27:01 Thank you for pointing this out! Too many people give Geppetto a pass for what he did because 'he missed his son and it was out of love' and they don't realize how at the end of the day, he only wanted to make himself feel better. Rather than reflect on his actions and let his son rest in peace, he chose to defile him (both his body and his memory) and 'fix' him into his own version. He didn't love Carlo, he loved the IDEA of Carlo. And in turn he only valued the idea of P, which is why he rejected P the moment he didn't obey his command. Geppetto was never a good man, he was just good at pretending.
Eh, I believe he genuinely grieved his lost son and regretted the time he never spent with him. You can hear him mourn in the boss fight with the Nameless Puppet of how he "should have read him his favorite story" and been more present in his life. Problem was, Gepetto could not accept his failure and move on and sought to bring Carlo back to become a "proper" family. What he did was definitely psychotic, but I still can't help but to have pity and sympathy for the man. Maybe I just have a bleeding heart.

Your narrative was concise, you identified the driving relationships between characters and the factions, and your choice of accompanying footage and cutscenes were dynamic and non-repetitive, which is a pitfall a lot of novice documentarians succumb to. A lot of these more complex narrative games do force players to grapple with philosophical concepts, which means that secondhand retellings can get caught up in their attempt to describe all avenues of interpretation, often to the detriment of the story. But good stories use vagueness as a tool. You and your team did an excellent job understanding that principle, and weaved the questions of agency and uncomfortable truth in a very non-distracting way. Good lore summaries require excellent storytellers. For the sake of art, I hope everyone involved in this piece keeps expressing their creative minds.

@@Nocturva Me too. LOL. The content was great but it was distracting because it comes off as the native English speaker suddenly saying croissant or Barcelona the way that native French/Spanish people would.
I need to start by saying that you have done an excellent job with this video as it definitely describes the lore and the story the way it actually is. Here's the problem, I think whenever the story and lore gets narrated the way you have done it, the game sounds lackluster, overly complicated, and too far up its own @$$. It's really a beautiful game, a very VERY beautiful game that i recommend for eveyone to play. But really, you do not have to know all of this to have a deep and thoughtful understanding of this game... Experiencing it first hand will let you have that 😊 This story is a rather distant backdrop to what the game is really about which is much more simple and relatable. It is a deconstruction of Pinocchio, and fairytales in general, and I think it's done brilliantly. That's the brilliancs of it, it's that it's done in an artistic amd stylized manner 😊 You will think about stuff while you're playing it, but they won't be non philosophical or psychological in nature.... You don't need the full lore enjoy it, heck I'd argue you don't need any becasue even without the plot, the gameplay mechanics, level design, art direction, and sountrack are top notch. The plot? It's the adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Have you watched the Disney movie or are familiar with the synopsis? Good because that's all you need. I still appreciate all the effort you'be put into this video, and I highly recommend it to people who have already finished the game and are wondering "WTF did I just play?" 😂 This and many others that go into a deeper discussion about the symbolism and the references in the game because, like a true Souls, it's more than meets the eye.
No, just the language and voice I've been cultivating over the course of the channel's five year lifetime (before prevalence of AI programs) which is apparent after even a brief time on the channel. What I find shocking today is how being well-read/spoken earns AI accusation. You may not like the narration; I can understand that. But writing is something that gives me great creative pleasure, why would I ship that over to ChatGPT for "simplicity"?
Since it is an Italian name I guess my mind was going for an Italian pronunciation, but as mentioned in another comment I've already corrected it for future videos
@@TheLorebrarians My comment might of come off a tad dickish. And I swear I wasn’t going for that 🤣. Loved the vid! I just heard that and my eye twitched every time lol.
@@TheLorebrarians Italian here. You actually pronounced it pretty good. Thanks for giving some consideration to the original work. To all the people complaining, you should see what MY brain does when the average anglo speaker pronounces Geppetto and Pinocchio. No offense.
5:56 isnt it absolutely intriguing, that the two entities he is describing Are basically Jesus Christ and The serpent Jesus being the sacrificial God that was ripped to shreds because he loved us so much that he wanted to give us eternal life I mean you don't even have to be familiar with the biblical account to understand that is type and Shadow of the savior By his stripes we are healed For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whomsoever should believe on him should have eternal life.... That should sound familiar from what he just discussed at that time stamp And the serpent is obvious, the oroboros, aka Satan, aka the snake in the garden of eden, thrown down to eat the dust of the earth, to constantly repeat the cycle of evil until his time is up It's pretty clear that the makers of the lies of p are familiar with this biblical account The greatest story ever told is continuously rehashed over and over in many forms, sllight changes are made here and there so as to give freedom of expression to the designer but inevitably.... The crux of the matter is, smart story will always be retold, because it is written into our very DNA 🧬 are we not all puppets of the master? P was different because he had free will He was different because he was above the law He was different because he could lie...
