Mia Morris / music vlog #26 “lots of glass”/ Nashville Artist, Songwriter and Multi-instrumentalist

- This vlog covers a 6-week period where I had a lot of things to film but very little time to edit. It includes two double shows downtown at the Listening room and two music video shoots. There are a ton of other people throughout the vlog, including a bunch of my friends that were in the music video, Don’t Get Me Started. I won’t list everyone here but if you go to the official music video for that song, I list everyone in the description. Per usual, there are several musical guest appearances that include Tenille Townes, Caylee Hammack & Bonner Black.
I had a little difficulty trying to decide how much of my rambling about the music business to include in this episode. Part of the reason it was such a challenge is that my understanding of how record label & publishing deals are structured is growing and my perspectives are changing. I’m guessing I will go into more detail in some other vlog eventually but these last couple of months have been very educational. The business of music can be many things but one thing it’s not, is what it looks like from the outside. It’s also a very different business than it was 10 or even 5 years ago. That certainly doesn’t impact how I feel about music which is why I cut a lot of what I originally recorded. I’m sure there’s more to learn and more to come on that particular subject. I intend to stay in both music and the music business so I plan on learning it all.
I’m 16 years old and I want to be a music professional when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend a lot of my time writing and recording. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 5 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing music, keep loving it and keep getting better.

Your drumming brought back memories of me taking music class to learn to drum. When my abusive father pushed me to practice way over whst the teacher assigned me to do and forced me to live his dream instead of my own I quit after getting A's I'm the class one on one with music teacher.thansl for bringing me back to the memory of the teacher and how he stood by me and made me feel appreciated. I'm still LOVING listening to drummers!!

What a great Christmas gift from my favorite musical artist. So I may have mentioned that I like writing and sometimes I come up with ideas and I'm like wow this is crazy or maybe it's too much but it's only me I have to convince and if it fits with the story well, in it goes, whereas you have to convince your friends. Okay here's what I wanna do. (Sitting on the couch looking pissed while they're in the background having fun, or having a paint war or breaking lots of glass etc.) But what I really love about your videos is that they always work. Somehow they fit with the song and visually they're cool to look at. Even your "simple" ones of just you walking down a street or hanging around an old building it always works every time.
So, whatever happens with the "meetings" I'm sure you'll make the right decision. You're smart enough to make the right choice even if the choice is to wait for a better deal. When you mentioned pilot it reminded me of Pulp Fiction. John Travolta say's, "I don't watch TV." And Samuel L. Jackson say's, "Yes, but you are aware of this invention called television and on this invention they show shows right?" Such a classic.
Well, before I totally bore you to death, Have a Merry Christmas. Hope your family is all happy and well. Give Frisco a pat on the head for me. Enjoy your break from school for a few days. And most important thanks for making probably the worst year that I can ever remember totally bearable with your amazing music and videos and a chance to see what it takes to make it in the music industry from someone as talented as you.

It's great that you're getting to meet people in the industry, and make important contacts. Your attitude toward them is really cool. My friend in Boston had a recording studio (analogue then), so I developed a feeling for what goes on. I see things happening on Spotify that don't involve me, so it looks like you've been using a service. It would be great to see Song Suffragettes get onto Netflix, both for their sake and yours. The exposure you would get should do wonders for your career. Your fluorish of new originals makes a great portfolio to attract promoters who can get you more exposure. Surrender, but don't give yourself away.

Probably a good thing you got the time to work on your own stuff. Gigging with others is great and all, so long as you don't lose yourself and who you are. Sometimes you can get pigeonholed into being an accompaniest and lose your originality. Keep being Mia!

ha! well thank you and thanks for taking the time to send me this. i'll be playing a bunch for callista this summer so make sure you say hey if you're ever at any of the shows. as far as the the labels go, they're just throwing darts and going through the same process with all their bands hoping to get lucky with 1 out of 100.. it's a business with an awful lot of luck involved so i wouldn't look to the labels choices as any indication of potential.

The traffic on the expressway, it's the same or worse here. I-75 is under a major construction project for 20 miles. Total tear up and replace new bridges and modernize exits and on ramps.

Just be careful when breaking glass.
A small piece can end up in your eye and that's not good. I speak from experience. Blind in my left eye..from a price of glass.

This is sound advice. But if she wears goggles, it ruins the effect. So better advice is to smash something that doesn't risk injury. Same effect.
