Lies of P is the newest Souslike game developed by Neowiz, Honestly I was shocked about how much I enjoyed this game. Lies of P has some issues though in its levels, gameplay, and bosses, should you buy Lies of P? Is Lies of P even good? This will be a full review of Lies of P and an analysis of the gameplay and design.

The way to fix %90 of the problems of the game is simple:
    1. Increase the parry window from 8 frames to 12 like Sekiro
    2.Increase the distance dodging has
3.Add poise to charge attacks and some legion arms
4.Decrease the recocery frames of the player
It wouldn’t solve the weird enemy attacks with no cues and decent telegraphy but at least would compensate to make the combat less clunky

Agree with no 1 but no 2 to 4 honestly I don't have any problem with that , the dodges is already fine you just need good timing like monsters swamp grab attacks are simple easy to dodges by dodges back or forward, the game is already has Poise everytime you do Fable Art, , I guess you just one of those peeps that don't even try

1 - Hard disagree. The parry window in this game feel very rewarding and intuitive once you get used to it.
2 - Disagree. As long as you are aware of the direction of an attack you can easily dodge through it and even then your primary system of protection is more-so the parry than the dodge. I learned this during the scrapped watchman fight and it remained the case throughout the entire game.
3 - Hyper-armor has been added to fable attacks but I do not think it should be added to charged attacks: these are up to you to time well, as are the legion arms.
4 - I don't think this is necessary but I also don't think it could entirely hurt either.

    • @kingoftheives3488
      @kingoftheives3488 Месяц назад

@@trintavon the game has shitty party timing. If you perfect guard right before the hit lands (like how every other game does parrying) you’ll get hit. The game tells you to perfect guard after theyve finished the wind up of their attack which has got to be the least intuitive and least rewarding and worst feeling parry.

  • @wassabee9174
    @wassabee9174 7 месяцев назад +3

Finally someone talks about the weird boss timings in this game, thanks. Also gotta mention some of the bosses (some puppet king attacks, the corrupted watchman, some other I forgot) just kinda....... flail around? Like, okay, which one of these little wiggly moves is an attack, or all they all an attack? And if they're all an attack, is it even possible to parry? It's too long of a combo to just hold parry, and the attacks happen to fast to spam parry, and for people who do like to try parrying it's just a "have you tried not trying" moments

I also ran a strength build and though I didn't feel "weak," I realized that the advantages of a strength build are, counter-intuitively, defensive. See, the damage outputs between dex and str are not as high as in most other games - in fact, some of the more powerful dex weapons nearly match str weapons while being faster and consuming less stamina. But where the str weapons have a giant advantage is in blocking - the big str weapons can block up to about 80% physical, while the dex weapons are usually in the 20-40% range. Meanwhile, the increased staggerability is more about affording the time to safely buff/heal/repair in combat than about doing massive crit damage. Even still, I found the game easier to play Souls style than Sekiro style - using the dodge as the primary defensive tool and only blocking when necessary.
I also feel like the game's base dodge is very underwhelming and the "double dodge" which you can buy with quartz fairly early on is really what the base dodge should have been. I found the left arms mostly worthless, especially the shield, which has a delayed timing to it which made it very hard for me to block reliably. I agree that the late game is weak, but not necessarily cause of balance, but more cause of pacing - the last few chapters are just too long. Also the story goes off the rails at that point and the game just felt kind of silly to me. The pacing issue also affected character progression, as you probably find 3/4 of the game's quartz in the last 1/4 of the game - it would have been nice to build up more progressively. Despite all these technical nitpicks, I did really enjoy the game quite a bit.

  • @lyxandergarcia5623

motivity builds in this game are very strong because of the fact that you can stagger bosses easily and deal huge damage per stagger, try using the holy sword of ark start your fight with the extended handle and then when the boss is staggered transition to the smaller handle and use the fable art of the blade, you can deal 3500 to 4500 damage on a singe hit depending on your stats and weapon level.

Great review! Did you actually play through the whole game without using any of the specialized legion arms? All of the videos don't have any of the different arms equipped. I totally agree that how you choose to play makes a huge difference. I started with a strength build, but it didn't feel like I wanted it to, so I switched to an Advance build (lets call it Magic) and that was AMAZING to play. I suck at these games, so it is a miracle as far as I am concerned that I even made it to act 8 where I am now, but I have LOVED this game so far. It has been super friendly to someone like me using an Advance build because, with the right one of 3 easy to get weapons, I do so much damage to the bosses AND all of my status effect throwables do massive damage as well. One of the biggest discoveries I had though was the shot put. I was finding getting a charged hit off on a boss once they were vulnerable to be quite challenging, so I just stepped back and threw a shot put and BAM staggered.
I am both excited and a bit nervous about hitting the end game if everything goes to crap with too many basic mobs, but if I can make it there, this will be the first souls-like I ever complete. So, I hope that I can do it. And then there is NG+...