Good story, not great, but good. I feel the petrification disease plot wasn't properly structured. Story wise, which led to it being virtually uninteresting, weak, and borderline confusing. Lies of P is littered with cool concepts, but their story execution needs some work. Simon Manus was a waste of potential, in fact the last act was a waste of potential
Your voice was not the problem bro. It was just the game audio, it blasted up and down. It was still a great video and I'm still gonna watch whatever you put out. @@TheLorebrarians
I didn’t like the story of the game because from the beginning the game tries to pretend to be a game with a traditional method of storytelling, there is even a dialogue box and choices to lie or not. But then the game throws everything into the trash, by the end new dialogue options stop appearing, the characters don’t comment on important details of the story, and all the choices to lie or not are ruined by one not at all obvious “wrong” random choice and don’t affect anything.
oh, and y' all know who Sofia or Sophia is supposed to represent? Go watch or read the ' true ' oldest and most complete " story'' of Creation that Archeologists have found in those Naghammadi texts some sheepherders boy uncovered accidently.. Sophia, first Light.
*sigh* I love you guys. I really do. I believe I brought this up in another video. The main character isn't P, he's Marco. He's referred to as such throughout the entire game. The P in the title is a misdirection. The story of Pinocchio does play out in some fashion throughout the game, but at the end it's revealed the Cube restock character was actually Paracelsus. It's his lies that have brought about all the misfortune of the game, by giving the alchemists the Arm of God and seeing what they do with it. Ultimately searching for other sources of immortality. I haven't watched the whole video yet, so it's possible you're calling him P at the start as a misdirection for a later reveal. But if you aren't, then that is a mistake - and a big one. Not trying to be disparaging, just trying to help. If I'm incorrect and this is mentioned later, feel free to yell at me :).
I have future videos in the series that will tackle the Alchemists and paracelsus! I use P mostly because it's simpler than referring to him constantly as "Geppetto's puppet" or "puppet of geppetto". And there is no denying this character's parallels to pinocchio in the tales. So for me p=puppet=pinocchio. Now, as you stated there is another "P" in Paracelsus whose deception could be more plausibly linked to the title. I would argue it isn't wrong to refer to the playable character as P but I appreciate the feedback and possible confusion, hopefully can dispel it in future projects
I did five play throughs of Lies. A slow 60 hour one and then four more faster ones. Brilliant game. You get it. I tried telling someone else you're Carlo and was down voted into oblivion. Even though Romeo calls you Carlo, Antonia says you remind her of him, and in the rise ending Geppetto realizes you are the son he was trying to bring back. Can't wait to see what these guys do next.
what is that intro. What is with these lore channels using the most eloquent vocabulary they can muster to tell absolutely nothing. Just talk specifics in normal language and you will get the point across way better. pretentious stuff, this.
Dark souls is also a clone to 90s souls games so there’s that. Don’t put one game series over others and lessen a games value by saying it’s a clone or souls-like.
@@peachdaddyi def wouldn’t say dark souls is a clone to kings field lol I wouldn’t even go so far to say kings field is a souls like they are extremely unique in their own way. If you were to compare dark souls to any early from soft games you could argue armored core as it has the most crossovers L/R hand wep swap, stam management, weight, build types, story telling elements that let players speculate with the addition of hidden items/goals.
How does it not payoff on its setups exactly? It’s not like the game doesn’t have a climax and all of the main story elements are explained at one point. If anything it’s story is way less barebones than DS and even then saying DS doesn’t have a story is already bad faith, because it does.
I have thought about it, but it would be a difficult niche to enter as there are several very popular channels covering the content. Also, a little daunting since there is so much lore and I'm not too familiar with it, but nonetheless a great universe!

I feel like you're taking the piss when you say Geppetto like that.
Love the candid feedback, already corrected in future videos
Same i felt that way too 😂 actually stopped listening bc of it lmao
Experiencing it first hand will let you have that 😊
This story is a rather distant backdrop to what the game is really about which is much more simple and relatable.
It is a deconstruction of Pinocchio, and fairytales in general, and I think it's done brilliantly. That's the brilliancs of it, it's that it's done in an artistic amd stylized manner 😊
You will think about stuff while you're playing it, but they won't be non philosophical or psychological in nature....
