrade but i think it comes standard with an 8inch which is smaller and looks more like the 3rd gen one but with their updated software
I have never wanted a Toyota. While reliable I always felt they were boring to drive and lacked power. This actually has me pivoting. Next year I will test one for purchase against the Gladiator.
@@_Hao_Nguyen_ No question. If manual was not an option I wouldn't even consider.
Toyota has always been the beset, not boring

@@joshanderson924 actually that is not true in my case. I had a 2013 tacoma, cat recalled @ 7x,xxx miles, free for me, but still a recall. also brake rotor wrapped probably because I used brakes too much coning down 1 mountain. also had 2017 taco off road, flawless but maintain schedule every 5k miles. rotate tire, fluid blab blab, oil change every 10k. tranny fluid flush every 30k/50k I dont remember. both truck drove to 90k/75k miles. I'm just now learning they still had a manual all these years. When I would check the website and do the "build your own" I was selecting a long bed and it wouldn't show manual as an option so I thought they had stopped offering it.
i like the new one with the 6 speed and the 6 foot bed. good options
Can you get a manual with a 6' bed in any model? Thanks guys.
Thanks. Didn't realize they were so small on the inside and cramped in the back seat. Glad I bought the Highlander.
How have the towing numbers been with the manual vs auto? The power output is different but does that change the trucks towing capacity?
My 2006 analog gen 2 TRD Sport 4L V6, 6 speed manual has power windows and a radio. Couldn't imagine the frustration of all those modern electronics breaking down after having the truck for 16 years 😢. It's the truck rebel forces around the world want. I wouldn't want to cross a river in it!
Right. More crap to cost you time and money.
And they're now made it Mexico. Adding complications and having it made it Mexico, likely to have more problems than older ones
The push button start is annoying the electronic parking brake is annoying the powered tailgate is annoying the lane assist is annoying the fact that the truck can break on its own is annoying the fact that you cannot get a V6 in it is annoying but good job on offering a manual! Toyota discovers guerrilla marketing
The big TACOMA across the dash is tacky. I know I'm in a taco I don't need a reminder. I hope there are alternative interiors for the TRD Pro because that red theme is loud and juvenile. At least they dialed back the gloss plastics because it's super annoying how easy they scratched.
@@hochhaul What about the addition of color? The new Tacoma does have more flair compared to the 14 year old previous design. Of all the upgraded features which one is the most attractive to you?
I like the added interior space. Love the rear tailgate feature. The four wheel disc brakes, upgraded suspension, and 8-speed automatic transmission is 👍 good too.
Kudos to Toyota for doing something like this. Great marketing. And great work by the TFL guys.
Thank you for watching.
I’m very short at 5’7 I can sit very comfortably in my 3rd gen Tacoma. Even took a few naps in it during my lunch breaks
Is the TRD off-road and TRD Pro available with the manual transmission?
The PreRunner with the manual trans would be great to see in action and in everyday driving. For some reason that model has intrigued me out of all the Tacoma's...
No manual transmission for the Prerunner.
Wish they would have had the same dashboard design. They went from an integrated center stack to slapping a tablet on the dash with some double sided tape. Super annoying when auto makers slap that tablet center display in there like it's an afterthought, but seems to be the current design trend. So ugly on the new truck.
Most have pretty much stopped doing the " floating tablet" in their new designs, Toyota apparently hasn't gotten the memo.
Exactly. I never liked the floating tablet design approach.
Well they brought the screen closer to the driver and if they integrated it into the dash, that would mean the dash would have to extend out to be flush with the screen and that would look really bad
@Steve With how big the screen is, they shouldn't need to have it that close. My current Jeep has I believe an 8" integrated to the dash and its fine, physical buttons take care of HVAC and whatnot. Even Ford was able to integrate a 12" screen into the Ranger so I'm sure Toyota could have figured out how to do the same thing and still have it look natural instead of taking the somewhat lazy way out and just sticking it on there. Honestly, it's my only serious gripe with this truck.
@@TihsonToo doesn't matter how big the screen is, people still need to be able to reach it, especially tall drivers who put their seat all the way back. I'm still gonna say based on how close its mounted and how high its mounted on the dash, extending the dash outward and upward, higher than the gauge cluster hood, to surround the screen would be bad
I will be getting a 2025 model I have a 16 and have been waiting for this. Thanks for the first look
Great video. What is the ground clearance under that huge chin spoiler? It does not look like 9.5 under there.
The only thing I see that I don’t like is the goofy fake louver in the front bumper in front of the wheel kind of like the Camry I mean why do that if it serves no purpose, it’s just a place to catch bugs and mud and you can’t keep it clean if it was functional yeah that’s great
At first, I thought it was for fog lights or at least put an opening to allow air flow over the brakes when towing. There is a TFL video where they were towing with a Raptor, and the brakes overheated until smoke was pouring out.