I’ve beaten Lies of P three times and am in love with it. I am shocked at the mixed reception it is getting. I think most people are trying to play their tried and true claymore build and get mad that they can’t win like every fromsoft game. I found this game to be incredibly fun and engaging when going for faster paced weapons with the Two Dragon sword being my favorite weapon in any souls game I’ve ever used. The game demands a lot from its players, but my second New Game play through had me beating almost every boss on the first try so it clearly isn’t overly punishing or unfair.

I went from spending 3+ hrs on a boss to 1hr or less. Why? was it because I got gud, nope its because this game has serious combat balance issues which the OP is explaining here. I suspect you were lucky enough to find a build that worked for you early on and that made your experience very enjoyable but not everyone was able to find that hence why so many ppl have issues w/ the game.

Fair review. I have to say my first Playthrough was a Strength build, and I definitely found myself having a tougher time. My second play through was technique, and I was melting some of the bosses. I had a problem with before I attest some of it to be of course the fact I already played through the game and mastered most of the enemies move sets and the combat. I did notice with a technique build. I would do slightly less damage, but I was able to get in and do less damage, but more of it in a shorter span. So that’s why strength builds probably feel a little more difficult.

Your problem with the strength build was the weapon choice. I first played the game with a dex build and it was fine when I realized that I should be dodging and not parrying. Then I did a Str one and tried parrying most things since those weapons have good block values. Starting with the Str weapon and used it until I got the Holy Sword of the Ark. It's slower but it hit so fucking hard. Finding an opening to use a fully charged heavy attack felt so good. It also dealt great damage, almost always staggered, and quickly broke the enemy's posture. I added Shot Puts to easily get the enemy into the broken state since landing a fully charged heavy attack with that thing is not something you can fit anywhere.
That weapon also has a fast mode, and a fable art that when fully charged deals absurd amounts of damage (and it has poise while charging).

The balance is busted, i will agree but its not like there are unviable weapons, maybe unviable weapon combinations. I look at it the same kind of busted balancing as fromsoft games. tbh. Not saying that better balancing shouldn't be there. I used the spring sword and Mjolnir hammer with shovel handle both str weapons and i had i fine time, i did an ng+ run with dex after as a comparison. There's a comparison that the heavier strength weapons have better damage reduction when you're blocking, with the lighter weapons too many incorrect parries will leave you in a dangerous position especially in ng+.
Just as there are strong dex options, there are strong str and advance options too. About the bosses having inflated hp, i have to disagree with that because.. element is extremely strong in this game. Like laxasasia's first phase is cripplingly weak to acid. Using strike vs slash damage also makes a decent difference on the enemy type, the game gives you a lot of upgrade mats to at least have 2 weapons upgraded and more to buy from shops etc.

But after 4 playthroughs (NG and NG+) I find this game to be addictive. The parrying does get easier and tbh I think people are too focussed on adopting either a Sekiro play style OR a Bloodborne play style, rather than combining both (knowing when to parry and when to dodge) which makes things much easier. It’s a little too close to Soulsborne and doesn’t dare to be as adventurous as the likes of Remnant and The Surge, but sometimes it’s better not to stray too far from the path like Nioh (which is a game I loathe). I think it has some of the best boss fights outside of Soulsborne, Laxasia, Simon, The Puppet King and Scrapped Watchman are all fantastic.

Besides my gripes with the annoying parry timing, the game seemed so good and the bosses were well designed and had proper audio and visual queues but once you get to the last quarter of the game, you get annoying enemies, bosses that are borderline unfair and overall it just feels like a pain to finish the game off at that point! 1) FS games get plenty of criticism. If anything this game is held to a much lower standard because it was expected to be mediocre like most other blatant ripoffs 😂 fromsoft games have high expectations every single time.
      2) Lies of P may as well have a fromsoft logo on it considering it's just an amalgamation of fromsoft game philosophy with no identity of its own. The MAIN compliment people were giving it for the longest time is that "you could tell me fromsoft made this and I would believe it." That speaks volumes to how this game wouldn't even EXIST without fromsoft teaching these scrubs at neowiz how to make a proper game first. Look at their catalog and you'll see DOZENS of cheap titles that most people have never heard of going back decades - and then you'll see Lies of P towering above everything else.... it's almost like without copying the FS formula, they could never break through.

Motivity weapons do great damage, you were probably using a shitty handle just because it had better scaling. i use the dancers curved sword handle and although it's not the best scaling with a maxed out blade i smack everything. and the movest of that handle is one of if not the best i've come across in the game.

Imo lies is a balanced blend of dark souls, sekiro and bloodborne. I don’t find the linear levels bad perse. I think my only criticism is that some of the mini bosses (mad clown, illusion lady) gave me more trouble than legendary bosses. And that the very last hidden boss required I change my p organ and take a totally sekiro stance as every boss up until it I was fighting more of a souls-bloodborne style. But overall it’s great and I wouldn’t change much. Be cool if one or two boss weapons were advanced scaling for sure. Nothing major. The difficulty was on point for a soulsborne veteran.

