I passionately believe that Legends: Dragonslayer did a fantastic job with what it was trying to achieve: introducing the culture of scavengers in the dragon world AND tying up all the loose ends that were left unexplained in Arc 1. The characters were all phenomenally written as well, especially for them to all fit in one book. The only reason I can imagine why so many fans didn’t like it is simply because they came to read Wings Of Fire because of the dragon protagonists instead of more stories told by humans, and therefore unconsciously didn’t give the one human book in the franchise a fair chance to get them to like it.
Everyone is free to have their own opinions! But I didn’t find the characters that well written. They were vaguely alright, but most of them weren’t compelling and kind of boring. Scavengers didn’t seem to be necessary to this series.
eh, the evolutionary character traits of the scavengers didn't line up with reality. Humans didn't really fight amongst eachother so much until they had colonized all the land they thought there was. Then, in order to get more, they fought against each other to expand their own influence. Dragonslayer just has many humans being jerks to each other for no real reason, with very little trust shown in it. Makes little sense.
@@LucasTiberius if they made the effort to build those strong cities and underground villages after Oasis’ death then I’d say they followed the behavior you’re claiming they should have.
I don’t hate scavengers, I hate how they appeared to matter out of absolutely nowhere randomly in book 14. An element like that should be introduced in the beginning of an arc if it’s going to have so much relevance in the end, the way Darkstalker was.
I'm glad to have scavengers as characters that way I have a point of view I can relate to, but I don't like how quickly Wren broke the ice with the scavengers and the dragons.
Small notes lol, scavengers are in book 2! Tsunami finds two in a boat during a storm and decides to help them out. In book 4 they don't appear but Starflight notices that the NightWings have specifically noted all of their dens on a map, and he wonders why. Io was the one who wanted a pet but was told HiveWings might eat it, and that was a regular monkey. Anyway I like the humans, I believe they are way overhated and Dragonslayer was a great book.
another is in book 1. While escaping the sky kingdom Clay sees a scavenger (human) struggling to crawl into a window. Clay helps the human. I know you said this 2 years ago but idc lol

Not sure, I kind of started reading WoF to not have humans in it, just to have something I can just read without constantly projecting stuff onto my life or the world around me. Was just peaceful and nice. Not that Dragonslayer or the other books with a lot of scavenger content weren't nice, not at all, I liked them, but they lost that part for me, which is a bit sad. Again, If I wanted to read a series about humans, there's no lack of material, but there are no comparable books about just dragons. Anyways, just my two cents, have a good day everyone 👋
I love the Scavengers! I don't mind them being in the series, as long as the main characters are about Dragons. But I simply like their relationships because it makes sense to me; If both races desire to live together, they must live together in peace and have a mutual relationship. It's like we humans travel to a new planet or country; We need to rely on the natives of that said planet so we can survive there. And they need us to gather more knowledge to advance as a race. One thing I find worth mentioning is Sky's character. I have a theory that his character will undergo a trial in potential Arc 4. The scenario is this: Humanity and Dragonkind are engaged in a war. Wren has been captured by The Invincible Lord and Sky has a choice to make, with no one to help him. Since Sky has been raised by scavengers and even raised by one, he has grown to love them and consider them his family. However, because of his upbringing, he lacks no cultural knowledge about the SkyWings... Nor anything about the Dragons. Now one thing I am interested in seeing is which side he belongs to... Will he stay loyal to the Scavengers? Or will he join Dragonkind to prove he is one, through and through. Leave the thought to you all.
ah yes, and it continued to skip several years at some points and never mentioned that, leaving many of us confused reading it. You had to pay attention to the small detail that Wingwatcher training starts at age 14, and that wing watchers could go outside at age 15 just to figure out that Ivy and her friends are that age in her chapter. I only really began to like it when they stopped skipping around and added some more to the plot. And yes, I agree, it is tied to much to the plot, and there are a few holes, like the fact that only 2-3 days pass in the palace with Wren before the battle to free Sunny happens, but Deathbringer is the one who dropped her off, and it takes at least another week for Sunny to even get captured in Burn's stronghold. overall, your points are very valid.
@@LucasTiberius it told you every time it skipped years I kept track and was just fine reading it maybe work on your reading comprehension just a thought
that is true and hey it's just a theory. But at some point in the story, Tui's gotta give him some development. I mean, I think the best way for him really would be to face a dilemma that would challenge him. Plus, it would also help him mature.
