Yeah. He grew up in borderline abusive conditions because his mother let the house get this way many years ago and smoked and was so lazy. He has no one now to help him get over the fear of change. And now he is "busy" so he can lean on that as an excuse to continue to hoard
and/or he wanted to make enough money to play wow without a real job and not change.

Ngl, I can understand not wanting to move anything after a loved one passed away. After one of my grandparents passed away, i never had the heart to move anything. Even his pants that he placed on the chair with his wallet in them never moved, they stayed there exactly where he left them for several years until my grandma sold the house and moved out. Maybe it's a coping mechanism or something idk
My dad died in 2018. My grandfather is still alive, my dad was taking care of him. I "inherited" my grandfather (now 95) and my dad's house. So I moved cross country to stay with my grandfather and here we are, 5 years later, and I still can't bring myself to throw out my dad's stuff.
This has nothing to do with his mom passing. It's not like Asmon became rich only after she passed. He was still in that house as a millionaire long before she died.

Cleaning a house like that actually takes less time than you think we had a friend in our irl group living in a smaller house like this but equally dirty, spider webs and mold everywhere.
think it took us 2x 3 hours to clean his and his brother's room to 99% fully clear and clean.
Get trash bags, get soap/cleaning products, wear gloves and mind on 0 and do it.

I had a similar experience back in college with one of my friends. I had a party at my house, spilled a beer on the floor, and she asked "are you gonna clean that up?". I said I was going to later and she went absolutely IN on me. Legitimately made me feel like a sack of garbage, but most of what she said was correct and got me to make some lifestyle adjustments.
