5:38 I think it's worth noting that the queens have considerable power over which students go where. It's also probably relevant that Thorn had JUST started being queen a few months before, so she was likely stressed out and confused. What I think may have happened is that Onyx applied and Thorn was like "Honestly, I couldn't care less," and just signed the dotted line. After all, how much would you think about one dragon wanting to go to a school when the fate of your entire tribe was in your talons? Then again, as an aspiring author, I know that we make boatloads of Plot Holes in order to get to the next Plot Point. It's all for the greater good, right?
Because she’s a cranky old woman and probably lied about her age she she could learn more about Sunny. And she most likely felt comfortable telling other dragonet students because the only dragons that she needs to keep her age from is the Dod.

But yeah she totally could have been talkin about her age because she didn't think any of the little kids around her we're going to go blabbing about how old she was to the dragonets because why would they honestly
(Looking for other opinions, a debate, discussion, etc. Not a fight) This feels a little out there. The DoD state that it's a school for any dragon to learn about the other tribes, and from what I noticed, Onyx is very good at hiding her true intentions; they have no reason to deny her a place. To Sunny, one more dragon wanting to attend is one more dragon willing to help stop a war. I'm not gonna talk about the rest cuz you make good points, I just say that the DoD aren't really to blame? They want to stop wars, and they still haven't had much experience with the world, and the continent is at peace, so why would they suspect Onyx of anything? Also, you're right about Tsunami, but I think there's a passage where Tsunami says she wanted to be "Head of Recruitment" and they rest said no? So I'm guessing Sunny kept certain things fron her.
iirc jade academy was just beginning or at least still getting used to the ropes and bringing anyone of any age in to learn, create friendships, etc, is a good move, or at least DoD did it with good intentions. but it would have made a whole more sense if an adult dragon was brought to a different area of the academy made specifically for them and peers, as well as taught by the Talons of Peace as they're the same age if not older, if not ToP guided and given a curriculum by the DoD. But the fact alone Onyx was allowed in, again, I think dod had good intentions for allowing her in, but at the same time?? It is questionable. And she and other dragons who had ill intentions were either punished or even expelled (very much expelled and banned from the area entirely for onyx), i just hope if there is a 4th arc or even a winglet that the Academy has grown to enforce stricter and more clear rules and guidelines. If a dragon is much older than others then they'll be questioned and background checked only to be put in an area of the academy where they are taught and reside, if not rejected entirely. DOD hears the critique and learns from mistakes that shouldn't have happened.
Jade mountain is to structured, like most of the arc 2 and 3 it is "preplaned" in the moment and that stops organic things from happening, like the icewings pulling their students after a BOMB attack