“And why they’re not that bad”. Well duuuuuhhhh, the scavengers are the same species as US! Millenniums ago to be exact! If you know How To Train Your Dragon you’d know that it’s apparently VERY easy for a human and dragon to bond. (Tho how it works in this universe is the complete opposite of that franchise if you get what I mean)
@@MintPawYT I know. I was saying that the relationship between the scavengers are the complete opposite of the relationship between the humans and dragons in HTTYD. I wasn’t making a direct comparison between the two. lol
Scavengers really needed to be introduced earlier in some ways, later in others. They should have more time to develop. So Sky and Wren can be brought in in, say, Escaping Peril or Talons of Power, and it's kinda ambiguous how they get along until Dragonslayer comes along, then they have the development they need to be important for The Dnagerous Gift and The Flames of Hope.
One of my problems is I skipped Dragonslayer thinking it was just a one off. Then Dangerous Gift comes out and I realize I was supposed to read Dragonslayer.
Scavengers are fine; I just think that they were too forced to be a big part of the books towards the end of the series. They were used too much, yet had some missed opportunities. I just feel like the scavengers plot was too out of nowhere.
I'm not sure where the fear of scavengers taking center stage is coming from. Wings of Fire is still fundamentally a dragon novel and any scavengers that may appear will be from the point of view of the dragons. Meaning they'll only hear them as squeaking little apes unless a translator and dragon speaker are talking which at the moment is only just one who is mostly fluent at it. Honestly I want to see how dragon kind moves forward with the recent revelation and see where the direction for the new human-dragon relationship will turn into.
See, I thought dragonslayer was fine by itself. But it tied heavily into the arc- unlike Darkstalker. You can get the main points about that book and arc 2 without needing to read it, but i feel like people would probably be confused why Scvangers could suddenly talk, and are suddenly a bigger part then before. And who these new scavengers are. I wouldn’t say the scavengers are bad- I thought Ivy and Wren where fine, but i was kinda bored by Leaf. And dragonslayer still isn’t like my least favorite book- like i said, i liked it. Idk, i guess i just wish scavengers didn’t become a big part in the series and was part of saving the dragons and what was controlling them. Guess i have mixed feelings on them
I am completely fine with scavengers In the series unless one gets their own book, they can have a winglet or a legends but I still want the main povs to be dragons
My opinion is that the only good human is Wren lol. I do really like the idea of scavengers having to hide around dragons and being regarded as rats, like you said, but I do feel like it kinda takes you out of the main story when implemented too much. Like the scavengers in the ending of arc 3 just kinda came out of nowhere, and there was just too much going on. The book wouldve already been crowded without scavengers heavily involved, and imo Tui should've focused more on finishing dragon storylines before switching the narrative. (Idk I just feel like Wasp got so much buildup but the takedown was a bit lackluster). I do love Wren tho, one of my favorites, great character, she must protecc dragon bean
I knew scavenger meant human from the first moment they were mentioned I never understood the hate for them. In human books about dragons, the dragons are usually sentient, it only makes sense it works the other way around. They were always part of the story, the story HAPPENED bc of them, if you think they are out of place you simply haven't been paying attention and/or don't understand the series at all. And just bc the queen's passed the law, it does not mean they are safe. Just about the only thing bullfrog ever did was show that even after they became protected, and one is proving sentients by speaking directly to him, he still doesn't believe it. Still thinking of them as prey animals. Also, the Pantalan humans don't know what happened on pyrrhia. Even the pyrrhians might not know yet, given that most don't speak dragon and wren left for Pantala just a few days after the law was passed. Which only really gives the information to whatever humans were living nearby at the time anyone else over the continent would not have been informed by that point. This means that while dragons are aware that humans are protected species some of them may not follow this law and the humans may not even be aware it exists for a while so any plots regarding humans thinking they're in danger or being in danger are still quite valid plots for the future. And just because they're protected on one continent does not mean they're protected on the other at all. Also you mixed up blue and IO and I actually had a real monkey and not a scavenger also tsunami rescued to in book 2 and you forgot that and you can completely left out the indestructible City nearly killing qibli.
