Mia Morris / music vlog #29 “the basement east” / live rock concert - Nashville TN

- The Basement East is a rock club that I first got to sneak into during a Rare Hare show where Kip Winger was the special guest. I don’t know for sure, but I would guess Kip must live around Nashville since Rare Hare is a little bit like the musician equivalent of, “fight club” in Nashville. Tyson Leslie gets a bunch of Rock musicians together every so often to play way too loud. He has been one of so many music business people that have welcomed me into the Nashville rock scene. Tom Hurst is another that puts on a similar show called Loud Jamz which I’ve actually posted some footage of in other vlogs.
Mike Grimes, or as he’s affectionately referred to around here, Grimey is another staple in the rock scene that has gone out of his way to help me. I first met him after a gig playing as a sideman at another one of his clubs called, the Basement. He owns a record store called, Grimey’s and as you might have guessed, he owns the legendary Basement East. As you will see in this vlog, the “Beast” has had a rough year since it was destroyed by a hurricane but it is back and more beautiful than ever. Grimey reached out when he had an opening in one of his shows and I was happy to have an excuse to put a set together.
The two musicians that joined me for this gig were Sam Hunter on guitar, bgv’s & keys and Ysa Fernandez on bass, bgv’s & keys. They have both done other projects I’ve been involved with and have made appearances in other vlogs through the years. Some of the video from the show was shot by the usual suspects but we also had a Belmont student named Jessica Hood helping out so, shout-out and thank you to Jess! I’m so glad to see more & more shows happening around town and I can’t wait for the live music scene to get back to where everyone can enjoy music together.
I’m 16 years old and I want to be a music professional when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend a lot of my time writing and recording. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 5 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing music, keep loving it and keep getting better.

Your dad is always quick witted. "Let's see how your geometry is in loading stuff in the back of the car". Funny.
Awesome show, keep em' coming! Congrats on the Geometry award!
Thanks for the peek behind the scenes. Your set was awesome, of course 😎🥁🎶
:D
Mia , very proud of you . I live just up the interstate on the Kentucky / Tennessee border . Hoping to catch one of your live shows . Keep living that Rock & Roll Dream .
I just drove through there heading to Indy over spring break. There will be more shows to come :)
Awesome show Mia! Glad I was able to make it. Thanks to Ray for letting me know about it, and getting our table right up front. Having grown up in LA, your dad is completely wrong when he says Nash traffic at 20 mph is 15 mph faster than LA...it's more like 19-20 mph faster. I've been in total gridlock on I10 and not moved for 5-10 minutes at a time. Basement East is a cool spot. Nashville is more than just country, and you're proof of it. Keep on Rockin' girl !!!
Thanks for getting to soooo many of the shows Joseph - see you soon.
I also love your stand up drumming, and still kicking 😆
Your rock gig at "the basement east" was impressive. Strange geometry by an outstanding 'Geometer.'
Yesss Love it Sooo Awesome, especially your Live performances, Love how when you were loading equipment the dog was carrying his own Lol 😆 🐕 🙌🥰♥️💞🖤💯🎤🎸🥁🎶🔊🌟
..he's never far :)
Good Day Rocker Girl. Great Vlog, you keep them interesting. Congrats on the "Gee I'm a Tree" award and nice work on the acoustic treatment in your studio
another great vlog, always enjoy the live shots, well maybe setting up your kit in the Placement you want it and stage placement of your equipment yeah you can give yourself a tick for that being geometry. I once watch my plane take off while stuck in traffic on an L.A. Freeway, your dad is right. Enjoy your weekend
Wow Mia you rock 🤘 I wish I could come to Nashville to see you perform. Oh well I guess I’ll just have to wait until you play Madison Square Garden cause I know some day you will. Keep rockin’ girl 🥰🥁🎸🎹🎤🤘
heheh - that might take a little while, but I like how you think!
Love you so much. It's nice to see your up beat attitude and smile . Makes a great day at the of a long work day. Keep Rocking.
Mia your videos are top notch you always put great content thanks for sharing everything you do 💗💜💙❤️🎹🎸🎼🎤✌🏻
Great Vlog thanks Mia. So good seeing you on that stage! You sure belong.
Don't Dad's make the best roadies. Do thank him, on behalf of your fans, or at least this fan inpaticular, for all he does to help you and help bring your journey to us. These vlogs are so great! I got to find my way to Nashville someday to see you live onstage.
Thanks for keeping such great music coming. Hope you get out on stage a lot more over the next few months as the world slowly gets its act together.
Shot out to the rest of your band too. Thanks Yas and Sam for your skills being put to great use on that stage too.
