What I dread the most during the GST days were the end month reporting that needed to be compiled and submit to the Kastam. Why? As TP said, any mistake done will subject me to the law of fines and even prison. It's stupid as we are collecting money for the government and if for some reason, mistakes made unintentionally will risk my business into paying penalty for it, unless the business is making good money, it wont be a problem but for most businesses who were operating at marginal profits, the damage would be huge. GST is an efficient way to collect money for the government but process which we went thru is inefficient and back firing.

Being a Singaporean, lower income family, full time care giver, GST is very good as it helps the elderly, lower income. Of course the middle class and rich will hate GST. For me, i will be more than happy to see GST hit 15% after all the developed countries are much higher than 8% currently. With GST i have the option to buy what is needed, or even used hp. The govt needed the GST to transfer the wealth. At the same time to go populalist inorder to win since 2011 GE. Back then during that GE, Worker's Party votes are generally 40% + when they face off PAP candidates. While other oppositions gain 20 to 30%. Ever since that great distress, PAP been introducing more and more policies to help the lower income, thanks to covid 19, Russia Ukraine war, US Fed and the high inflation that comes about. Without these benefits, PAP likely to lost even more seats or even the governmentship. Being a voter i of course reciprocate by voting for PAP esp. the oppositions didnt mention their grand plan on how to help the poor except the release of cpf. Seriously cannot be like this right. Vote for you politicians to advance your agenda. Must win win right. PAP is li hai, they are good at keeping promise. I dont know if this work in Msia but you have formidable opponent as in PAS. BRIM works in a way that people gets to choose what and where they want the money to be spent on. Regardless whether it is groceries, fuel, education etc. Plus, it indirectly contributes to the local economy especially for the luar bandar folks, as people have extra income to spend on. It is a targeted subsidy.

Aiyah Tony you are no longer in politics so why not just be honest and say it as it is.
The decision to abolish GST was based on what was the most convenient and logical thing to do from a political perspective when PH came to power.
    1. GST was implemented and impossed by BN led by Najib. PH campaigned heavily on abolishing GST.
So obviously need to consider the above.
    2. The implementation was screwed up with massive issues on both the tax payer and tax collectors end.
    3. This was due not due to GST being a complex system but piss poor ability of the Malaysian public service when it comes to planning and implementing and executing public policies.
They will pick a proposal that comes with a ministers recommendation and expect reality to bend backwards to fit the plan instead of devising a plan that takes into account implementation and enforcement abilities.
So GST roll out saw many small businesses just close shop than go stand inline at the LHDN counters to speak to an officer who is so clueless and out of touch with reality.
    4. Than there was the massive swell of anger among the private business owners who by than had not seen a refund in 6 months and had begun to refuse collecting or paying GST.
    The 19 billion story.
    5. Finally there was the Zimbabwean levels of epic financial scandals and outright looting of public funds PH inherited from 40 years of Mahathirism.
Literally every facet of governance was operating a get rich scheme.
PH didnt have immediate sollutions to fix a badly planned implementation nor was there a capacity to resolve the refund processes that was abandoned by Najibs administration and had practically grinded to a standstill for 6 over months by than.
So the most logical thing to do as a politician is not what is best for the nation but whats politically expedient at that moment.
    Abolish GST

There are baseline food consumption that are exempted from this tax so that the B40 are not further improverised.

u need to create the systems and infrastructures to collect these taxes; they do not drop from the sky.
is there a good time to introduce gst? when the economy is good? when the govt's rating is at a high? nah

Politicians wouldnt impose a tax when the economy is on the uptick because it will damage their chances of securing another term in the coming elections.

Without GST, cartel and middle men will increase prices slowly each month.
But most people fail maths and lazy to calculate. They rather cartel slow slow tipu (SST) them.
We all experience that after GST abolished, prices increase here and there.

GST is a repeated tax at each transaction point that needs to be refunded at the end of it.

@@theallseeingeye9388 Yes that prevented those cartels and middle men profiteering by increasing prices each month.
With SST , Slow Slow Tipu, we all pay more just like today. Thanks to SST, the rich got richer.
PLus next year tax 10% online overseas purchase.