I was totally fine with having scavengers in Wings Of Fire. It seems like a very cool idea and I always get excited when a human’s onscreen. The thing that kinda drew me down a bit about them is that the MAIN VILLAIN of the entire series focusing mainly around DRAGONS was a human instead of a dragon. It’s not that I didn’t want bad humans; that seems like a good idea to me, actually, so that there’s more to them than just talking fluffballs. I didn’t want the main villain of the series to be a human because it focused way to much on Cottonmouth. If he was just a side villain, that would have been so cool! More attention to scavengers and such. But he was the entire thing, and so it drew too much at humans and went a little overboard with the human focus. I didn’t like that. But I would love to see more human dragon relationships because it seems like such a fun idea to me after everything that’s happened.
When I got to the scene in Dragonslayer where Ivy and Leaf were interacting with Sunny, for fun, I pulled out Brightest Night and read both chapters simultaneously. I think that might be my favorite scene in the book.
To be honest, I don't understand people at all who are afraid that wof will become another httyd. The only thing that will be common between these works is that humans will fly on dragons. In almost all fantasy works, dragons play the role of either ancient creatures that are walking collections of global knowledge of the universe and epic magic, or perform the role of Pokemon (roughly speaking). Wof, in fact, is a unique work because dragons are shown as a civilization for the first time. And it would be very interesting to see how such a civilization interacts with other races. First of all, with humans.
Exactly, the relationships between scavengers and humans are pretty much the same as two countries having relations with each other. I highly doubt the scavengers will “train” the dragons, for they already tried that once and look what happened. Feel like people who hate on the scavengers just because they are not dragons are kind of petty, but I can understand the frustration as well. There’s not a lot of series out there that focus on just dragons and not the humans surrounding them instead.
i think the scavengers can exist without causing too many problems. yes, it was a little messy in book 14 and 15, and i haven’t read dragonslayer yet, but as long as the dragons remain being the dominant species (which they most likely will) i’m fine with scavengers existing.
I was quite happy with Dragonslayer, and it performed amazingly at the thing it was supposed to be. A spin-off from a new perspective. I however hopped for a few more spin-offs and worldbuilding and the implementation in 14-15 felt rushed…
I personally think that the scavengers becoming more involved is giving the series more opportunities for story telling, and a VAST amount of lore potential especially with the duality of the species learning more about it others intelligence through both species realizing that the other can build buildings, forge things and create art plus would be a potential future villain we've seen evil queens, we've seen evil god like beings with daddy issues, we've seen so much magic stuff humans would be a nice twist, like with the invincible lords ominous declaration of his plans at the end of dragonslayer Also I just find it a little silly that a lot of people just complain that dragonslayer is about humans, and it's "ruining the uniqueness of the franchise" guys, we have 15 mainline books, a prequel, and 4 short stories with dragon POV's, I think one book with three human POV's is completely reasonable
I've always felt sorry for the scavengers, they've pretty much spent the last few generations being treated as pets and food by the dragons, never being allowed to live in peace and flourish as a species. It's good to see now as of the end of arc 3, they're finally recognized as people by the dragons, but not all of them can be expected to forgive their oppressors.
I dunno, I kinda find them annoying and unnecessery. It was all just funny Easter eggs (haha, puny hoomans, lol) and now BOOM! They're now among protagonists saving the world. Like, wut?? I can't take them seriously after all these books. Tbh if all Scavengers were eaten I wouldn't be too upset. Not gonna read Dragonslayer because of that.
I think that as long as Tui is carefull it has major potential. Maybe a side book here and there from a human perspective but I think the main series should be dragons. Also as long as the humans are in there but don't shove to far forward it will be fine. I do like the concept though. Also, dragonslayer was a huge relief for me because I heard somewhere that the series was ending at book 15 and there was only a few small things. The last brightest night skywing mentioned in book 8, sky and peril meeting, and animus magic disappearing could all have been left up to the reader, but at the end of dragon slayer, it gave a whole new plot line. Another theory I have is another series. So far it's split up into arks but there could be a whole new series from a human point of veiw. But hey, that's just a theory, a book theory!
I do love the humans in books because, one: it makes me, a human, feel more connected to the story because I can put myself in their shoes more easily then magic dragons, and two: i grew up as the how to train your dragon content was coming out, so seeing dragon and people living together like this is amazing, and takes me back to that time of seeing the movies coming out. Thats my view point and I do get what she said about Ivy seeming like more of a background character, which is a shame because the themes of her and her mothers story should be put up a little higher, even if its "just a kids book".
