The Beacon is just one of those shoes you can’t let go. Something about it calls you back. Like a siren’s song that you can listen too with no ill effect. Let them be your guilty pleasure. Great review. Great shoe.
I got a pair of the Beacon 2's after watching this review, and now I have over 200 miles in the pair. I have to say, that every time I take them out I am blown away still. I have 4 pairs of running shoes in my rotation; Asics Cumulus 22 Tokyo, the new Balance 1080V10 a trail shoe from Solomon.. and the Beacon 2. This shoe is way (waaaay) above all these in my opinion. I cant believe how light, stable, easy and natural these shoes feel on foot. They just want to goo and go Amaizing job by NewBalance. Thank you for the review!
Will have to pickup some Beacon 1 on sale if not much difference from Beacon 2. Great work, as always. Sidenote: SJD in Chicago this weekend. A run colab would be awesome! Let’s make it happen
Based on your review of the original beacons, I bought a pair and loved them. I ended up buying 2 more pairs for my rotation. I'm just about through with the 3rd pair. They've been glorious for my regular runs, long runs and uptempo runs. Thank you for the recommendation. I hope i can find a suitable replacement.
Great review. I'm year late to the game, but got a pair of Beacon 2s yesterday. Trying to find a new daily trainer as I could not get SL20 fit properly dispite my tests with different knots. Anyway, today's easy run in the Beacons was great! Looking forward to do more runs in these.
Watching a SJD video from earlier this year introduced me to joesnewbalanceoutlet.com where I found the Beacon 2's for $60. Might have to give them a try after your positive review. Love that I can almost always find a review of any shoe on your channel, Mike!
Beacon 2 arrived in Brazil. It cost a half of a worker payment here. But I intend to buy one for me. After my spinal injury I saw how wonderful is walk and move. I want to run and have good. That is no price for this
My beacon v2 just landed today. I got it for 30 dollar (converted) for size 10 here in bali, indonesia. From clereance sell online store. I think its best deal for beginner runner like me!!
Just had a snow run with them and they actually perform awesome so I prefer them over the 1080 My 1080 are not my grab to for everything like the beacon 2 is. Love them thanks for the review
kofuzi yes I preferred the beacon in the snow but 1080 did great last time but I find beacon lighter in the snow and not as squishy but both fresh foam work in snow surprisingly
Do you notice the 6mm drop much after doing most of your running in 10mm? I am considering this show but only have been using Nike and 10mm drop shoes.
I honestly feel really bad bombarding you with the same kind of question. Having the ZF3, do you stick to the same size across brands? I usually thought Nike ran a bit small and wanted to double check if that was the case for you, being I can't go and try these on in store. Again, sorry for asking the same question over and over. Was gonna go with Turbo 2s but after many good reviews about the V2 I'm gonna go with them instead. I appreciate you!
when people tell me that something runs small, i always ask, compared to what? compared to a casual shoe? a dress shoe? i run in the same size 9 running shoe across all the brands. it's not like jeans, where there is vanity sizing.
looking for a suggestion. I really like the NB Beacon, Nike Pegasus and Brooks Launch. I know it is the middle of the summer but I live in Michigan and winter running is a big part of the year. Any suggestions for good winter running shoes? grippy and warm, thanks!
Thanks for the review I just ordered my first pair. I’ve heard from others that the toebox is a bit larger than expected, with some runners saying that it felt like their feet were swimming around in the shoe. Did you find that in these? Thanks again!
Awesome glad to hear that you like these as much or more - I just picked up a pair and love my V1s still wear them all the time even though they are beat up.. Did you find the heel collar a little hot though? I have only run in mine a few times and felt it ran a little hotter than the V1's also it looks like in the video that you may have been not wearing socks in some footage - how did that work? I felt that that heel did not lend itself to doing that which I do enjoy on occasion...
Talking about slipping shoes on, have you tried the Speed Lace systems? Basically bungie like laces with a locking mechanism. They seem to be working so far, but I dont put in the miles you and many of your followers do. Just curious if the Speed Lace holds up over time.
How about the Reebok Forever Floatride? Heard a lot of good stuff about it. But hearing a review from you is still noteworthy. Wont you do a review on those?
