They cost the same as a Tesla, but haven’t got access to the full supercharger network. I’m not keen on the look of Teslas, but if I was spending that sort of money I’d want as much charging coverage as possible.

I test drove one 2 years ago when they came out. Really enjoyed it, and it would probably be the EV I'd go for if I had to buy one today, but I ended up getting a 2021 Kia Stinger, got almost all the same tech available with less reliance on touchscreen/touch buttons, and more actual buttons. Plus an awesome soundtrack (with an aftermarket exhaust). If you haven't tried one before I'd highly recommend it (and would be happy to let you use mine)

I occasionally drive a car launched in 2022 and the first job is to switch off all the ‘driver aids’. Sometimes I forget and the car will brake unexpectedly or the steering will stiffen up when it thinks I’m leaving my lane, an issue confounded by the car being so darn wide it doesn’t fit into it’s lane on some of the roads near me.

I got the EV bug nearly ten years ago and currently I drive a 58kW ID3 with the built in bike carrying facility. ( Very rare). I had the 77kW turquoise model used by VW in the ad campaign but it tipped the scales at around 2 tonnes affecting handing. EV’s are fantastic to drive though, so quick off the mark and no danger of stalling one.

Few months ago looking to change my Niro plug in I drove one of these.I decided it didn't feel special enough, more style over substance & it was just too big (wide). Ended up with a Sportage plug in, much better value for money and due to the state of the charging infrastructure in this country the least stressful option.

I like genius innovation that changes the world, whether it happened today or 10, 20, 30, 100 years ago.
Still not sure about the modern EV thing though, is it a Betamax or a VHS? It seems to be a flawed product at the moment - great in every respect until you get to the very patchy charging network and find yourself waiting a ridiculous amount of time to continue your journey. A product in desperate need of breakthrough innovation to make it genius?
Is that going to happen or is this another Betamax/Sinclair C5/LaserDisc? 🤔

Cars today are only supposed to last for the next greatest and best tech. Only people that really 'maintain' cars today might last 20 years, but yes I agree, just wait until you have to replace the entire 'screen ' it will probably cost more than the car is worth in a couple years.

EVs are great for short journeys, fine if you don't have to rely on the charging network and can charge at home. Long journeys are a nightmare, take into consideration extra time to stop to charge. The electricity network cannot handle EVs now, things need to improve. They cost too much to and you won't believe your eyes if you check the depreciation. Insurance is more expensive, compared with ICE cars. They need to make some sort of noise to warn people that they are coming, being so quiet. Other than that they are alright, but not for me.

I cant buy a modern electronic appliance like this until it becomes more user and maintenance friendly. I use a computer all day. I dont want to use a touch screen in the car. I want lots of tactile buttons and knobs. And if there are computers onboard, I need them to have excellent diagnostic functions. Otherwise these cars will soon end up as landfill when only the dealer can fix them.

I wonder when any EV manufacturer will ditch digital dials and touch screens for conventional dials and switches. They may appeal to us elderly technophobes then as we are the only people who can probably afford one. The fewer electronics the lesser the chance of a vehicle fire which appear to be on the increase listening to the traffic reports on the BBC or local radio.

    • @furiousdriving

You are exactly correct. People that drive ICE vehicles over long distances on a regular basis are the reason why just a small percentage of drivers are responsible for the highest amounts of pollution.