I myself do not feel strongly about scavengers on either side. They're not terrible, but they're also not that great. I did find Dragonslayer an enjoyable book though!
Scavengers are genuinely my least favourite part of WOF. I might not even read series 4 (if there is one) because they’re just so annoying to me. I came here to read about dragons, not humans!
Scavengers are ok, sure maybe I wasn't too happy that scavengers where introduced to the plot (and if more are written they will definitely be there) I was happy to find a none dragon-riding book series, so do I think they should have never been introduced, no, I would be fine with adding scavengers to the plot after series 3 and make it part of series 4 if it happens.
Well if your a thomas and friends fan Then you know that the first movie of thomas and friends. thomas and the magic railroad was considered to be mixed up by critics and audiences Usually because i think humans take more plot then the other thomas the tank engine And also the movie was a box office failure And if you don't know about it it's usually follows the protagonist name thomas and his friends Living in island of sodor And also they are trains 🚆 With face And also the series was based on a book by wilbert awdry and also yes they had humans too I know they are different but it has the example of human take more plot than the other nonhuman protagonist But I kinda like dragonslayer
My opinion is roughly the same as well. I feel people hate on these little guys because they're humans in a dragons series. While I have a disliking for them in the third arc just sort of... being wedged into it with no rhyme or reason, I don't think they're a lost cause. The world building Dragonslayer provided is great, but it's locked behind the two worst POV characters in my opinion (Leaf and Ivy.) If they were as interesting and filled with character as Wren I feel the book would've been much better received. With that being said I would rather them have not existed at all. I've had this idea of Blister being the one who orchestrated Oasis' death by planting a dragonbite viper in the palace. It was killed by Burn, but not before taking the queen's life. The whole 'scavengers were the ones who killed Oasis' thing could've been easily replaced and nothing much would change. I wish they were just... more there. I'm not opposed a potential arc exploring scavenger and dragon relations, but the fact it came in the fourth book in a very contrived and awkward way just rubs me the wrong way. Darn, I'm ranting again.
Honestly- why do they get so much hate? i love seeing dragon-human interaction! what makes a human in a dragon worlkd so hated? its not that big a deal
I loved Wren and Sky, like LOVED them, especially during my recent re read of Dragonslayer. I like the scavengers, I just don't like them being more integrated into the main story, even though I think there's some fun story potential there.
Lore: million years pass scavengers try to go to a moon and then after 3 days 2 of the moons crash on the main planet and all dragons die and stuff and then after that "earth" cooled down and then scavengers came back to earth as humans
I honestly kinda like scavengers, mainly Wren,Foxglove,Undauntable,Rose/Flower and Stone, but I really relate to Ivy as well, but I still like dragons more,I don't mind their presence in the plot!
I don't hate them, but I don't usually get too attached to these kinds of books where a human is a protagonist, (but I did enjoy the I Funny books from James Patterson), also I only have 2 arcs so the scavengers don't have much significance to the plot back then.
Personally I can tolerate scavengers existence in the series. Honestly if they don’t make any MAJOR problems with the series we know and love, they are not a big problem and shouldn’t really be a huge debate in the fansom
Scavengers appeared a few more times outside of your mentions. In book two tsunami comes across I think two on a boat on the middle of a storm. She saves em in hope of it providing good karma or something so she can find the summer palace. Also winter sees one when younger watching some polar bears. Just some more I can can remember you didn’t mention
I loved Dragonslayer. I loved Wren the most. Leaf was okay and Ivy was a good character but like you said the other characters were overshadowing her. One of the parts I loved was when Wren called Deathbringer Murder Basket. It cracked me up! (Don't judge me I just really love Deathbringer) I also loved how everything tied up with what happened in the main WoF books. I also don't hate scavengers because well, they're us! I'd also love a Dragonslayer too because I want to know what happens with that king. Another reason I love Wren is because she speaks dragon! She speaks dragon! And she wasn't judging dragons! (At least not after she met Sky.) I also love sky because he's sooooo cute! And he speaks human! I could rant on forever but overall, I like scavengers, but I still want Wof to be a dragon book. (Btw I haven't read book 15 yet)
Personally, I don’t really mind scavengers. But I feel In some books they are perfected, in others they might feel to forced into the plot. The scavenger In the first book of the series was in my opinion a very good introduction to scavengers as a whole in the wings of Fire universe. It shows us how the majority of scavengers act, and how they look to dragons. It might be the time I read it, but I feel dragonslayer too quickly forced scavengers and their culture into the plot. But the way we have wren and sky in flames of hope is a good way to introduce scavengers into the plot then slowly introduce axolotl and all the others. Winter’s scavenger also felt like a forced way to have scavengers become introduced into the plot. I feel like Tui gave him a scavenger only for plot. To give winter a reason to look more like an a-hole to be honest. The majority of the time, scavengers feel forced open the plot of whatever book they are in, or feel to quickly introduced. And even sometimes like they don’t have a particular reason to realistically exist within the universe of wings of Fire.
