Excellent tutorial! Back in 1996, when I was 14yrs old. I had front row seats to, David Copperfield’s “Dreams & Nightmare” tour (same as his TV Special.) @ The Martin Beck Theater in, NYC... He performed this trick exactly how he did on TV, & he had monitors for us in audience to see the trick. However, he wasn’t facing the front. His left side face the audience, and being so close, sitting in front row. You can CLEARLY see him taking each indifferent card from the back & pass to the front in order to do the “change”. At 14 years old and a student of magic... I was SO happy to know the secret!
A variation on putting down the four aces: have all of your aces at the bottom of the deck. When you flourish your final ace to be set in the center and square it to the top of the deck, deal from the bottom of the deck. This way, you avoid the aces sticking to the sticky cards.
I love Shin Lim's ace vanish version of this in his 52 shades of red routine. The cards are actually gimmicked in an amazing way that I wont' expose here.
I'd guessed that he was using magnetic cards. Double stick is so much simpler. Takes a lot of practice to do this smoothly, thus I'd rather watch you perform it here over and over. :D
Thank you so much. I taped a special of him doing this ages ago and though i had pretty much figured it out, it was the last vanish that's been bugging me for years. I wasn't familiar with that particular pass until now so now my mind is finally at ease ;-p
I usually produce the Aces like Copperfield does, but I like the other method you recommend at around 7:15 of the video. While I can do the Copperfield/Kenner production fairly consistently, I’m going to add in the other you showed for variety!
I wish I can find the interactive audience trick David copper tried to do for people at home, before commercial break he asked people at home to put 4 queens against the tv screen and that he'll transform them into all Aces. Unfortunately, I had no cards, I drew some on a paper and put them on the screen, he ended up saying those won't work and changed the magic trick. Freaked me out!
For the vanish Copperfield was clearly using his left hand, not the right hand, to make the magic happen. There are multiple ways to remove or replace the top card using the hand holding the deck. You can see Copperfield's left hand doing the preparation moves.
The only difference in the way he did it and the way David Copperfield did it is that the three cards you lay down below the ace at the bottom are face up, not face down. Either way, I love this trick.
This trick is commercially available through Camirand Academy of Magic Inc. and any quality magic store. It's titled, 'A Dream of Aces' by Gary Oullette hosted and also performed by Alain Choquette. This is where I learned how to perform this effect. You're Welcome!
Hey all, I've been doing a bit of research into RUclips algorithms. The reason this is my most popular video may have a good deal more to do with the fact that it's almost 15 minutes long, not that it's my best content. RUclips recommends longer and longer videos to users (see Pew Research link below). If you use RUclips a lot (I do daily), then I would recommend you watch Tom Scott's video on the algorithm (here: ruclips.net/video/leX541Dr2rU/видео.html ) perhaps read a bit on it (Pew Research has some helpful articles: www.pewresearch.org/internet/2018/11/07/many-turn-to-youtube-for-childrens-content-news-how-to-lessons/#an-analysis-of-random-walks-through-the-youtube-recommendation-engine ), and--if you get the chance--watch Werner Herzog's documentary "Lo and Behold" (on Netflix). I'm certainly not an authoritative voice on this issue (research for yourself), but we need to diversify our internet inputs or we'll get pigeon-holed into internet echo chambers. I certainly hope you enjoy the magic, I just thought I'd share some thoughts.
That is a great tutorial, thank you so much! I just have one question that kind of always seems to bug me when I watch explanations like these where the trick uses props: what do you do if your audience wants to examine the cards?? Like what's the excuse for not giving them to the audience? How do you get out of that?
Machoucha Cha I usually do tricks that don't use any gimmicks (95% of the time) so I don't need to bother with that. One thing you can do is tell them of course they can, but you would like to do a few more tricks first and they can see them after and then as you perform more try to look for an opportunity to ditch your gimmicked cards. Remember, you are the performer and you must exude this "I am in charge here" attitude. Never say no to the audience instead direct them to somewhere else or wait until an appropriate time. Be creative. It isn't a bad idea to through in a deck examination during a few times when it doesn't matter so when you move to a gimmicked trick, they will have satisfied their curiosity. Whenever I do the svengali deck I keep another identical regular deck in my pocket. Once the trick is over I put the svengali deck back in the box and in my pocket and if someone asks to see the deck I say 'sure' and pull the regular deck out. Hope that helps, thanks for commenting.
Instead of the double tape, I think is better use the Krylon Mate Finish spray, you can put in the face of the duplicate aces and in the back of the gimmicked card.
+Noah Scahill I'm at college so most of my time is spent studying. I actually don't practice magic very much anymore and only perform occasionally. I try to practice singing 5 hours a week for my voice lessons but it can be spotty. When I have breaks I kind of gorge on my hobbies. I honestly don't have any great tips here, but if you love it, you gotta feed it.
King Robert Remember, magic is not doing sleights or using specific materials. Magic is creating an unbelievable experience for an audience and enjoying it with them. Magic does not happen in my hands, it happens in my audiences mind. And if I want to use or stay away from gimmicks, they will be none the wiser. This isn't set in stone and I may not be right. These are just my thoughts.
Interesting. I had read that he used double stick tape in an article once. Magicians wax may have been the culprit or some rough smooth cards. And I thought double sided was invented in the 1940's. Thanks for commenting.
Are you certain that this is how Copperfield make the trick? Or this is just one method? I believe Copperfield puts all aces facing up before "disappearing" them... Anyways great vids, keep them coming they actually improve competition and better tricks Anything you have on Farquhar?
memokona I don't know how Copperfield does it. This is just a method for a similar plot. I know how Farquhar does his trick that fooled Penn and Teller. I don't think it would be something that most magicians could recreate so I don't think it is worth teaching.
judsongreenemagic thanks! You know..? I just notice something very interesting from DC video, you know, he "shoot" the last ace on top of the half of the deck just like you do in your video, then he put the other half on top... and "sandwich" the ace slightly, roll it and lay it on the board, but he never "square" it, at the moment he slide it to the board the card was already halfway off the deck, how can he make a four drop like that? You know what!? I just figure it out, he made not a four drop from the top but from the bottom! =D
he means that it is a difficult trick, and that nobody can do it like Copperfield. Copperfield has hodden secrets for this trick ;) So like the guy do it in this video, Copperfield dont make it the same ;)