@@aerynlovell4754 yes I agree if it serves a purpose by all means if not delete it keep it clean and smooth. I don’t think I seen that louver on the TRD model it wasn’t there. I’m pretty sure I wish they was coming out soon I’d trade this king ranch in for a Tacoma in a heartbeat.
Great job! the manual is a must for some folks ❤.

Whaaaat? Backseat review from KBB showed no changes but TFL’s video shows the changes 🤯
Well it looks good. Have to wait till folks start getting drive time with it
I don’t understand how people complain that the current version is small and people hit their heads… I’m 6’8 and I fit just fine, I drive a 2020 off road. Also the head rests on the current one fold down and come out and actually have a designated place for them once they’re removed but I guess the newer version is idiot proof.
Is the manual trans. the same or did they change it to better match the new engines. Will there be a MT with the hybrid?
Strongly dislike the power park brake, strongly dislike the 14" screen, strongly dislike the power tailgate. I like the styling, and I like the new seating position.
Can't wait to see what kind of dealer "adjustments" are going to be like 🤨
While driving, I saw a man whose motorhome had broken down in the center of a roundabout. Despite larger trucks passing by, such as Rams, Silverados, and Chevys, no one stopped to assist him. I approached the man and offered my help. He accepted, and I used my Tacoma to tow his 8,000lb motorhome out of the roundabout without any issues. I understand the risks involved, but I trust the reliability of Tacomas as they are well-built vehicles.
Cool story. Thanks for sharing.
Being a good samaritan is not defined by what you drive. There are countless factors why people don't stop to help like they used to. Risk to themselves and others is a primary concern. Cell phones have given countless people the opportunity to help w/out direct intervention. Chances are, a lot of people called it in and help was on the way. In my youth(before cell phones)I often pulled over to help stranded motorists. It never bit me in the ass for doing so, but there are countless stories where it goes bad.
@@WW-wf8tu Hello there! Just to clarify, I was able to pull a big motorhome with a Tacoma. I totally understand your concern and agree that caution is crucial on the road. Safety first, always!
“Many more angles”. Just following the tradition of vehicle styling since the beginning. Round body updated to square body. And someday it will go back to a round body style!
The back seat still fold the same? I thought they would have done like the others where seat fold up, so the floor is open for storage
Gatta say, I'm not a fan of the push button start. As a diver, I need to be able to lock the truck and take the key with me, so having a physical key is an absolute must.
Also not a fan of an electronic parking brake, especially if there is no manual override like I saw on some Subaru's. I love the fact that my 2016 TRD off road still has a hand brake (which you can still have with rear discs).
I used to say that, but the no-key key is so convenient. I almost hate my old Taco key, now.

I agree with you. There no such thing as a perfect Tacoma design. I like the front and rear of Gen 4 but don't like the side profile.
Don't knock or forget the LONG TERM reliability of the NA V-6 compared to the new turbo as nobody knows about that yet, i am looking at the TRD sport manual now, a 2023. Regarding the power tailgate i think manually closing it is part of owning a truck and also just something else that will break. I have a 2023 Tuscon SEL AWD and it has the button i can just push to close and i never used it and i am 68.
Will a shell off a 2nd gen fit on the 2024 bed? That is, are the bed dimensions the same?
Hoping for a Technical Review of the new Engine of 2024 Tacoma versus the reliable V6 engine of previous tacoma's.
That will take years to find out… or maybe not I hope it does well, I’ll still wait about three years to get one my 21 trd sport is doing well (knock on wood).
Drove a 4.0L V6 Tacoma - had good acceleration and it was fast. But the truck weird seating position and cramped interior big turnoff.
Maybe the 4.0, but the previous 3.5 is a hunk of 💩.
Yeah my gen 2 frontiers v6 is doing great. And these 4 cylinder turbos don't really beat it on the numbers since I won't buy a hybrid model. And it was about 14 thousand less dollars.
These 2.4s are bulletproof. I can promise that.
So glad I went with frontier good ole v6 and sharper looking in my opinion.
so sharp i havet seen one on the roads yet 😂
@@tinhinnh better than seeing them in ever corner basicccccc . And I can see you got offended by my opinion grow up
@@josel1325 offended? no way jose
Frontier is damn ugly ain’t nobody want one
So you cant open the tailgate if the battery is dead?
Does it have cruise control?
Truck looks amazing. But as a person who likes to modify there truck. I have a 2018 TRD sport 6inch lift on 35s and man I already hated 6speeds due to not having enough gearing. I hope this one isn’t worse with 6-8speeds
The engineer that they interviewed said it was much improved over the old 6 speed auto.
@dylanleary8425
35s are significantly bigger diameter than stock.