I like having humans in it you get cute stuff like Wren and sky and flower and smolder. As well people forgot an moan about scavenger. New flash the war was cause by them Heck the scorching is use as age .
Jeez after they appeared in several wings of fire books and the fans and readers itself don't mind it That is until dragonslayer where they starting to hate scavengers even they don't mind it for several years since the 2012 release of the first book
I enjoyed the book dragonslayer, but its kind of irritating how suddenly scavengers where a big plot at the end of the book. It would have been better if the characters interacted with them more often to understand how intelligent they really where instead of Wren appearing.
Personally arc 3 would’ve been better if they kept scavengers mysterious and not understandable. Like keeping them like actual animals. The whole “Language” thing was confusing because they both talk English yet somehow don’t understand eachother???
I just don’t like how they act like dragons and scavengers are on the exact same level, biology-wise Like, are you seriously trying to tell me that a human can make the same throaty growls and roars a dragon can? Are you *seriously* trying to tell me that a dragon can make the same complex vocal noises a human can? Are you ****seriously**** trying to tell me that everyone of each species will be completely willing to coexist with each other someone 3 times/one third their size?
I might be in the minority for this but I think a lot of the hate on scavengers fueled mostly by the fear of another dragon rider series is more or less a form of paranoia. (The TL;DR to this read is I think dragons vs scavengers is just like Icewings vs Nightwings and they both represent the lesson that we can be better than those before us and mend the rifts between sides even in fueds that go back as far as thousands of years. Putting it here if you dont want to read my long comment lmao) I think the involvement of scavengers in the final plot is very comparable to the Icewing vs Nightwing divide from arc 2; both sides with thousands of years of history in divide being mended and united. Also I beleive it's going to take way too long until Scavengers get on any sort of level with Dragons. There's simply too many dragons and they're much bigger. The idea scavengers will overtake the plot and turn it into a dragon rider series simply isn't possible at this point in the series. Dragons *just* realized scavengers were sentient and had their own language, and before they even realize it their queens outlawed eating them. What you get is most likely a couple years of disagreements unless everyone met Wren and Axolotl right away. Additionally, pre Scorching had better reigns to be a dragon rider series because the world of Pyrrhia before then was exactly like the worlds of current dragon rider medias; dragons scarce and isolated in caves. The dragon rider medias like Eragon and HTTYD had the implication the humans (and elves to an extent) were dominant and outnumber them by far. It's the exact opposite in WoF and the dragons exist in their own kingdoms and societies. It's no wonder Scavengers were seen as pets until Dragonslayer. The fact they can talk and dragons recognize that doesn't change the story as much as people think. At most you have dragons like Sky, Winter, and Smolder (and probably Snowfall and Qibli too) just trying to spread the word and make sure the humans don't get too cocky. And maybe in the future Sancturary becomes the first (and maybe only) human-dragon settlement. It's a long way to go and Scavengers don't have any way to redominate the dragons to before the Scorching. If we think about scavengers vs dragons just like Icewings vs Nightwings, it doesn't sound as bad. You have the one person (Diamond and Cottonmouth, and Darkstalker to an extent) trying to keep the divide and dominate over the opposing side, their determination lasting thousands of years and finally being squashed once and for all because our main characters realized there is no reason to be so divided, and we can be better than those before us. It feels like a good lesson if you think about it.
