the purpose of life is to experience it, to experience Existence
628 views in only 12 minutes? Damn bro, you're really bringing philosophy and critical thinking to hundreds if not thousands of people's lives, keep up the good work.
It must be nice, right? Meanwhile, while others are trying to get just 100 views in a YEAR... it's pretty sad, lol. 😂
It’s honestly his work is more insightful than hearing “go pray about it” 🙏🏽
this video’s take really clicks with some of the things I've been reading in unveiling your hidden potential by bruce thornwood
I had no idea that Dostoyevsky was Kant's favourite philosopher. Insightful.
You could have gone 20 more mins into this and easily kept my attention. More impressed each time you cross my feed. Know it takes work. Thanks for doing it.
I really don't think Raskolnikov murdered for "infamy and attention" at all
@@seanburke6521 that was my thought too. He did it because he thought he possessed some special characteristics which gave him the freedom to act according to his own beliefs. Even if those beliefs harmed others, they were justified because he was a higher man
@@nathanielbeha833didn't he literally just do it for the money? In fact it seems like he wouldn't have done it if he didn't think he was going to gain something financially. Honestly everything else seemed like an after thought or excuse.
@@DBZHGWgamer Yeah I agree with this. He was broke asf and thought the land lady was a a-hole. Goes in with the intention of robbery, then ends up murdering out of necessity. The comes all the punishment.
@@maxdepthpodcast No, he clearly intended to murder her. It's just that the reason he decided to do it was because she had a ton of money and knew she must keep all her money in her apartment, and he knew she never left her apartment. He also thought no one would really investigate it much because everyone hated her. What he didn't intend was killing her sister, who he thought was going to be out of the house.
I thought it was because he wanted to test himself, if he was an "extraordinary man" (who, to him, should be able to kill someone easily and not have trouble with it because they are above ordinary morals as long as they're fulfilling their destiny or whatever). he chose to kill who he did because she didn't provide anything and she was generally disliked anyway, also had money which would help him fulfill his destiny.
this is making me want to move his books up on my waitlist
same
Probably the best compliment you could give an author! We'll said!
Read it! Don't leave it for the waitlist. Start with Crime and Punishment, Brothers Karamazov and Notes from the underground are less exciting reads in my opinion
Yeah he’s one of greatest writers ever, I’ve read all of his work more than a few time’s - you’ll love it
Dostoevsky was a brilliant man. Letters From Underground is my favourite book from him so far, I liked it more than The Brothers Karamazov.
Also, his Christian faith played a massive role in his philosophy.
@@brando3342 I'd recommend reading The Brothers Karamazov for a second time. Doing it right now and am able to understand and appreciate it a lot more than with my first read through. It's really deep and profound.
@@Wadda14 OOF. I appreciate the recommendation, but that was a tough one to get through, it took me 6 months lol Not saying I didn’t like it, I loved it, actually. If I could choose a “favorite part” it would have to be the chapter called “The Onion”. The way that bit is put together is utterly brilliant.
I love how detailed the characters are too.
Not saying I won’t read it again, but I just have too many books to get to, to do that one again so soon haha.
I hate to say this, but your introduction to Raskholnikov's character is factually wrong.
He didn't commit the murder to gain fame "not thinking it through" - he committed it to see and prove to himself that he is strong enough to do it, a "great man", willing to do anything to improve his life and the one's of people around him (the old lady was a moneylender, living off of other people's work).
This stands in contrast to Dostoyevsky's moral values, which, close to christianity at that time, dictated that a crime will never lead to improvement, which is a result of becoming a better person with good deeds.
Great video otherwise, love to see Dostoevsky in the spotlight! Keep up your great channel!
He failed to understand Dostoevsky’s philosophy in general, because he is constantly trying to avoid Christianity. It’s painfully obvious, and ends up ruining his content.
your backround drawings improved a lot - it really gives a nicer contrast to the stickfigures. Great job
I am grateful for this video. It was well made and I got new insights into life, also the editing is very well done. I could watch these for hours if I had the time. Thank you!
The MF DOOM paraphrase 😂 goated
I better not be the only one who appreciated that! 😂
I don't know why I thought that line was about rakim instead of MF DOOM, R.I.P to one of the goats 🕊️
what was it pls
@@jjhassyI’ve heard people call MF DOOM your favorite rappers favorite rapper but not sure that is what they are referring too
Thank you for your valuable content! The editing based on simplicity and... JAZZ, my god I love it, deserves a prize. You and your team are geniuses!
Found your channel few days ago , and now watching all your old videos. Great content ❤
Love the background sketches in this one! Super cool video
I love this video! Other ones about Dostoievsky are just sums up about his life or the literal content from the books. This is something I really wanted, another vision, trying to go deeper into the ideas portrayed in his literature.
I don't like the fact that the sponsorship segment on this video is a fourth of its entire runtime, which is just enough to hit the 8 minute mark required for midroll ads.
