One of my instructor's favourite training drills was one person in the middle, rotating 90 degrees and doing various kicks without letting the front foot touch the floor. It was honestly great fun.

my style is a blend of goju and shotokan and we have 2 ways we spar. 1 is open kumite shotokan style (point sparring) 100% power with full control non contact, the other is 50 to 80% contact to the body continuous sparring. the stance of the 2nd style is much like kyokushin or boxing the 1st is like olympic kumite. the only real difference is a wider stance and fully extended and retracted strikes.

This kind of kicking is definitely true for the current Taekwondo. I get sad when I see these floppy things. A proper Taekwondo and Karate kick should not be dissimilar when done correctly. TKD kicks use more rotation and speed. Karate are more linear and focus on impact power. Honestly comes down to a good practitioner who understands the art.

This is why I'm glad my classes taught a wide variety of martial arts. A few of the Masters do Muay Thai, Judo, Karate and even Aikido! We're primarily Taekwondo, but we learn karate techniques as well, and in my branch of the federation, we learn Hapkido and Keomdo!

Older Taekwondo had much more power but now it has become more about speed as that’s the easiest way to get more points when they score you in the Olympics
training in India is more about the power to knockout which also requires speed so if you want the old style go to itf tkd much better more fun as well
Tbh I like karate better because it focuses more on power and taekwondo focuses more on variations of kicks. If i was in a fight i’d chose karate because i’d be able to take out my opponent in a situation quickly and effectively

I hold a 4th dan ITF, 3rd Dan WTF and I haven't had a Karate transfer yet I haven't had to retrain because their kick mechanics were based on speed, not power. Some places focus more on speed for point sparring matches and you see this kind of deficiency.
Out of personal experience and training with dam good karateka, I've seen (and felt) them do a fast kick (that is controlled but still hurts) and be two meters away before you can even try to counter. 😅

Taekwondo focuses on speed first because they have attacks that are one package or a series of combos. that's why they train speed, because they won't be able to do combo attacks with great power its not gonna work, their attacks are powerful but will become slow and they will get tired quickly and their stamina will run out quickly.

If u use kumite while doing the karate it can be stronger and as fast as taekwondo but they have more kick combos and more skill towards kicking due to the fact the mostly only train their legs.

I've been taking karate and taekwondo for 6 years now and I faught one person who was a master it seemed at muay thai. All it took was one kick and he was knocked out because karate mixed with taekwondo is way faster than muay thai