Scavengers don't make any sense evolutionary. In such a scenario were dragons become the prominent top species, humanity would either devolve strongly to the point were they'd be unrecognizeable, or simply die out. Interestingly this was something said in the HTTYD books were the dragon Furious said "Humans and dragons can't share the planet!" Another issue I found was that if humanity progressed so far technologicly in the past, then why is it all gone, why are their no remnants of it? And lastly the explanation of the scorching is absolutaly lame and leaves more holes than it answers. Like why would humans "need" dragons if they were so technologicaly advanced? It makes as much sense as dinos in the military in Jurassic World, no sense. I guess Cottonmouth just wanted a pet dragon.I personally for the scorching always imagined a Reign Of Fire scenario but its medival. But ah well. And lastly I always feel uncomfortable when the dragons talk about humans. They get so dehumanized that its hard to tell what they are from the book description. I know thats the point but I still feel uncomfortable about it.
To the question of why humans need dragons as weapons, I think the answer is: humans, before the scorching, were not a high-tech race. From the memories of the Cottonmouth, it was possible to learn that humans were still using swords as weapons and wearing armor at that time. It turns out that technologically, the human civilization was a cross between antiquity and the early Middle Ages. Then the dragon legend of scorching looks really out of place. All these stories that "scavengers ruled the world, could easily kill dragons, sent the sky with black smoke (a clear hint of factory production) and could create all sorts of things" now make no sense at all.
I'm currently reading the second arc so I cant say much yet but so far I enjoyed ehat I've seen of scavengers but I do get the worry of them possibly becomjng too much of the focus
I REALLY hope the animated series confirms that yes, scavengers are much smaller than humans. Other than that I don’t have that big of a problem with them.
Scavengers add an interesting dimension to the story. Having said that, they shouldn’t dominate the storyline. As said before, there are more than enough dragon rider books out there. If humans became extinct in the WOF world, I wouldn’t mind.
To be honest I really don’t enjoyed dragonslayer with a scavenger point of view yet again that was the first wof book I read so I’m bias. However I think we’re all going to have to get used to the scavenger point of view as the series a panda and scavengers will probably be a main plot point (Imagine getting a heart from Rogan)
0:58 wait, did people not know that scavengers were humans, but with a different name? It seemed self evident the way they are described to be humans, but of course they are called a different name by dragons.
In the first arch, the scavengers were described in such a way that it was impossible to say unequivocally that they were humans. Although it was clear that they were something humanoid and possessed intelligence.
I genuinely think making humans important in the series was one of the worst decisions Sutherland made, as it took away some of the main appeal of the series, that being that it focused exclusively on the dragons. Also, as other people have mentioned, the time and method by which Sutherland decided to make the humans important to the main plot felt a bit random and forced. As for the human characters themselves, I don't think I could disagree more with 4rcane, as I found Ivy and Leaf to be at least passable while I found Wren to be an uninteresting borderline Mary Sue character. It never felt like Wren went through any meaningful struggles; she doesn't seem to have any lasting flaws, and her characterization stays the same throughout the whole story.
A 📚 series based on dragons tribes just should be about them but human can be part of their world and have their own story eg for ones (if their is reason) that lie them but central series should be dragons only it was build up as that so do keep it this way more dragons 🐉it good to have a different way of doing one
oh my god?? completely irrelevant but i just realized the way that you draw humans is fairly similar to how i draw em, and i probably learnt a lot from watching you make dragons
I hate scavengers because they are invasive, greedy, and violent. They will eventually be like "oh so dragons wont eat us? We will take over again." They will eventualy try to kill all the dragons and take over Pyrrhia
I don’t think that will happen, there’s too many dragons to slay. It has already been stated that the dragon population outnumbers that of humans. Humans may be greedy, but they’re not dumb. They know if they try to take over Pyrrhia, the dragons will easily squash them.
@@starstorm1267 not for long humans breed like rabbits there will be so many that they will either revolt or just plain overtake the land and then dragons wil slowly loose room
@@theSlush_Winglet Dragons literally have functional societies, 10x bigger than humans, have Diamond hard scales, way stronger, can literally step on a human and human dies, fire, venom, sharp teeth, the ability to fly, the ability to scorch the earth, camouflage, frost breath, night vision, can lay a whole clutch of eggs at once (which counters your Humans will breed like rabbits point), Firescales, can breathe underwater, Forseer and mind reading powers, can travel between two continents with ease, an extremely strong scent of smell and the same level of intelligence as humans.
