For those of you having trouble, the setup can be any group of cards you wish to use; simply tailor the prediction to that group. Should be around half the deck or so. As long as the spectator gets that group and you get the rest, and you follow the procedure as given, then the setup stack will be face up at the end (assuming you turn over the spectators cards before shuffling them back into yours), The trick works because any cards that the spectator give to you (from the setup stack) get turned face up when they come over to "your side", and any cards of yours get turned face up when they go over to his side. If some of his cards on your side (which are face up) get handed back to him, they get turned over and become face down again. The shuffling and where the cards are located makes no difference. At the end, when the spectator's cards get turned over, you are facing up any of his remaining original cards (the stack), and turning face down any of your original cards. Thus all of his (the stack) will be face up at the end, and all of your original, indifferent cards will be face down. Try it with a small handful of red backed and red faced cards and a few blue backed black cards, using one color as the "stack" and the other as the indifferent cards and you'll see how it works.
So it is a little like the old 'wine and water' mixing puzzle (glass of wine, equal glass of water, take a spoonful of water and put it in the water, take a spoonful of the water-wine mixture and put it into the wine. Is there more water in the wine than wine in the water, or vice versa? Think about it. Hey, use playing cards to simulate it!).

The magician should never perform a trick he hasn't practiced for several hours over and over again. This holds true for even the simplest tricks you know, until you can perform them without thinking. Then you can focus on your patter and presentation without worrying about the trick.
I like to write there will be 25 cards. Then write there will be 15 red cards. Then write all the cards leftover will be clubs. Then when the spade is pointed out, I tell them to look in their pocket or wherever I stuck a note on them earlier. Seems to work really well. I don't know why people freak out when you plant shit on them, but they do every time.

If you live with someone it's not hard to plant the last piece of paper in their jeans pocket or somewhere; you just have to have a good idea of what they might wear that day. Did the trick that evening and she almost fell over.

great trick. I did it at a party. I was going to just fold the paper as in the video, but before I did the trick, one of my friends (Simon) left his phone on the kitchen while he visited the bathroom. I sent him a text message saying, 'except the Ace of Spades.' He didn't hear the beep as the message arrived. At the end of the trick, of course one of my other friends pointed out the Ace of Spades. In front of everyone I said to Simon, "I mentioned that you you earlier, didn't I?" Of course he said "No". I replied, "That's right, I couldn't find you, so texted you instead...can you just check your messages?" Of course, everyone was amazed when he read out the text!
Thanks so much mate. People like you are an inspiration and so generous. Giving something as brilliant as this, and not asking for anything back. Doesn't happen too often nowadays.
Mr. Owen states that you should fan the cards, looking for the setup stack, and then turn over the deck if necessary to orient the setup cards face down. In fact, if the procedure is followed as described, the setup stack will always be face up, necessitating a turnover of the deck. Another option would be for the performer to turn over his own packet instead, as this would orient the setup face down. Or make the prediction of how many cards are face up, instead. As a side note, it is unfortunate that this is labeled as "The Card Trick That Cannot Be Explained", as this name actually refers to a Dai Vernon routine, well known in the magic community, that is completely unrelated to this trick.
Dude this is beautiful, not the best color of video, but the song and voice over is just perfect. The trick is simple and easy, I really love your work.

One thing I would change is to not put the "Except for the Ace of Spades" as a separate piece of paper. People said to me that that was a "spare" prediction in case it happened and didn't believe it was meant to happen...I changed it to be written when unfolding the paper again on the main piece and people didn't say anything then
I like this...thank you so much. By chance, is there someone...we can give credit for trick, its origin or maybe a book. I wonder how far back this goes, this is one of several things I like about magic...finding the first person who came up with it.
In fact the secret is rather simple, and has nothing to do with numbers 10 or 15, or with spades versus hearts. I think the 15 red cards are used only to make the impression that the spectator's pile is random (and not, say of merely black cards). The reason the trick works is this: all the cards from the spectator's pile are turned upside down when on the magician's pile, and are back to normal when they come back to the original pile. The same can be said about the cards in the magician's pile. As a result of last turning all the cards that were originally in the spectator's pile are turned upside down, and those on the magician's pile are not.
I have always loved magic, especially card tricks, I know quite alot of card tricks and love doing them. This one is brilliant, never seen it before and I cannot wait to try it out. Thanks

This effect can be greatly magnified by performing a force on a spectator using the Ace of Spades as the force card, then have them write "Except the (and the forced Ace of Spades)". The spectator will think they had selected a random card, which adds another layer of impossibility to the effect.
My family is the "I WATCH YOU" type so here is some tips that I used: 1.Give them the prediction and tell them to put it in their pocket or put a cup on it so you can't change it 2.After you found the jokers(they can take that too if they want to because my sister wanted it)make them choose from the two decks of cards 3.After you and they shuffle the cards, offer them that they can shuffle yours too and you won't touch their cards 4.Tell them to choose a number and this will be the number of how many times you shuffle the cards(tell them to be low,my mother choose 21 at first...) 5.Let them cut the cards wherever they want to 6.Again,offer them to shuffle your cards too 7.Let them count the cards too if they are curious 8.Let them read the prediction(tell them to read one at a time) With these they can't argue with you about changing this or that.(Ps:I'm not english, sorry for the mistakes)

And be aware that you have to count the cards when the ace of spades is turned upside down, as mentioned in the video! Hope I explained it, if not, message me again if you didnt get it!
I did this trick for a friend, but I took the small piece of paper with the Ace of Spades on & I secretly put it in my friends pocket about an hour before I did the trick for him. I made a point of staying away from him until the trick was done. He was so shocked 😂 his face was priceless 😳

if you do the preparation well then you should be doing something wrong when you shuffle or ask the spectator to shuffle! You have to turn half of your deck around before shuffling with the spectators cards. And be aware that you have to count the cards when the ace of spades is turned upside down, as mentioned in the video! Hope I explained it, if not, message me again if you didnt get it!
@Diogo Miranda
Do you have to give exactly half of your deck?
@@audreykoek5035 no, it works with as much as you'd like
Tnx!! You made me 2nd runner-up!!!
Congrats!
Oscar Owen thank you so much!!!!
I did this trick for a friend, but I took the small piece of paper with the Ace of Spades on & I secretly put it in my friends pocket about an hour before I did the trick for him. I made a point of staying away from him until the trick was done. He was so shocked 😂 his face was priceless 😳
At 3:56 you can see Oscar Owen skip a black card throughout the pile so their would be 11 black cards, take a look closely!
Nope!
Oscar Owen my bad then 😅 must of seen wrong, sorry about that.