The outsole on my Beacon 1’s wore down at quicker rate than what was reported on your review and SJD’s. I think it was due to the heat in the tropical climate here.
kofuzi I would say half of my runs in them are late afternoon runs at 28°C average temperature (all year round) and the other half are night runs in cooler temps.
@@kofuzi about the same use as the Nike Vomero 14 and the "same" cushioning of the Beacon 2. The only thing I dislike about the 1080 v9 is that it looks like more as a casual shoe then it looks like a running shoe. Huge laces and a huge super reflective N symbol.

Picked up the NB FuelCell Propel today and had a good test run in them. We’ll see how I like them over time or will I wish I had picked up the beacons instead. My NB store doesn’t carry beacons to try on. Go figure?
@@kofuzi I now did my first run in these, jumped right into a 6 miler, and love them. I used to buy bungee cord type shoe laces, but as you pointed out the upper on this shoe is already elastic , so no need! Tie once, and then just slip them on and off.

I've noticed this for awhile, your foot strike is damn near perfect. Is that something you have worked on over the years or is it just natural for you? Btw last years models are some of the lowest prices i have seen, some sizes as low as $70.
That's kind of you to say I have good form. I've always thought I run a bit funny, although I think things have improved a bit over time. I haven't done any drills or anything. I think that, as people get stronger, things start to align
Just grabbed a pair from NB 25% off online. That's Australian $127, cheaper than you can pick up a pair of what's left of the Beacon 1s online. Needed a third shoe in rotation, with the Vomero's and Nike Zoom Fly Flyknits after ditching yet another pair of Brooks. Thinking that the Flyknits will continue to be my endurance session shoes (track, interval, hills), Vomero's tempo/recovery, and Beacons long run/recovery.
Could you give the Brooks Glycerin a try? Been looking for a more cushioned shoe that can still go fast, and have seen mixed opinions on the versatility of the Glycerin. FYI, I'm a bout 180 lbs and prefer a little more cushion due to old knee injuries. I typically go for longer jogs (around 4-5 miles) twice a week, and due a agility and sprint work twice a week. Also looking for opinions on whether I should get 2 different shoes for each day, or get one "do it all" shoe. Thanks for any recommendations or advice.
You should check out the Saucony Ride Iso 2, I personally use it on all my runs and I run 30+ miles a week in them. They have the support for long distances, and are versatile. I think Kofuzi did a review on them not too long ago
I didn't enjoy the Glycerins because they just feel heavy. My Nike Epic Reacts are a breath of fresh air by comparison, and provide good cushion. NB Beacon and Hoka Rincon are similar to the Epic React. These are next-gen shoes that provide both lightness and cushion.
@kofuzi I'm a beginner runner, running now on an asics gel-nimbus 21 and and i feel they are too bulky and it feels a bit like im running with boots, looking at reviews and impressions of yours I cant decide between the Pegasus 36 or the Beacon v2 for my daily running shoe. I'm running between 5 and 10k now and i want to run a half marathon in march 2020. Would love to have some more advice :)
I’m a 400-800 meter runner in high school who occasionally runs long distance workouts. Do you recommend these shoes or the Pegasus 36, or another shoe entirely? Great review and thanks!
I'd recommend the Pegasus of the turbo if you only have one running shoe other than your spikes. If you have two running shoes, I'd add the zoom streak or zoom streak lt (although I haven't had a chance to try those) for your fast days
Would you say the use cases of the Beacon 2 and Boston 8 are similar? Sounds like you prefer the Beacon 2 over the Boston 8 (at least based on the fact that you're considering holding onto them longer than other shoes)?
kofuzi so its safe to say you aren’t their biggest fan haha. Ok I was just curious, they seem to be making better stuff, but I don’t see much for reviews on RUclips
I get a lot of questions about that shoe. I'm not convinced it's a running shoe (is it like the exp-x14? or the air max 270?). Even if it were, if you're looking at it due to cost, I would still recommend getting a sale pair of last year's shoes.
Hello Kofuzi. Much respect for your channel. Question is, have you ran in the New Balance Echo joggers, if so have you done a Vlog on them for your thoughts, cheers from #MaDHatteRBarbeR fellow RUclips vlogger .
What would you choose as a single pair of shoes to train for a half marathon and to transition into summer cross country training? Beacon 2, peg 36, or 1080v9?