This is an amazing trick and i was happy that i could find out how to do this trick because i love performing it for people, but they are right, its not your to tell. Though i have benefited from this video i feel you should take it down.
L'origine du tour n'est pas de Copperfield mais d'Alain Choquette. David a demander l'autorisation à Alain s'il pouvait le reproduire dans son show, avec une histoire différente et tour légèrement modifié.😉
How do I get my hands to go "off-screen" with my audience who is sitting right in front of me? And can I have the amazing piano bashing music so I can play them while performing? I believe it will mess them up so badly, they will just clap for the act to be over.
Every good card trick has a weakness. The weakness of this trick is showing four cards in plain sight to look like one card. It might work in low quality video (Copperfield), but you'll get busted in real close-up
I am a professional magician and i really dislike other magicians posting tricks on RUclips that just anyone can watch. You obviously care more about hits and likes rather then the magic itself. I think it's horrible you expose tricks like this.
I think you're missing the entire point which is the practice is what allows for a smooth presentation. Some people may say the fun part of magic is the wonder, others may say it's the trying to figure out , how it's done. This tutorial isn't exposing really anything where people know it's a "trick," rather showing a method of how to perform a trick. You still need practice, dexterity, timing and showmanship to sell any magic tricks or illusion. As for "magician's code," never to reveal a trick, how are you going to teach others to pass on without somehow showing how to. You can argue that someone doesn't "deserve," to learn an advanced card trick like this but reality is, someone is eventually either going to figure it out or make a very similar trick using different means. This tutorial is just a basis and you can as he mentioned do your own twist. I read other comments where someone says it's okay to "show, how it's done if people are "paying," giving it value. To me, the value is not always monetary. Also, the comment on "not yours," to give, is ridiculous. Unless the person came up with specific equipment designed for the trick I fail to see how a deck of card, double sided tape would constitute "copyright infringement," or stealing someone's patent.
Darth Rabbit The ethics behind the magicians code is to respect the secret by not revealing it. If you want to learn magic then that's fine but do the way all respectable performers do it by going to a magic store and BUYING a book that teaches you the fundamentals. Learning the basics teaches you that time and effort are required to learn any routine. These videos are fine if the performance is the only aspect of it but when you expose the method you not only destroy the mystery behind it but you also destroy the routine for many performers who use it in order to earn a living. Has that thought ever crossed your mind? This is about ethics and respect. If you watch a magic special on tv and you're really interested in knowing how it's done, go and buy the routine for yourself. When you spent weeks or months perfecting it you suddenly adopt a new respect for what you just accomplished. How would you feel if you devoted months to mastering the routine and the very first time you perform it somebody shouts "hey, I know how you did that.......", and then proceed to explain it while you are standing there? Would you appreciate that? I doubt it. You would be very upset about the money you now wasted on a routine that everybody knows the secret to. You won't be performing that routine again. Some of these magic illusions have existed for hundreds of years and have been guarded by magicians for generations in order to perform and entertain the public. Today, very few people have respect for traditions. The attitude today is "I can do whatever I want because it's my right". Wrong, people who expose magic are NOT magicians. They are nothing but selfish hacks who are looking for attention by destroying the hard work of others. Nothing more. When I started out learning magic I would approach other magicians for help. I would never expose anything to anybody and that rule still applies today. What's the point of having magicians perform for people if everybody knows in advance how an illusion works? Secrets are secret for a reason.
***** Adapted to the digital world? You clearly didn't read my comment because the "digital age" has nothing to do with the ethics involved in magic. You failed to comment on why big name performers no longer tour or make tv specials. Clearly, if they had no issue with this as you clearly don't, they wouldn't have ceased to do both. Also, if you find no issue with this type of video then explain why so many magic creators have gone out of business? Either you are completely naïve about what has happened to magic, or, you are one of those who goes out of their way to help continually destroy magic and enjoys doing it. So, which one of these two options represents you? No self respecting magician would ever expose any trick to anybody simply for the reason because the fewer people who know how it's done the stronger the effect is. Just because times are changing means nothing. This is simply an excuse to continue destroying what has been irreparably damaged. Unless you are able to comment on all of my previous points, you have no valid defence.
Sorry just too much going on on this video. He put the cards all together multiple times in between explaining this and didn’t really explain where the cards were and kind of jumped around a little. Just saying it was hard to follow, but thank you. I kinda go it. Didn’t make it all the way threw the video
Please remove this video, it's not good to see that years of work to create magical moments are destroyed in a few minutes by people making tutorial, please remove this video
Lance514 Lol. Yup. Magic is dead now cause 300k people know how Copperfield’s dream of aces routine is done. I guess You’ll have to throw out all your cards and thumb tips and book tests now.
Damien, you are wrongly assuming I didn't know how to perform this trick. I was not curious about the mechanics of the trick, I was curious to see if the person revealing the trick would show his face in the video. He didn't, of course. The explanation of the trick is really poor, it says nothing about how to stage the performance, it explains nothing about how magic works. The genius of David Copperfield resides in the cure for detail, his demeanor, the story, the music (and many more secrets of live performance), not just his technical skills (which are amazing). None of these appear in this video, just an insufficient mechanical explanation. The person that recorded this video does not have the skills to perform magic, he is not a magician. This is just poor performance in exchange of a few youtube likes.
toquinho79 Brother, I understand your frustration. However, this is the nature of the internet. There is no way to stop exposure, period. Magic will just eventually have to evolve into whatever is next for the art like it has for generations.
To borrow a grammarian's analogy, I'm a descriptivist not a prescriptivist. Usage determines meaning. Effect, not method, determines the magic. I never teach magic the way the right way--just a way. There are probably better methods than mine, but this one works for me. Thanks for watching.

