Hi Thomas. Many thanks for the kind words. I’m hoping to do a little live video sometime soon on TikTok showing off my very best finds over the years. I’ll put a post up well in advance to forewarn people it’ll be coming on one weekend!
Yes. I always figured the longer you go without a gold coin the more likely you are to find one as the law of averages moved in your favour... still didn’t think it would take 20yrs mind you!!
Wonderful gold coin! Well deserved after 20 years of detecting! I found a 6th century gold coin just after two years of detecting. And now seven years later, I still have just one! 😄👍

Haters gonna hate gladamgone. If I was planting it I think I’d have done it 20 years ago! And the coin comes out clean because it’s gold... it doesn’t rust, it doesn’t tarnish, because it’s gold and that’s why gold for millennia has been so precious 😉
Ok I think after 40+ I'm entitled to make this statement. I have found 6 gold coins over the decades 1 hammered and 5 milled and numerous other gold items, all from intensiveley worked arable fields. All the milled came out with scratches or scuffs one of the half sovereigns slightly bent with a serious ding but one or two were ok however the tiny thin fragile gold hammered came out in pristine A1 VF not a single scratch on, nothing even under magnification. So to say that a gold coin has been planted just because its in good unscratched condition is simply wrong, its pure luck from an arable field and it does happen. The first thing I noticed was the condition of the coin, did I doubt it, not for one second. One more thing I see a couple of posts about cleaning gold in the field, wet wipes? If you can run water over it in the field, thats ok but never rub, dont even wipe because the soil or mud is abrasive and WILL scratch the gold.
@gladamgone I’ve not been so lucky as to find gold ‘every week’ you must be an incredibly wealthy man. You’re entitled to your opinions. Some people in life just can’t be happy for someone else and for that I feel great pity but ultimately I’m not going to change your mind and I bow to your expertise, but ultimately I’m happy with the coin and apologise profusely for finding a coin that is in your opinion in too good a condition not to be have been faked. Having never found a gold coin before I’ve no idea how I should or shouldn’t expect it to look. As for mud appearing and or disappearing .... 🤷🏻♂️
Congrats. I hope I don't have to wait 20 years for a gold coin. I've only been detecting for 3 years her in Canada. Wish I could detect in Scotland. So much history there.

The 1939 shilling would be 50% silver. I remember the 1970’s in my teens getting into coin collecting and even then, post-decimalisation, regularly coming across sixpence, shillings and florins from pre-war years in general circulation - they were probably barely worth more than face value as silver prices were obviously very low.