For the most part I judge the characters individually as CHARACTERS no matter where they come from. I don't love or hate scavengers as a whole, but there are a couple I legitimately hate. I hate Ivy's father Heath because he's a greedy person and an awful person even to his daughter. I hate the dragonmancers from Wren and Leaf's arc (obvious reasons). And I hate the Invincible Lord because he's unoriginal, non-threatening, and doesn't even DO anything in the end aside from being a foreshadowing device for Cottonmouth. I'm indifferent towards Undauntible, because he has potential that has not yet been fully fleshed out. But the other human characters aren't that bad.

Yeah but they didn’t play a big role
another is in book 1.
I AGREE I'm pretty sad about the humans being introduced...
I agree about the scavengers ,and I love your theory !
He's a pacifist he'd never take a side in any war
HTTYD and WoF are VERY DIFFERENT!
Yeah
I disagree, mm ok
True. It was simply dropped in there at book 14 and at book 15 they were friends all of a sudden. Way to fast…
Dragons will continue to be the main characters. But humans will now take a more active part in the further plot and events.
I knew scavenger meant human from the first moment they were mentioned
I never understood the hate for them.
One reason I picked up Wings of Fire because it’s one of a few fantasy series with animals or non-human/humanoid creatures as the protagonists.
Scavengers were in book 2, during the storm there were scavengers in a boat
I want to know what happened with Undauntable, son of the Invinsible Lord
I was quite happy with Dragonslayer, and it performed amazingly at the thing it was supposed to be. A spin-off from a new perspective.
I however hopped for a few more spin-offs and worldbuilding and the implementation in 14-15 felt rushed…
This. This is why ur my fav. The years where to be during vikings time mainly so it's kinda obvious they'd have humans,
If Tui T. makes another Wings of fire book about scavengers which she probably will I would like it to be more focused on Wren.
Same. She is the most interesting by far
I personally think that the scavengers becoming more involved is giving the series more opportunities for story telling, and a VAST amount of lore potential
especially with the duality of the species learning more about it others intelligence through both species realizing that the other can build buildings, forge things and create art
plus would be a potential future villain
we've seen evil queens, we've seen evil god like beings with daddy issues, we've seen so much magic stuff
humans would be a nice twist, like with the invincible lords ominous declaration of his plans at the end of dragonslayer
Also I just find it a little silly that a lot of people just complain that dragonslayer is about humans, and it's "ruining the uniqueness of the franchise"
guys, we have 15 mainline books, a prequel, and 4 short stories with dragon POV's, I think one book with three human POV's is completely reasonable
Small correction 2scavengers were found in a boat by Tsunami in the ocean book 2
I pretty much only love scavengers like Wren, Axolotol, and that stuff
"winter the most emo and reclusive dragon" love that
I do love the humans in books because, one: it makes me, a human, feel more connected to the story because I can put myself in their shoes more easily then magic dragons, and two: i grew up as the how to train your dragon content was coming out, so seeing dragon and people living together like this is amazing, and takes me back to that time of seeing the movies coming out. Thats my view point and I do get what she said about Ivy seeming like more of a background character, which is a shame because the themes of her and her mothers story should be put up a little higher, even if its "just a kids book".
I actually never hated scavengers, because they are humans, and iwas was surprised to see this!
Well if your a thomas and friends fan
Then you know that the first movie of thomas and friends. thomas and the magic railroad was considered to be mixed up by critics and audiences
Usually because i think humans take more plot then the other thomas the tank engine
And also the movie was a box office failure
And if you don't know about it
it's usually follows the protagonist name thomas and his friends
Living in island of sodor
And also they are trains 🚆
With face
And also the series was based on a book by wilbert awdry and also yes they had humans too
I know they are different but it has the example of human take more plot than the other nonhuman protagonist
But I kinda like dragonslayer
Am I the only one who knew immediately about what scavengers are?
Lore: million years pass scavengers try to go to a moon and then after 3 days 2 of the moons crash on the main planet and all dragons die and stuff and then after that "earth" cooled down and then scavengers came back to earth as humans
I honestly kinda like scavengers, mainly Wren,Foxglove,Undauntable,Rose/Flower and Stone, but I really relate to Ivy as well, but I still like dragons more,I don't mind their presence in the plot!
I LOVED dragonslayer. Easily something you can re-read. I love Sky and Wren! Easily my favourite characters!
In book 4 there is a map with every scavenger outpost that is known, and most are marked meaning they were burned.
I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the topic of the video, but I just wanted to say that I love your drawing style!
