Ive seen her so many times, Ive lost count how many times...on both coasts. And Ive seen some other legendary singers. But Patti LaBelle is among just a handful of professional singers that come from that old 'chitlun' circuit' of the 50s and 60s. You can count them on 2 hands, and thats about it. And the vast majority of those folks are dead. She's one of the greatest vocalists that this country has ever produced. And thats not even a slight exaggeration. its just a fact.

Why would you compare the chainsmoking Dianne Warwick to Donna Summer? They are very different, for one thing. Dionne can sing, there's no question of that, and I all of her hits from the 60s when I was a wee lad. I also like I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again. But, during the height of Donna Summer's career, Donna was belting out this incredible notes, and when I would see Dionne sing, I always got very anxious because it sounded like she wasn't going to be able to hold a note, her voice always on the verge of cracking and too many cigarettes. She seemed to hit those notes she wanted, but it seemed like such a struggle. I lived in Los Angeles for 30 years and one day I pulled up to a red light and looked over. There in a red 2-door Mercedes was Dionne Warwick in the driver's seat, so I rolled down the window and said, "Hey Dionne! Do you know the way to San Jose" but she either didn't hear or she didn't think it was funny. I also liked DIonne as the host for Solid Gold. Donna Summer was the only person to ever guest-host Dick Clark's Saturday TV show, American Bandstand. LOL. I just don't think you can compare Warwick to Summer. Too different styles of singing. Besides, Dionne Warwick was more my parents' style and more their generation (and they had some of her records, and still might), and Donna Summer was mine.

I love that black people are finally realizing how much of a Powerhouse vocalist ms Warwick was especially in her heyday. I wonder is her ability as a pianist assist in knowing what notes supposed to sound like helps in her ability to sing them.. what i love about ms Warwick her high notes weren't overdone it fit where she placed them...

Whitney could sing like that cause she was born with that Gospel in her HEART and SOUL !!!!!! ❤️ I listen to all her Gospel songs and other songs of hers still to this day 2024 and I'm white and 68 yrs old !!! I think I was born with loving Gospel , I've been listening to it since I was just a kid , it just sets my soul on fire with the Lord !!! Lifts me up to where I want to be !!! Amen !!! 🙏