I will recommend looking into regearing your truck, it makes a world of difference
I know what is like running bigger wheels and tires on stock gears.... it's not fun at all.
I’m interested in seeing how well it does towing compared to the last gen. The numbers are lower, but if the new one pulls 5-6000 lbs better, I’ll be impressed
No midsize trucks pulls more than 7700 if you need something more than that get a full size.
I think it has the same tow rating of 6500 as the last gen but there was an option for integrated brake controller and remote trailer camera system so towing is definitely a higher priority
You will see it at TFLtruck !
@@TFLtruck the spec sheet indicates that all manual transmission trucks will receive the 270 hp spec - including the SR. Is that right?
@@davidhopewell3397 no the SR for a reason has the detuned engine from all others, so if u can buy SR with manual, then its gonna be less power than other trims
Can you get the 6 speed manual with the hybrid engine configuration?
i have a 2017 trd off-road with push button start and the rear window is electric too.
i cant believe after watching dozens of taco vids noone has measured the width between wheel wells. Something every contractor always needs to know.
Why would a contractor use a midsize if they're actually doing work with the bed? And if they are they probably have a utility trailer for the leaf blowers and mower.
@@Tb0n3 Because it's easier to maneuver a mid-size around a construction site. Not every contractor is a landscaper.
@@techjdu I was just saying it like that because the only guys who want a midsize are landscapers. Why the hell would a construction site be so cramped that a midsize's maneuverability would make a difference?
not every contractors needs a fullsize truck
The reason I mention this is because this is a brand new body truck. Anytime a new pickup truck comes along, the first thing any review should include is the bed size IMO. A pickup truck is designed with a bed to haul items. I have been a contractor for 40+ years. In that time I have owned many trucks. The past 30 or so years most all full size. There are a ton of 4x8 sheet goods carried everyday by many people and for many its the main reason they must buy a full size truck, not too mention snowmobiles fit in the bed between wheel wells. Now that the midsize trucks are growing in size and approaching the size the full size trucks were in the 80s/90s, it simply makes sense that the width between wheel wells is increasing too. I know the Ridgeline is a good example, albeit a shallow bed IMO. And most recently it was said the new '24 Ford Ranger will have 48+ inches of width between wheel wells making it the 2nd mid size to allow for easy 4x8 sheet goods and even a snowmobile to lay flat on bed floor. With all the talk about the new Tacoma having a wider track, I hoped for a few more inches between the wells, but since it has not been mentioned I'm gonna assume they left it below a 48" width. I just don't understand why any truck journalist when seeing a new truck for first time would not have his tape measure so his review would be comprehensive when asked one of the most important questions about a pickup.
Toyota did the needful to get the taco added to my future vehicle list finally. Personally, I am pleased with the refresh.
It’s not a refresh it’s a redesign
I love em both. Always a great little truck
How can you be a truck channel not know the window is powered at this point.
there all old
Yes I agree, as a truck buyer the very first thing on my mind is power windows.
looks like they are selling watches first, and talking trucks second
Same way they order them without cruise control... lol (j/k Andre)
😂
At certain angles in the video, the 2024 Tacoma is reminiscent of the Rivian.
I like the comfort improvements. Good looking truck. Hopefully these fancy 4 cylinders hold up as well as the V6s have.
Totally agree-have a 5th gen 4Runner, and being that I paid it off 2yrs ago…I’ve been waiting to get back in the truck-game. Almost pulled the trigger on the 2023…but I waited to see the new gen update.
Love the new look, and all the new goodies…BUT…I am really worried about the turbo/hybrid 4cyl’s being offered now. Yes, it’s more powerful…but what makes a Toyota, a “Toyota” is not only its reliability-but the ease in which you can fix it if needed.
Not a fan of worrying about whether or not the turbo will have issues or if the hybrid set up goes down (how that will affect my wallet).
Do not think I will jump on this until I see some wear on the engine, praying enough noise happens to where Toyota brings back the naturally aspirated (bulletproof) V6-but I highly doubt it being that Toyo is committing to a zero-carbon goal moving forward.
Confused and disappointed 🤷🏽♂️
That’s why I bought a 2022 Frontier because I knew where midsize trucks were headed and I’m willing to trust a V6 over an I4 all day everyday. People whine about gas mileage and fail to realize that they bought a truck not a Camry….