New flash the war was cause by them
Heck the scorching is use as age .
Jeez after they appeared in several wings of fire books and the fans and readers itself don't mind it
That is until dragonslayer where they starting to hate scavengers even they don't mind it for several years since the 2012 release of the first book
I enjoyed the book dragonslayer, but its kind of irritating how suddenly scavengers where a big plot at the end of the book. It would have been better if the characters interacted with them more often to understand how intelligent they really where instead of Wren appearing.
Same. I like humans told by humans, but humans told by dragons are just awkward (if that makes sense?)
I like wings of fire
Same
Caught ya on 8 minutes from upload!
I read the title as 'Overrated' instead of 'Overhated' and I was like: *yeah*
Book 2 tsunami saves the ones in the boat!
Personally arc 3 would’ve been better if they kept scavengers mysterious and not understandable. Like keeping them like actual animals. The whole “Language” thing was confusing because they both talk English yet somehow don’t understand eachother???
Dragons speak a sort of translation of English, humans speak actual English
@@osheridan yeah but it’s barely ever explained in the books???
@@RmationYT It is explained, not that it needs to be because it's very obvious.
I just don’t like how they act like dragons and scavengers are on the exact same level, biology-wise
Like, are you seriously trying to tell me that a human can make the same throaty growls and roars a dragon can?
Are you *seriously* trying to tell me that a dragon can make the same complex vocal noises a human can?
Are you ****seriously**** trying to tell me that everyone of each species will be completely willing to coexist with each other someone 3 times/one third their size?
I want to see someone on this platform hate on scavengers
I will laugh for eternity because there just Humans
The only scavenger I liked as a character was Cottonmouth....that says alot
Oh, thank you, I actually like the scavengers and think they're very overhated
I loved dragonslayer so much
I might be in the minority for this but I think a lot of the hate on scavengers fueled mostly by the fear of another dragon rider series is more or less a form of paranoia.
(The TL;DR to this read is I think dragons vs scavengers is just like Icewings vs Nightwings and they both represent the lesson that we can be better than those before us and mend the rifts between sides even in fueds that go back as far as thousands of years. Putting it here if you dont want to read my long comment lmao)
I think the involvement of scavengers in the final plot is very comparable to the Icewing vs Nightwing divide from arc 2; both sides with thousands of years of history in divide being mended and united.
“Are scavengers really that bad?”
“
Yes, yes we are
Scavengers don't make any sense evolutionary.
Has literally EVERYONE forgotten that Tsunami saw scavengers on a boat in her book? Don’t ask me when but I KNOW they were in there!
I want a book in the point of view of the dragons during the scorching, 😩
I like scavengers and I kind of like the Dragonslayer book, it's not my least favorite but it's also not my favorite.
I think humans in the book are fine lol-
Also that DRAWING LOOKS SO COOL THO-
I never knew you could draw so cool-looking humans! Amazing.
Scavengers are SO agressively...
MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID!
My favorite characters in wings of fire dragon slayer or undauntable and wren they are a cute ship
I dislike most of the other povs, apart from wren, because her bro got me mad, and ivy got me bored
To be honest I really don’t enjoyed dragonslayer with a scavenger point of view yet again that was the first wof book I read so I’m bias. However I think we’re all going to have to get used to the scavenger point of view as the series a panda and scavengers will probably be a main plot point
(Imagine getting a heart from Rogan)
What
@@LeafeonTheCat what what
0:58 wait, did people not know that scavengers were humans, but with a different name? It seemed self evident the way they are described to be humans, but of course they are called a different name by dragons.
I thought they were lizard people at first
In the first arch, the scavengers were described in such a way that it was impossible to say unequivocally that they were humans. Although it was clear that they were something humanoid and possessed intelligence.
why do you tell people to subscribe twice in the beginning?
I don't get it why people say that the scavengers are bad even tho some scavengers were kinda important besides Wren
I hate the humans in the series. The 3rd Arc didn't need that many humans
Am I the only one who just wanted to skip all of Leaf’s chapters and go straight to Wren?
I wanted to do that as well
I hate scavengers because they are invasive, greedy, and violent.
We are humans and we don't like hearing humans dying
... Am I weird cause I love hearing humans die
@Aiden Burke I mean in books. I see that was ambiguous
Hmmm
Imagine if goku was a scavenger in wings of fire💀