And much appracitons too all the others that help you behind the sceenes, including those who grab video so there is some great content for these vlogs.
No suporise folk want to be there for you Mia, including some of the big wigs in Nashville. You sure are outstanding with your music, writing, playing, and such a hard worker human too. Huge respect and appreciation. I hope music is always remains your passion. A world without Mia Morris Music is a world to sad to even contenplate.
Have a great weekend!!
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment and I agree. So much support since the beginning from my family and Nashville has turned out to be a special community where the musicians really support each other too. I play for other artists all the time with a bunch of these musicians so that seems to help when I'm looking for my shows. Have a great weekend!
Once again, loved the vlog. BTW, your Tic/Tok vignettes are a brilliant way to use that medium. Also I've figured out why Frisco is called Frisco. Saw a new pup come to the shelter with a Frisco collar!!!
Super cool vlog! 😎 Maybe geometry can help in configuration of an exotic drum set one day for the standing Queen 👑! Enjoyed the look at "THE BEAST" and it's history..and of course y'all looked and sounded great in the live bits! Bravo MIA!
I Remember when the tornado hit on March 3rd, 2020 early morning. It was shown on the news here in Greenville,SC. It's an act of God that one part of the wall was left standing. Great to know it's back and kicking better than ever. Yes, slow traffic like I said before. Maybe Lars will contact ya. And no, not quite 21 yet. Thanks for letting us backstage.
That was a really Awesome show in an amazing venue. ENCORE!! One More Time! So looking forward to your next gig there. Also any other gig along the way.
Rare Hare and Loud Jamz are also so much fun! I still go back and watch the video of the Sass Jordan cover you played bass on with Rich Redmond. One of the best covers I've ever seen and heard. It was epic. To me anyway.
Well thanks for another cool vlog. Love them so much. You're Da Bombdiggity Neighbor! Have a fun Friday and a wonderful weekend! 😁🤘💕😎
I'm with you on all of that. That night actually came up in a meeting yesterday when the guy was sure I was a bass player :) My favorite LJ song so far.
@@miamorrismusic well that guy knew what's up! 😁
Love your vlogs, Mia. You are so awesome, Love your music !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did give you fair warning on that tornado. Anyway you are like a real life hero giving people hope and joy with your music. It would be corny but it's true. Those cymbals are so cool where have I been I have 50+ year Zildjians. Also your dog really loves that bone pillow and good to see he's doing good. Have a good weekend etc.
You have a good weekend as well - Frisco has gotten quite old in the last couple of years but he's hanging in there :)
Congrats on your gig and your Geometry award ! Most people don't realize just how smart us drummers are. Studies from Karolinska Institute , University of Oxford and Harvard confirms it. Geometry is something you might not use outside of school but actually your naturally using a form of it every time your setting up your kit . Thanks for the great video and great music.
Good clip Mia! Very good band! Keep at it. Take care.
Mia always makes me smile! Geometry for the win!
You are a great person. Keep up the hard work! 👍🌹
:) thank you Mike - count on it.
Yes Mia I know that's where you have played before. That is why I was worried about you when I heard about the Tornado that hit this location.
Love this Vlog. Your The Best Mia Morris ♡♡♡♡♡♡
Geometry has become fashionable in academic circles. So I'm impressed. Perhaps you'll be asked to perform at their annual convention. I think they have found another dimension to play in.
You Rock Mia! Keep on Jammin girl! Much Love! ❤❤❤
I drove thru Nashville on March 15th....looking for boiled peanuts.... found some then headed on a 6000 mile trip across country
Hi hi Mia! I hope you’re doing well and having a an awesome week! Great vlog! I also followed you on TikTok! You have incredible content! Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend! ❤️❤️
Mia! :-) You never ceases to amaze me! You go girl!! :D
Awesome as always .. great job on that Geometry !!!
Hi there... Beautiful drummer, sensational performances... Keep going breaking a leg darling... Cheers from Nicaragua...
You Rock ..
i am amazed to see ( and the band ) rock the stage live
the absolute lack of stage fear - keep it coming - make it happen !
the good grades and certificates are just the proof that you are talented AND smart
is there a chance of recording and streaming a complete show/rehersal session ?
id like to hear full songs and stuff :) maybe some of you older original work or a good mix
have a nice weekend
the proud silver
Mia, pleae take whatever precaution needed as Tropical Strom Ida heads your way. With all the flooding and now this, please keep you family and yourself safe and keep an eye on the weather. I'm praying for you and all impacted by this historic storm. Much love and stay safe.
I love your music, your vlogs. So much freaking talent!