@@kayvega1156 I offer Skechers Gorun Ride 8 for daily trainer. This shoe is my favourite now!!!. and Zoom fly FK when u want to Tempo and speed workout ^^
kofuzi I’ve been using the peg 35 for the last 6 months along with the turbo 1. I’ll probably just hold off until Black Friday for the peg 36. Although Skechers has a bunch of shoes coming out in October that look very appealing
You can track all of your pairs of shoes very easily in Strava free version. Others too (e.g. MapMyRun). You just edit the run and select from a drop down of the various shoes you have added.
I have a pair of the original Beacons that have just over 200 miles on them. Between miles 100 and 200, the cushioning in the mid sole really decreased. My forefoot is really sore after a 6-8 mile run. I doubt I will buy the 2. The 1080 version 8 has over 300 miles and the cushioning is still very good.
I ran my firs pair beacon 670km without any problem including one marathon 😎 i think i could have run even more, but I switched to new pair just in case.
Hi Kofuzi! Love your vids What do you think about NB size chart? Look on its website see the size 0.5 bigger than Adidas, oreder Beacon V2 because yoir review size 8us, little worry it's gonna be big. Thanks
i've not looked at the size chart. but i generally go with the same size running shoes across all brands. i wouldn't try to compare a casual shoe size or a basketball shoe size to a running shoe size though. in that case, i'd rather a person go and try on a shoe in person
Just nabbed version 1 on eBay for $55. After one month on my first pair there is visible wear. I weigh 220. Don't pull the laces too hard....I broke a lace loop!

kofuzi I’ve been using the peg 35 for the last 6 months along with the turbo 1. I’ll probably just hold off until Black Friday for the peg 36. Although Skechers has a bunch of shoes coming out in October that look very appealing
I personally like the charged bandit 2 for 80 bucks I think they're comprable
any recommendations how to track mileage in diff pair of shoes? any good apps to recommend? tq
You can track all of your pairs of shoes very easily in Strava free version. Others too (e.g. MapMyRun). You just edit the run and select from a drop down of the various shoes you have added.
anyone know how this would compare to the Fuel call propel 2 or the fresh foam tempo?
Did you experience knee injury before?
Not since 2010
would you use a beacon 2 or epic react 2 for running 8-10km ( 6min / km ) ?
Both are great. If I had to pick, id pick beacon 2
@@kofuzi thank you so much. love your videos ! keep it up buddy !
Are these better than the Pegasus 36
Don't make me choose. I love them both
@@kofuzi Would love to see a compares video
Music intro was great 👍!
How this compare with NB Roav ?
don't know
So for the same price, I'm curious... Peg 36 or Beacon 2?
Phil Ortman Beacon 2 10000%
such a hard question. my head says beacon 2. my heart says pegasus 36
The Gumby Chronicles I’m just over 150 in the originals and have started to notice the same thing unfortunately.
Same thing happened to me in the originals. Got a little less than 200 in before I had to retire them. Loved them while they lasted though.
I have around 330km in mine, I started noticing that it felt less lively after 250km. Glad I'm not alone.
hmm. i didn't experience that in mine last year. but i'll keep an keen eye out for it this year.
I ran my firs pair beacon 670km without any problem including one marathon 😎 i think i could have run even more, but I switched to new pair just in case.
Ah man I might have to get some 😂
But you just got a pair of v1!
kofuzi no mate not me, I haven’t run in any NB yet! I think you mean EddBud 👌
Hi Kofuzi! Love your vids
What do you think about NB size chart? Look on its website see the size 0.5 bigger than Adidas, oreder Beacon V2 because yoir review size 8us, little worry it's gonna be big.
Thanks
i've not looked at the size chart. but i generally go with the same size running shoes across all brands. i wouldn't try to compare a casual shoe size or a basketball shoe size to a running shoe size though. in that case, i'd rather a person go and try on a shoe in person
Can anyone help me out? New balance Beacon 2 or Nike Pegasus 36 which one is more comfortable (cousioned) on long distances.
anybody know the name of the beginning music
I source all my music from Epidemic sound
Just nabbed version 1 on eBay for $55. After one month on my first pair there is visible wear. I weigh 220. Don't pull the laces too hard....I broke a lace loop!
really? i've never heard of that.
What is the difference between fresh foam ground contact vs regular fresh foam?
great question. i love the one and think it's a miracle foam good for any distance or pace. the other, i think it's just ok.