I still appreciate all the effort you'be put into this video, and I highly recommend it to people who have already finished the game and are wondering "WTF did I just play?" 😂
This and many others that go into a deeper discussion about the symbolism and the references in the game because, like a true Souls, it's more than meets the eye.
Baller
So if ergo is soul, and ergo makes puppets animate, and puppets can become human, are humans just another races puppets?
This is Yoko Taro level
The P stands for Paul Atreides. Just look at him.
And his personal war against thinking machi- I mean puppets
Lies of Paul
Someone take this guy’s thesaurus away 💀
The game’s story and plot are awesome. The game’s unending enemy delays are terrible.
Bring Magic back man. Wtf...
This sounds so unnatural at times, did you use ChatGPT to pretty up the language of the script...?
No, just the language and voice I've been cultivating over the course of the channel's five year lifetime (before prevalence of AI programs) which is apparent after even a brief time on the channel. What I find shocking today is how being well-read/spoken earns AI accusation. You may not like the narration; I can understand that. But writing is something that gives me great creative pleasure, why would I ship that over to ChatGPT for "simplicity"?
Why do you say his name like that? Do you separate names by syllable? Gepp-et-to 😖
Since it is an Italian name I guess my mind was going for an Italian pronunciation, but as mentioned in another comment I've already corrected it for future videos
@@TheLorebrarians My comment might of come off a tad dickish. And I swear I wasn’t going for that 🤣. Loved the vid! I just heard that and my eye twitched every time lol.
@@BRBakasame 😂
I came to the comments for this immediately 😂
@@TheLorebrarians Italian here. You actually pronounced it pretty good. Thanks for giving some consideration to the original work.
To all the people complaining, you should see what MY brain does when the average anglo speaker pronounces Geppetto and Pinocchio. No offense.
Academy of ideas guy narrator? 😅
Blud is not italian 💀
I havent fi ished alll the chapters...i shouldnt watch 😮
5:56 isnt it absolutely intriguing, that the two entities he is describing
Are basically Jesus Christ and The serpent
Jesus being the sacrificial God that was ripped to shreds because he loved us so much that he wanted to give us eternal life
I mean you don't even have to be familiar with the biblical account to understand that is type and Shadow of the savior
By his stripes we are healed
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whomsoever should believe on him should have eternal life....
That should sound familiar from what he just discussed at that time stamp
And the serpent is obvious, the oroboros, aka Satan, aka the snake in the garden of eden, thrown down to eat the dust of the earth, to constantly repeat the cycle of evil until his time is up
It's pretty clear that the makers of the lies of p are familiar with this biblical account
The greatest story ever told is continuously rehashed over and over in many forms, sllight changes are made here and there so as to give freedom of expression to the designer but inevitably.... The crux of the matter is, smart story will always be retold, because it is written into our very DNA 🧬
are we not all puppets of the master?
P was different because he had free will
He was different because he was above the law
He was different because he could lie...
Hi I'm Poof the 🐔👊 er 💨🃏
Bro. You gotta give an audio warning holy shit that was loud as fuck.
Appreciate the feedback, music or voice-over? I have hard limiters set to -2.5db but will look into it
Your voice was not the problem bro.
Take a shot everytime he says Gepppatttoo
Spoiler: You'll die of alcohol poisoning
oh, and y' all know who Sofia or Sophia is supposed to represent?
Wait, Marco? Do you mean Carlo?
what is that intro. What is with these lore channels using the most eloquent vocabulary they can muster to tell absolutely nothing. Just talk specifics in normal language and you will get the point across way better. pretentious stuff, this.
When the script is written by an English major but not a Communications major
So,same story as just like every final fantasy game until ffx... And
Also,bloodbourne...
Intro too long
Very Overrated game
bro just cant beat the parade boss :))
The way you say gipetto seriously pisses me off
There is no story for this game just bare bones set up but people seem to love lack of story in these dark souls clones
Way to tell us you're a dumbass without actually telling us lol
Dark souls is also a clone to 90s souls games so there’s that. Don’t put one game series over others and lessen a games value by saying it’s a clone or souls-like.
@@peachdaddy what 90s souls games, pray tell?
I'm sorry, I can't listen to your voice for 45 minutes 😢
Did you ever think about doing Warhammer 40k content? Has some damn dope lore
I second this, would probably be the best 40k lore channel out there if he covered it considering how in depth his content is.
I have thought about it, but it would be a difficult niche to enter as there are several very popular channels covering the content. Also, a little daunting since there is so much lore and I'm not too familiar with it, but nonetheless a great universe!
@@TheLorebrarians if u ever decide to make a vid I would be so happy for I and with all seriousness only watch lore vids from Ur channel the long in depth neatly put storytelling is what captures my interest ❤️
