    Sprinkle a bit of water on the tortillas if they don't puff up. My Honduran mother in law taught me that trick.

    Good tips! And, will try with flour. Another tip for ya: plastic bags for produce from grocery stores work great...no stick, no tear, easy to peel off tortilla and FREE (repurpose)!

      I use the gallon zip lock bags. Cut the zipper and bottom/sides of one bag. Cut into a circle big enough for your press and Viola!

Because of this video, I’m heading off to make these right now and feel so confident that I will be successful!

    Ma'am. Ty so much, hybrid tortillas are not talked about enough. The long cooking shots don't fit the zeitgeist, but that's what we need! Why hasn't this blown up??

  • @cahorowit
    @cahorowit 3 года назад +7

    It worked!! It even puffed up!!
    I had been having many issues. You identified the problem so clearly. I cut down the water a slight bit and all the problems with sticking to plastic my hand doubling over putting it in the pan.... all ended today! Watched this video last night and tried it today.
    Than you SO much

    That's a good tip about smells getting into the tortillas. I hand wash my kitchen towels that I use in direct contact with food, or use to season my cast iron. Like my nut milk bags because don't want soap or fabric softener taste.
    I have one of those exact tortilla boxes I don't use stored somewhere. I like using my ceramic covered pie dish, keeps tortillas warm a little longer than the plastic box.
    Now I want to go make another batch. I found it was somehow relaxing. More than rolling out flour tortillas. But I also just want to try your method of adding regular flour. I have an electric griddle I bet would fit two at a time.
    Do you ever make dough then refrigerate some of the balls for later? I saw someone do that on a video and wondered if it really saves any time.

    • @HangingOutWithChristy
      @HangingOutWithChristy  4 года назад

      I saw that too, about refrigerating them, I haven't tried it yet. But, I think the next time I mix up my dough I will pop one in a plastic bag and see what happens!! Normally I need all the tortillas to feed everyone! Let me know if you get stuck! Rolling out flour tortillas is always an adventure and we don't have them enough for me to get really good at making them round, so I just aim for large rectangles !! heehehe Corn tortiallas are so much more easier and faster !! :)

    Hi Christy, your information and techniques are very helpful and very well explained. Thank you for sharing this information and teaching us. Should we add salt ? If so, how much salt?

    • @HangingOutWithChristy

      Good question! I don't add salt, but it would depend on how much your mix is. Start with 1/2 tsp or less and see how it turns out. Best of luck and let me know what you find ❤️

    This is what I call tortillas training. Using only corn flour or maseca can be very temperamental. I can not make them without it drying out. I have found out that using the yellow maseca, it is much easier to work with without needing the flour. Try it out! I love the squish test!

      for the smaller burner I use almost med-high heat and for the bigger burner med or a little above med heat and I leave it same the whole time.... but if your tortillas are getting too brown/black before they can finish cooking, then you know to turn it down a little and check :) Best of luck ! and let me know how it goes !! I wonder how this will work with whole grain flour. Well, since whole grain flour needs a bit more water when baking bread I'm sure it will need a bit more water for these tortillas. Can't wait to try them!

      When I used the electric grill I set it to the highest temp.... I think that the skillets for the stovetop cook them faster and they are softer.... right now I bought two cast iron skillets for tortillas off Amazon...