Hey Bethany! Thank you very much.
Mia, thank God no one was in that building, I’m sorry that happened. But, I just wanted to say I think your an awesome drummer, let’s face it, I don’t think there isn’t anything you can’t do. Your so talented. You keep going. I would like to see you do some Def Leppard. Keep rockin.

Dang cool & yet still down to earth...
Cool dogbone pillow too
He falls asleep on that thing at least once a day...
Sounded great!! Wish I could have been there :)
Great job on your performance! I actually do use geometry now and again. You never know what the future holds.
:) thanks!!
Hello Mia, Beautiful and friendly as always ... Greetings from Argentina 👋😊
Greetings :)
Congratulations on your run of shows at the Basement. You have worked hard for this and deserve everything that you have achieved so far.
You may be surprised about the geometry I thought the same thing in high school now I use it everyday lol
Are you an architect?
Keep grindin. It's coming for you all. Too much talent now, with evident continued growth to come, for someone not to green light you to stardom. Rockstar!
Hello, mine, I haven't written to you for a long time ... and I see that that ... storm can't beat you ... of course because you're an angel !!! more and more powerful !!!! When I was your age around 1987 I used to listen to a band ... very original that shook my brain with a sound and you disturbingly here in Argentina was called SUMO ... certainly one of their songs is called Un Tornado ... look for it. ..it will blow your head !!!! !!!! To God my angel !!!!👼👼👼
Getting close to 50k! Are those triggered low volume cymbals?🎵❤🇺🇸
those cymbals are just the low end / low volume Z's. I've got a few different options that I swap out depending on the stage and how much bleed is getting into the headset. I don't love low volume cymbals and would never use them to record but they sure make practice rooms a lot more pleasant and they are necessary for drummer/singers if you want the soundman to have any control.
That was a awesome vlog girl!! I loved seeing you up on stage doing what you do best. Man, I SOOOOO wish I could have been there. How long do they let you play Mia? Do you do a drum solo?? Any thought of recording one of your shows in full and posting it for us die hard fans? Or even release it on a DVD so you can make some money from it. I'd happily purchase a Mia Morris live concert DVD. And finally, Frisco looks great making his self known in your vlog. He looks so happy playing with his squeaky bone. lol Congratulations on another successful live performance! 👍👍
Well I believe in MIA. No gig to big no gig to small this is MIA dammit she'll bring it All.
And you didn't disappoint with your A game performance. Love from Motown Mia
Hey Robert - thanks. I'm happy to get the gig and very happy just to see shows, musicians, venues.. all of it beginning to happen again.
So, so cool to see this! Btw, you have an amazing dad too. Also congrats on your geometry award! Noice!
Being a science major, I can appreciate that Outstanding Performance in Geometry award...so congratulations on that, too!
:) thank you
I love your music Mía one kiss from México
Yay! Thanks for allowing auto-generated captions.
i'm so glad it worked. i will endeavor to do that on more.
Hey Mia, so funny about your geometry award, but I thought you were getting an award for "Most absent" 🤣 . To me, looks like you're loosening up on stage, getting more and more confident 🤩 . Your live sound seems to be improving too. Seems we have not heard the last of you. Take care. 😊
HA! yes, that would not have surprised me :) "least hours actually spent in the classroom" :) Thanks Raymond.
The Dog: "nobody is playing with me😥"
Time to write that song "Gee, I'm a tree." :)
I'm not a mathematician but I use geometry in solving many things, such as can I fit a cubby organizer in that space? It's not a conscious thing. But I know spatial thinking has underlying principles related to geometry.
Mía you are the affle of My eye kiss me Doll 👌👍💚👑🌹💙
I once drove from Los Angeles International Airport north to Santa Monica going ZERO mph. Yep. Zero. Between idle and my brakes, the needle of the speedo never came off the peg which was 5 mph. (Well, at least just about every time I looked down at it.)
oooff... we missed a few appointments when we were there last. Just couldn't begin to get where we needed to.
Your snare sounds awesome.
:) now that's a comment that'll make me smile - thank ya man
I love your talent and style 😊
thank you so much. i really appreciate you taking the time to say hello :)
The X on hands..you could start a group (like a book group) called "the teen X club".. wait.. that sounds funny.. could be misinterpreted.. :-D
I won't miss the x's. When I was playing a bunch before 2020, it would get to where my hands were tinted..
@@miamorrismusic It's interesting; until you talked about it in various comments, I didn't realize that you played so many gigs for other musicians!