Brilliant performance and tutorial!
I love the fact that even when you know how it is done, the illusion still prevails. Good work!!
Awesome trick and great tutorial!
Like this trick ! great demonstration !!!
Wow that was nicely explained,Thank You
awesome trick and good explained!

Big THX for this tutorial omg I couldn’t figure it out
I love Shin Lim's ace vanish version of this in his 52 shades of red routine. The cards are actually gimmicked in an amazing way that I wont' expose here.
If I learned this trick I could be considered the goat round here
I'd guessed that he was using magnetic cards. Double stick is so much simpler.

Well done
No matter what You show , coperfield is magician anyway
very good handling i bet your even better in 2019 and soon 2020
David Coperfild is inigualable!!!
Try using a pinky count to ready the three other aces for when you lay down the Ace of Spades.
I usually produce the Aces like Copperfield does, but I like the other method you recommend at around 7:15 of the video. While I can do the Copperfield/Kenner production fairly consistently, I’m going to add in the other you showed for variety!
Pretty good attempt. I can also de the move you did on 0:29, but not many people can so that
Piet Fortun Pop Out Move. Learn it. Love it. Credit it.
Thanks for saving me from having to do it. Lol
Amazing tutorial really

Ricky Jay: 4 Queens 3 Ways tutorial, please
Could you make a tutorial of spongeball tricks? To let them vanish andere appear
Thanks a lot! Like your video's very much
The four card pinkybreak in beginning was obvious but cool performance :)
awesome dude
The only difference in the way he did it and the way David Copperfield did it is that the three cards you lay down below the ace at the bottom are face up, not face down. Either way, I love this trick.
Cool Kodak magical
¿Alguien que sepa español y que pueda explicarme para qué sirven los trozos de cinta que les pega en el reverso de las cartas? 2:30 ¡Gracias!