@@chrispangelinan2487 Toyota has been delaying the turbo charger with small displacement for years while other manufactures have been implementing them. I choose to believe it was because they were perfecting it haha
@Bub ; man I hope so. My Dad bought the ‘95 (still my favorite look, besides this one)-gave it to me in High School…& still has it. Moved back to the islands after 16yrs stateside, but had 2 kids in tow-so I opted for the 4Runner. Been eagerly waiting to get back to the Tacoma…& this was going to be it. Definitely might be holding to tight to the “trusted & true”. Toyota hasn’t steered us wrong yet, I just can’t drop 50k without seeing results. Valid point though
*my Dad still has the ‘95 (which I am about to pry from him in a year or two…maybe I’ll convince him to buy the 2024 so it’ll be easier for him to let go-but he has a 2014 Taco also)
@@pky0assToyota has been turbocharging cars since the 80’s, in many different cars / motors, but most of those stayed in Japan / Australia. Never made it to the US market. So they’ve been doing it for a long time, but a turbocharger is an added (expensive) complexity
Took a really long long time to get the seating position corrected. Portable dash speaker intrigues me.
Good job Toyota
How many inches between the wheel wells in the new bed?
I do like the improvements. A little bit more space in rear seat but still looked a bit tight but much better than old version. Interior is a HUGE improvement over old model. My only gripe is the lower front air dam on the Sport and Limited trim. Looks out of place and I’m sure it will get damaged when parking against a parking block or curb. Way too low to the ground. Otherwise this new model will assure Tacoma will stay the leader in mid-size truck sales
I bet that front air dam can be easily removed.
I kinda had the opposite thought, to me it looked like the old gen had more room in the rear. It’s hard to tell on video, so I could easily be wrong though. I agree though, the air dam is way too large. They also have a picture on the official Toyota website with the OR trim even having the air dam and I’m just like why? If I’m going off roading I would never ever want that thing on. Hopefully it’s just a place holder and they don’t actually put the dam on the OR.
You can damn the dam, but it's there for highway MPG.
The dam is made to be removable.
There's a video from Larry Chen where they explain the air dam. It takes 9 screws to take it off.
Hey TFL, next new Tacoma video can you measure the distance between the wheel wells? there's alot of us who use these vehicles as work vehicals rather than overlanding rigs. would like to know if i can lay down a sheet of plywood in it now
i just posted same thing! Dozens of vids and one thing most guys want noone even thinks about doing! geesh
Exactly. No one bothers to bring a tape measure.
well from the vids, new one looks to have smaller wheel wells
@@tinhinnh Yup the shape of it as well looks like it will be harder to fit larger tires in there
@@BatuSmoka808 but it also look like the tracks have been widen (i think they said by 3”?) so thats why it has bigger fenders
Nissan Frontier - proven drivetrain, extended and crew cab 6foot bed options, and better looking ! All at lower pricing !!!
Is the center console handle removable
I'll stick with my 3rd gen Tacoma. 4th gen's styling is far to busy for my tastes and I prefer N/A engines for truck motors.
Besides, MSRP is probably going to be 50-60K with a 10K 'market adjustment'
The dealers are definitely going to take advantage of the hype and demand sadly.
Nope. New Tacomas start at 28k
I’d go for the old one with the reliable V6
I’m glad they got rid of the round air vents, they drove me crazy in my 2021 Tacoma, way too directional.
Can you get the new one with crew cab, 6' bed and manual transmission ? Because you couldn't with the old ones. It was the reason I didn't buy one. If you can get that configuration on the new one I might get one.
I see a bunch of useless stuff and more parts that can/will break.

For the 2016-2023 Taco - The back window is powered, and the switch is placed under the AC control panel.
And for the back seat, the headsets are able to bend down and give it more room to fold down. However, the actual way to do it is to lift the lower seat part up. Then detached the headsets and place them in other holes in the lower seat part. After that, you can fold the upper part all the way down, which will create a floor as a storage room. Also, there is storage under the lower seat part too as well.
The more you know.
Will the 2 door version have a long bed option?
You can clearly see the drivers seat on the old style is way farther ahead than on the new tacoma, I really doubt the back seat has any more leg room but I'm just going off of Roman knees to the dash and the seat in relation to the door pillar. Maybe it's bigger but not 5 inches bigger
That's what she said 😂
Other than the overly high final drive ratio of the third gen that causes gear hunting(easily solved with a 4.88 or 5.29 re-gear depending on tire size), I like the old version better for the purpose of being a truck. No minivan-style tailgate motor to burn out, no turbo to go out like on full size and heavy duty trucks. Just a basic V6 & 4cyl that does everything that it needs to do. But props for retaining a 6’ bed and manual option. And the regular cab 2wd PreRunner w/LSD is going to be great for people who want a little truck.
Would love to see the rear facing child seat installed. One reason i got rid of my 21 tacoma. Looks like theres more legroom to fit one
same here
Same leg room buddy
@@FrameRot they just showed a side by side buddy. With the same driver with the driver seat in his driving position, he had more room in the new truck vs the old. So again. Im interested in real world tests. Not some piece of paper comparison

One thing about headroom in the 23 truck is that you lose 2-3 inches of headroom with a sunroof get off with out and you'll fit fine
