Persona 3 Portable the only version of Persona 3 with widescreen and the only one with an option between a male and female protagonist (If I go a little further with what's in P3P I might spoil things)
@mankindkn Well, for one you can play as a female protagonist with her own social links. Not to mention battle mechanics are refined, there are more difficulty levels to choose from and there are some fun little extra things added into the story line for those who were already fans of P3 and P4.
"Get this weird kid out of my room. You are on a clock on this game if time runs out your psp melts and turns into a gameboy. So you have to win before that or you'll be stuck playing excite bick for the rest of eternity." This made my day.
this game is not only one of the best psp games of the year, its also of the best psp games of all time. The game is fun, has a sim style to it, and overall excellent gameplay. this game is the reason why you should buy a psp.
@haganum Not necessarily. The game progresses in days and in those days there are "blocks" of time depicting a time of the day. Doing certain things(Social Links, Improving Stats, Main Story Events.) will take up these blocks and thus force you to end the day and go onto the next one.
Here's one thing you should mention as well: don't play Persona 4 before 3 like I did. Persona 4 spoiled me in terms of its content and gameplay, and I love it much more than 3. I'm sure I would've loved 4 more than 3 anyway, but because I think it's the most polished Persona game, playing it before 3 will make 3 look worse than it actually is. The combat in 3 really turned me off because I enjoyed controlling everyone in 4 and formulating my own strategy.

Persona 3 Portable is more a visual-novel with dungeon-crawling aspects that're used to break up the action as the plot evolves. If you've already played FES then it won't bother you that the cutscenes aren't animated, and the backgrounds are static. There both great and I hope you enjoy the journey!
Persona 3 Portable is the only Persona Game I loved playing. Used to have it on PSP and now I have it on Vita. I even just found out the Original P3 is on PS2 & had a follow up story called Persona 3 FES which I am willing to try that game. I even can't believe there are Persona 3 Movies which I want to watch. Consider myself a P3 Fan. Loved the story, characters, gameplay, atmosphere, & how charming it is. Kind of sucks it's a Sequel Game and not a as a Starting Point 1st Game which I feel the same way for Dragon Quest 8. I just find the DQ8 Character Cast & P3 Character Cast way more appealing than previous and current games they just never caught my eye for some reason than the 2 I adore the most.
@yaku3 Wel.. your magatama gives you stat bonuses and also changes your weaknesses and your strengths. Also, magatama allows you to learn certain skills (Like healing, fire, etc). Kinda like Personas, but there arent as many. If your gunna play SMT Nocturne, build your character into a hulk, and learn more physical attack skills, and mabye one elemental (fire-based perhaps?)
@theif519 There evokers when you pull the trigger it acts as a way to force your persona out. i dont know the logic behind it but supposedly its some imaginery force that helps use the persona.
Junpei asks the same question about the Evoker in a text-only conversation with the Protagonist, but it's more-or-less hand-waved. There's a sort of symbolism to it; Junpei mentions that you have to be messed up to put a gun to your head and pull the trigger, and all the characters do tend to harbor damaged personality traits.
@milkcrysis Yep. If anyone cares (and I'm sure no one does, lol), they stand for "Boaz" and "Jakin" which are the names of the two main pillars of the main temple in Jerusalem waaaay back when the Tarot was first invented.
@ThatRedMageDude well first off P3 and such still cost around 30 to 40 bucks here in the states not 25 and u could have got it via ebay or some other means that were liget and not bootlegged
I haven't played P3 yet, but I just bought FES, then P3P afterwards because I realized I could just look up cutscenes later, but dealing with being locked down in front of my PS3 for a lengthy game just sounded terrible to me so I plan on playing P3P ASAP. My understanding is Orpheus is a different color and you get different S.Links.
The thing about the persona games is the presentation. I haven't played a game with better presentation than persona 3 and 4. It makes the grinding necessary to beat the game bear-able and fun. There have been plenty of games that just made the combat get boring too quickly, and since the grinding is required make the game feel like a chore, but these games keep you on your feet most of the time. I am taking a couple of days off of work for persona 5, and I can't freaking wait.
There are differences... (I will not include spoilers) In Persona 3(P3) for the ps2, you get a lot of interaction with the map. I.e You walk to go to shops, malls, and school.. But in the Persona 3 Portable(P3P) They removed that, so you have to go via a push of a button on your map... I guess they did this to reduce loading time... Persona 3 FES is like a sequel to P3 so I would recommend to play P3 or P3P first before FES... And also the PS2 version has cool anime like cut scenes
If I had to say best order to play them is 3 then 4 then 1 then 2, 3 & 4 are both really good and accessible while 1 & 2 are very archaic and while you may really enjoy them as a recommendation they are better to play as fan exploring the games history.