📢🎼 I have one too but I haven't tested its potential as a musical instrument yet 🥁🤓💯🤙
First, it was nice to see Frisco carrying around his bone like Linus with his blanket. (I hope to God you know what that means.) Second, I'm glad you were able to perform at such an iconic place. Have you also played at The Basement? So an X means under 21? And here the whole time I thought it was where the treasure was buried. Maybe in your case it is with the way you can play anything and make it awesome. That was a weird way to give you a compliment, looking back on it. If you ever see Metallica just see if they'll let you play drums on Fuel and they'll be so impressed that you'll get free reign on all their music. I see you get part of your sense of humor from your dad and he's right about the LA thing, plus you'd be getting shot at more than likely. Nothing like a little GTA to brighten your drive.
Yes, the Basement is a much smaller club closer to downtown where I've played for several artists. The Basement East is East of the river where there is a lot more alternative & rock happening. They scribble an X on both hands to make it obvious for a bartender apparently :)
Cooollll Miaaaa ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I drive the LA traffic every day. You're right on with that comment. 🙄 My life.
Must have been an awesome show. Congratulations to you and your bandmates.
Hey, Mia !! Princess of Rock !! Have a Great Weekend !! ✌✌👏👏💐🎸💙
❤❤❤
CONGRATS on a sold out show, that's outstanding , so a eSpace Concert would be neat, you wouldn't have to leave your street, it would be a sell out show, all your fans could be in the front row, your shows agenda would be on you, livestream , Moment House, Yoop, Sessions, can be used just to name a few, ticket prices for the show, different packages from high to low , determines ticket prices for the show, Mia it sure be grand, to see you and your band, from the front row and at home, that would be great, please don't hesitate and pick a date, think about it, i've recently been to Risa Binder, Sasha Sloan, Josh Turner , Scotty McCreery, Emily Ann Roberts, i have Hootie and the Blowfish and Zac Brown Band coming up. be great to see you on my list, i keep asking Callista, too. THINK ABOUT IT !!!!!!!!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤩👍👍☮☮🤗🤘 peaceout #besafebewell
🤘
kickass
💜MIA💜 at first glance, FOR a split second 🤔 “ I thought you brought down the house” (literally) in the opening of this Vlog. 🤭 U Shake the Stage with your hipster style, spicy performance & Hot Looks 🥵Love your Vlogs, glAd you were all safe 🌪 xx 🚒 Jesse 🤘
Are we supposed to take this literally? Were you T H E Most Outstanding Student in Geometry, or were you one of a few who were so honoured? Not that it matters. Someone thought enough of your work in this subject to give you the recognition you deserved. Excluding my post graduate work, I never (No! That's not true! I got a bunch of these. It was painful. I was pathologically shy. I began to shave points off my grades so that I'd never again have to be called up to accept an award. When I was inducted into a Sport Hall of Fame I didn't find out for several years. What a relief!)
Amazing talent as always!
Nice
Just remember, Pie are Square
So you packed up all the gear in the basement, so you could go set up and play at the basement. Think about it. What are the odds? Here's a hack next time they put the big-ass X on your hands - simply keep your hands in your pockets when ordering. Your welcome!
all solid points...
I waited so long for her to b legal
Geometry is very useful... if you want to teach geometry. ;) Kinda like philosophy, eh?
hello i don't speak english i am using google translate how can i send you a picture of my dad's battery? it is 8 square meters, it will be my pleasure to show it to you cordially Florian
I want to start band can u give some advice ?
if you learn how to play several instruments it can get you into a lot more situations..
@@miamorrismusic I know how to play guitar
No Coincidence Mia😉🙏
That award was photoshopped. It really said "The Most Missed Days in One Year". haha
Hi Mia. Geometry? Awesome... I barely made it through basic algebra...😜
Nice little update, thanks.
Always happy to see your posts. As always, Say Hi to the folks. See you soon I hope...Have a great weekend...
@@noomoon2833 I am confused. If you are commenting to Mia, then why did you make this a reply to my comment?
That's funny. The most missed days!
allegedly!....
@@miamorrismusic hahaha
Im late mia😭🙏
The Metallica mini cover in the car was awesome.
This girl is seriously only 16?? She's so beautiful and talented... she has a bright future in music.
Mia,
Those shoes look heavy.
You go, girl! Onward and upward.
Poor puppy and his toy.....
Hallo mia
I would rather see you in front with a guitar........don't hate me
I can't believe that both of you neglected your faithful dog who just wanted some playful attention! Music is not more important than showing some love to your pets! This should be the theme of a new song.
Frisco agrees...
Can't say anything good, so...............
Great job on the show! I hope to see you in that venue one day! It's really great that they got it back up and running so quickly. Peace and Love! ✌💗