Hallow bro... The tape that you use was double tap isnt it? Thank for your video.. Now I know how to do this magic trick.
very good God Bless ps that music herbert lawerance becker sang on a record before
Cool and next Copperfields going to make the Moon vanish

he does the tuturial wrong u dont need double side tape but he is pretty good
Great!
Instead of the double tape, I think is better use the Krylon Mate Finish spray, you can put in the face of the duplicate aces and in the back of the gimmicked card.
Like an invisible deck?
thanks sir....
Whats the Name of the Music?
+Nico Willner I haven't named it. Just a little piano tune I made up.
+judsongreenemagic I'm having trouble balancing music practice and magic practice. How do you find time for both very time consuming activities?
+Noah Scahill I'm at college so most of my time is spent studying. I actually don't practice magic very much anymore and only perform occasionally. Thanks for the tutorial...I never knew DC would stoop so low as to use a cheap gimmick like double sided tape!
King Robert Remember, magic is not doing sleights or using specific materials. Magic is creating an unbelievable experience for an audience and enjoying it with them. judsongreenemagic When DC performed this illusion they hadn't even invented double sided tape!
Interesting. I had read that he used double stick tape in an article once. Magicians wax may have been the culprit or some rough smooth cards. And I thought double sided was invented in the 1940's. Thanks for commenting.
I wasn't being serious, Jud. I would have preferred he used a magnetic card.
Oops. Mah bad.

Pretty fuckin' impressive!
Name of the song anyone? Seems familiar..
tnx man :P

he means that it is a difficult trick, and that nobody can do it like Copperfield. Copperfield has hodden secrets for this trick ;) So like the guy do it in this video, Copperfield dont make it the same ;)
whats the name of the move to appear the aces?
Bullet Aces
+Geldrith Draco also called hot shot aces
A similar tutorial on a million card tricks channel. If you could find it i recommend to watch it though he doesn't teach how to make the gimmicks
This is an amazing trick and i was happy that i could find out how to do this trick because i love performing it for people, but they are right, its not your to tell. Though i have benefited from this video i feel you should take it down.
iam from Indonesia
The name of the move to appear the aces is Pop up
The name of the move is Bullet Aces
The method of producing the aces is called the Piet Forton pop out move.

Dc routine did not put 3 aces on top but below and using pinky break to steal it
the aces are in his palm all along ..
Funny how this looks similar to shin lim's routine
Sick trick but disappointment with clone aces
jeez that deck looks small in your hands
How do I get my hands to go "off-screen" with my audience who is sitting right in front of me?
And can I have the amazing piano bashing music so I can play them while performing? I believe it will mess them up so badly, they will just clap for the act to be over.
You're going to learn how to do it right before you perform it for people right?
😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩
01:13 i can see the card under the 9 :)
his load of the 3 cards is completely different...
Every good card trick has a weakness. The weakness of this trick is showing four cards in plain sight to look like one card. It might work in low quality video (Copperfield), but you'll get busted in real close-up
Very true. Also, I look back at this one and am annoyed at how obvious that part of the trick is done. (Did I know how to pinky count?)
Copperfield hesitates at that point, too. such a shame 'cos it's such a beautiful effect, but it's loaded up the wazzoo
I hate that pop out move also, don’t like seeing it done it give me anxiety..lol
close but not enough... mon ami
It's a tutorial braino! Very well explained and for 'learning' purposes, which is the heading, it is very nicely exposed.

Cool thanks so much God Bless everyone InChrist always chubby billpage illusionist magician in fun
Copperfield does not square up the fourth ace with the deck
I rather perform Ricky Jay ace trick
U proved that u use Ur brain often

Just saying it was hard to follow, but thank you. I kinda go it. Didn’t make it all the way threw the video
Your 11:41 vanish is trash...David's 2nd and 3rd vanish make more sense and are easy
russkaine what are those vanishes called?
Never trust a magician.
wax man its done with wax
You cant do this. Copperfield showed another level. You just show what you can do and its so childish way.
wtf?
Please remove this video, it's not good to see that years of work to create magical moments are destroyed in a few minutes by people making tutorial, please remove this video
+Cory Burns Amen. Once people know some secretes it makes it so much more special

Come up with new stuff....lol
можно на русском?
Ladies and gentleman, Magic is dead because of fools like this guy exposing it. Apparently the new magicians code is to get likes on a video . 🙄

Lol. Yup. Magic is dead now cause 300k people know how Copperfield’s dream of aces routine is done. I guess You’ll have to throw out all your cards and thumb tips and book tests now.
Trickk and magic ..sorry
Only a really frustrated (and bad) magician would reveal magic tricks like this for an ephemeral instant of anonymous attention.
or maybe it's because it's for educational purposes?
but you looked about this trick. you were curious how to perform this trick ;)
Magic will just eventually have to evolve into whatever is next for the art like it has for generations.
pretty sure you pay for it and now you're mad because its free for us mad kid mad life actually hes good at it ;)
That’s not the way it’s done
To borrow a grammarian's analogy, I'm a descriptivist not a prescriptivist. Usage determines meaning. Effect, not method, determines the magic. I never teach magic the way the right way--just a way. There are probably better methods than mine, but this one works for me. Thanks for watching.
this is not it , but very nice try