@mankindkn No only that, but also an extra chapter. I believe that P3P's is an introduction. Some of the cutscenes show more darker imagery, without these specially animated scenes the story seems lighter and more player-friendly. If you play P3P first and do get interested in it I would definitely recommend watching the cutscenes because they displays extra info. Playing the chapter The Answer is a must because while P3 ends abruptly, this chapter explains what happens to the others.
@Gaahinafan1 I thought I heard people say the "evoker" thing was just in the English translation--that in the Japanese version it's a gun. I was kind of interested in the PSP version but a lot of people say you have to do it for the first time with FES. I thought, "I gotta play an 80-hour game TWICE?!" O_o I played the game for a couple hours, I think. Nothing about it got me interested, as the different aspects of the game seemed mismatched (sim+crawler). But you're making me interested.
@oohoohmy The ps2 version is said to be around 70 hours just for the journey, but it took me almost 100 hours. It really depends how much time you put into the game .
@mankindkn ... sometimes, cos they might usethe wrong moves at the wrong time. well at least the psp provides 2 campaigns. however, you can't see what the charries model during daytime. you just look at their portraits and the words, so sometimes it's a lil weird and confusing. you cant see your charrie hugging another charrie u like, they just say "You hold Yukari in your arms" or something, so it's a bummer. or in this case: Yukari: What did you say? (SFX: Bash) Junpei" OW! So what happened

I'm sure many people are indifferent about it. When people say you either love or hate something they usually just mean a lot of people hate it.
Does Steel Gigas look like Hulk Hogan on purpose?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAAN! I LOVE YOUR SHOW
I thought I was the only one who knew about dark city... Good review!
@kujaex P3P doesnt have the added story with aigis. it only covers the first version but with a female option to play as.
@theif519 There evokers when you pull the trigger it acts as a way to force your persona out. i dont know the logic behind it but supposedly its some imaginery force that helps use the persona.
@roronoapedro
Indeed, just to add, FES have both stories, u can select at the first scene.
You have the game already... I'm so jealous.
Nice review :D
Junpei asks the same question about the Evoker in a text-only conversation with the Protagonist, but it's more-or-less hand-waved. There's a sort of symbolism to it; Junpei mentions that you have to be messed up to put a gun to your head and pull the trigger, and all the characters do tend to harbor damaged personality traits.
@milkcrysis Yep. If anyone cares (and I'm sure no one does, lol), they stand for "Boaz" and "Jakin" which are the names of the two main pillars of the main temple in Jerusalem waaaay back when the Tarot was first invented.
@Avatar9023
She's Minako Arisato (fan name), the optional female protagonist of P3P.
Nice Video! :D Keep it up! :D You should review Rygar the Legendary Adventure, that would be kool! :D
@kujaex A bit different, and it adds a female characters and slightly different story according to which character you choose.
@Gaahinafan1
I thought I heard people say the "evoker" thing was just in the English translation--that in the Japanese version it's a gun.
I was kind of interested in the PSP version but a lot of people say you have to do it for the first time with FES. I thought, "I gotta play an 80-hour game TWICE?!" O_o
I played the game for a couple hours, I think. Nothing about it got me interested, as the different aspects of the game seemed mismatched (sim+crawler). But you're making me interested.
@oohoohmy The ps2 version is said to be around 70 hours just for the journey, but it took me almost 100 hours. It really depends how much time you put into the game .
@mankindkn ... sometimes, cos they might usethe wrong moves at the wrong time. well at least the psp provides 2 campaigns.
however, you can't see what the charries model during daytime. you just look at their portraits and the words, so sometimes it's a lil weird and confusing. you cant see your charrie hugging another charrie u like, they just say "You hold Yukari in your arms" or something, so it's a bummer. or in this case:
Yukari: What did you say?
(SFX: Bash)
Junpei" OW!
So what happened
Excellent game. I enjoyed every minute of this one playing it originally for the PS2.
My 9 year old sister plays this , about 32 hours in so far and loving it. She took my psp and played it due to boredom but got hooked lol.
Thanks for the reply (:, yeah I HAD to buy it, cause I really like story-driven RPGs and this seems to be a great one! Lookinf forward to it but I currently have it on hold because there are so many games I have to finish first heheh.
I haven't played through all of the 4th one yet but this looks to be very similar.. Game play best described as a cross between The Sims and a quick paced RPG..
@ALcreates now that you mention it, never played the games but have watched the animes and read the manga
Listen to this guy and take his words to your heart. Believe me, its the best RPG EVER MADE! I played yesterday straight for 12 hours and needed to quit because I was tired. Its the perfect balance of pokemon/jade cocoon, dungeon crawler and real life sim. This game earns his praise on everything in the game, its like playing an anime! ;D
Atlus > SE
Who agrees?
i see a quad elemental lilim... nice use of the "disc one nuke" in the beginning XD