In the last tiers of the game, i've played and enjoyed the game with parry/dodge & arms mechanics and it worked pretty well for me. The main issue for me is that you can't dodge & use yours proshetics arms max out before the end of the game so you relied on Parry like i did and you're right. You can be frustating for the reason you mentioned. Great souls like anyway better suited for NG+ 👌

My biggest problem with the game is the lack of hyper armor. If you're using a slower weapon it's really discouraging to constantly have your hits canceled out because the enemy hit you first. Even if I'm coming in with a big heavy swing full of momentum, a random enemy can stop me in my tracks with a little poke. If this were balanced a little better it would go a long way to improve the combat overall.

Thankfully they patched it to where you're able to do that earlier on now.
But once I was able to spec into a Dex build the game got a lot better. You do virtually the same damage as a dex build but you attack much faster.
They need to buff all heavy weapons to make them viable or they need to buff the stagger hit damage.

It's definitely a good game that had a lot of love and care poured into it, the technical aspects are impressive. With that said, this game frustrated the heck out of me, to the point that when I finished it, instead of wanting to run through it again, I felt relieved, and like I never wanted to touch it again, I had the same feeling when I finished Sekiro. It was a lot of little annoyances that just added up for me, why does every boss need to have regenerating health? Why does every boss need a second phase?
Why did they not give us ranged attacks outside of throwables? Which are admittedly very powerful, but also a consumable I have to farm or buy. And then the weapon system, it presents itself as a very versatile system, but that's really an illusion, the handle needs to scale with your main stat, and even though you can use a crank to change scaling, it never gets scaling up to a decent level, so the system is actually very rigid, I had an advanced build, and I only found a handful of valid handles I could use throughout the play through, and _not one boss weapon in the entire game_ scales with advance, why?

Motivity was poorly thought out, which just sucks.
Half the game is a joke with 1 specific build, and the other half is a painful slog where everything is 3x faster than a single attack you the player can make.
Add to that they clearly wanted to be different by avoiding hyperarmor and poise (while giving it to like every other puppet and human) which just goes to show they should have stuck with technique weapons and left the heavy ones to FromSoft's design team.

Beat the game on regular new game twice now. First run motivity and second run technique. With the weapon assemble feature, along with altering handles, I don’t think there’s much difference in difficulty. You can have a big weapon that swings stupid fast. Like the pipe wrench with a curved sword handle. Now boss weapons are kind of unbalanced and are mostly technique heavy. Seems like the best are tech weapons for sure.

I beat the game and living puppet with the Frozen Feast, and sure it was fun staggering big slow enemies, but it was very frustrating to fight enemies that could:
      1. Attack faster than me
      2. Poise their way through my own slow heavy attacks to shove their arm up my ass to use me as their puppet!

Slow large enemies like the brutes in the arcade seem to have less stagger resistance, so motivity weapons are great for farming them, but miniboss jesters and clowns, carcasses in general take so long to stagger it's more of a novelty than an advantage.

Coming from someone who’s in playthrough 9, let me make it clear. If they didn’t do anything to new game plus, this game would be probably a 6/10. However, most of my complaints of the game went away in new game plus, not because I was getting better at the game(that helps, but it’s not the main reason), but it’s because new game plus gives you so many ways to deal with the annoyances. Bosses and levels that I didn’t enjoy too much because of all the stuff they throw in feel so much better and fun in new game plus. It’s sad to see some people don’t go into new game plus cause they don’t want to re experience the hell they went through. But this game goes from a 6/10 to a 8.5-9/10 just in new game plus. Hot take, but besides elden ring, this is my favorite souls game(not souls like, even though it’s a mimic) I played dark souls 3 and really enjoyed it, I played bloodborne and found it boring(I’m sorry but the design of the game didn’t stick with me), but I love this game so much. Such as rolling during the current roll, rolling after being knocked to the ground, increase belt item slots and some other ones
Just remember that Fromsoft games had these abilities without needing upgrades which made the game feel way better to play
And don't even get started on "but ng+ gives you more abilities", if ng+ is the excuse needed to have a good experience when thats how the game should've been experience in ng then it's simply a way to make the players play the game more and its not a good way

None of the new game+ abilities are abilities you need to get a better experience; they are new, or repeat benefits that simply reward and help buff you for the further dangers of new game+. The "default" abilities you speak of are really just the two roll upgrades, which aside from being easy to get relatively early into the game, are the only two you can really call default. The extra belt item slots are by no means a necessity (I literally used 1 belt slot for my heals and 1 for the grindstone the entire game and never felt this was a problem) and every other upgrade are just that: upgrades. Extra flasks, more healing from flasks, bigger stagger windows. I don't see at all where you got the idea that you need to get into ng+ to get default abilities, I really don't. So I actually wonder if you've even played the game.

The game was really fun and really well made but it didn’t feel new in a way. The best part is the aesthetic. My overall rating is a 7/10
