Nobody does it like Patti. Nobody will ever do it like Patti. Patti doesn’t try to copy anybody. Patti doesn’t follow the trends, she sets the trends. Of course most don’t even try to copy her because they cannot …and they know better. This relatively “new era” of fast descending riffs and runs, started perhaps by Kim Burrell, is something that Patti has never really tried to do and doesn’t care to do. It’s not her style. She’s from a different generation. If you listen to her old recordings from the 70s and 80s, she had a lot more melisma and wild acrobatics, infections of jazz, and all kinds of impossible high notes and riffs. She may have calmed down some after the mid 90s, but she can still hit that C6 on command with full power and operatic-like resonance. Simply unmatched, Patti LaBelle is an American original.

What I like the most about her is that she is down to earth and nice. She is a “diva” in the musical sense, and she is extremely talented. But she doesn’t give into drama, she doesn’t shade people easily because they don’t like her, she doesn’t really shit on people who’s voice she doesn’t like, and she’s not so stuck up as to be upset if someone does a cover of her song.

@@TruthSerum101 well. I get your point . I've heard other singer do it but i don't think anyone can beat Patti at Glissando. I've heard her do it live many times and the way she manipulated those notes and the power. Other people I like doing it is vickie winans. Otherwise everyone else is blah.
@@itssteven4184 I respect your opinion. I prefer listening to xtina too. Tho Patti for me was more impressive vocally. But vocal technique doesn't rlly affect the singer weather you wanna or don't wanna listen to them. Technique play the big part for vocals but music not rllly. For example if you prefer listening to Ariana which is just atleast a decent or nice technique than aretha who ahd a very great, spectacular technique then its understandable.
This was not a riff #Clickbait. She climbed up a scale. Not very difficult and not very impressive. Plus, her tone is highly unpleasant to most people’s ears.
She did that G5

Whitney Houston is THE VOICE
The downward fast riff started way back 1920. I forgot the singers name but 1920 it started. (and yes that 1920 girl is not an opera singer).

Signature Patti Glissando 👏🏾🥰
That’s a glissando! 😍

The best vocalist to have ever existed in my opinion.
Scream, Patti scream
Yeah, because screaming on key. 🙄 Dramatic sopranos are SUPPOSED to cut the band.

She knew she ate "☝️" 😂
Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Jennifer Holliday definitely picked that up from her, it’s one of her trademarks.
Vanessa be killing those key changing sliding notes. You're right
That's not really a riff. It's called a glissando. She simply ascended up the scale. It's no big deal for most singers.
Cause most of them dont do it. Cause they cant.
@@willmartinez5496 It's easy to do. You just slide up or down the scale. No big deal.