I can't tell if you're joking but you sound like a privilege fuck. You basically aren't paying anything for this content. This guy's spends hours making this and probably doesn't get paid adequate for it. He deserves to get paid by his sponsor and ads
@@purplehaze2358 bro needs to survive to spread knowledge, skip the sponsorship part if it bothers you so much
use sponserblock extension
bro doesn't know about addblockers(
It doesn't bother me that much, but I think these replies are not intelligent and miss the point of the criticism. Your solution to something that someone says is a nasty behavior is "The behavior is necessary" (debatable) and "If you don't like the nasty behavior, simply avoid being its victim" (unserious).
And actually, these two different solutions are contradictory. If it is indeed _necessary_ for the video creator to survive on sponsorships, and ads, and so on, ergo it is perfectly permissible for him to do what is necessary to survive, then in fact, I CANNOT avoid them. I can only not watch the video, which simply starves him without insulting him by watching his content (taking what I want and giving nothing in return that was expected). But if I watch the video, then morally I am obligated to watch the ads and sponsors. If the ads put food in his mouth, then by using adblock, I would be taking the food out of his mouth, even while enjoying the fruits of the labor that was supposed to feed him in the first place. These defenses cannot simultaneously operate to excuse the behavior (assuming it requires excusing).
Started reading him recently and this came perfectly in time thank you!
It's been a while since I read Crime and Punishment so I may be misremembering, but I thought that Raskolnikov committed the murder because he wanted to convince himself that he was a "great man." The whole journey he went through, particularly in his conversations with Porfiry, is that he himself didn't believe that he was a great man and that the murder was senseless. I found it to be, if even unintentionally, a really interesting book on crime because the murder was created by his conditions of abject poverty. Though, really you can argue it's a book about pride and how the gap from your sense of self and true self causes suffering (see: Luzhin and Marmeladova).
Not specific to CaP, but I really wonder about this.
One the one hand, anyone can be pushed to barbarism, so the question becomes what is society doing to reduce these circumstances, and if little; who really is to blame (or at least share it)?
On the other, some crimes are so horrific to be beyond redemption, and laying it in terms of personal growth seems trite. I suppose being resolute that you won't commit mass murder anymore is progress, but seems pretty far from from grace to even be worth mentioning.
And on the gripping hand, it is all such a muddled affair that simply keeping yourself from circumstances where you have the potential for evil isn't really embracing life either, but if that is the best you have to offer...
The center of the moral framework shifts depending, and are largely incompatible.
I'm an atheist with a devout brother who discovered each other with the death of our dead beat dad.
Dostoyevsky hits a special place lol
Just recently went through a bout of phychcosis, during the lead up and aftermath it's felt like coming out of a cocoon. I have embraced many aspects of his philosophy without knowing it :). To call it life changing is a understatement. If anyone wants to chat about it, or mindsets in general, reply :)
I feel the same way. Had a bout of mania and while I'm currently suffering, it feels like I've come out the other side with a deeper knowledge of myself and the ways that I can hurt others as well.
He's wonderful, I try to pull a lot from him in the music and lyrics I write in my band
when the camera moves but the stick man doesnt react, I must imagine sissyphus has vertigo.
Mr. Sisyphus 55, I can not help but notice that a lot of the shirts on the spring website are out of stock. This deeply saddens me, as I would like to buys some. I have been watching you for a while and I think it is high time I get some merch, plus it looks swell. Is it in your control to restock? If it is please do! And please continue the content it is spectacular.
Oh just realized it is a new video. Love ur content. Much luv 4 u 2
Dostoyevsky took me a long time (still) to pronounce properly…to the point of dreaming about my having to articulate it accurately in order to progress any further within the dream… 😵💫🙃🙂
Next video: The myth of finding meaning in life /j
a sisyphus video with perfect timing, AGAIN.
these vid vids are always top tier
Crime and Punishment is obligatory reading in Poland, or at least it was. One of the best books I had to read in school, one of few I actually enjoyed
I aspire to one day be able to read Dostoyevsky in Russian just to see how funny of a person he really is lol. He’s less serious than most people think. Reading notes from the underground for the first time was so funny to me when he was all like SIKE-did u really believe all that rambling lmfao
love ur stuff bro
homie really made 1/3 of the video an ad
it's shit like this that makes me feel like people make content just to get the money and not actually give a shit about their topic
It's been my biggest issue with his content, but it's clear he cares about the subject matter. He is just also getting hundreds of thousands of views on his videos, so he would be missing a lot to not get some money out of his work. I understand the complaint but do realize he can make enough off youtube to continue his studies and with no worries of financially falling behind. You would do the same I am sure i would. just probably less time dedicated to ad space.
@@fitzwits To be fair, his videos aren't deep dives but a smorgasbord-like collection of aspects that would be shown if each philosopher had their own intro 101 class + some really wholesome animations.
I think it comes down to understanding your expectations a bit better tbh
The fact of the matter is one really cannot make a living on the internet these days without taking sponsorships and working to optimize monetization. If you think he was really only after money, why would he do philosophy? There are much more successful formulas out there he could ape and make a lot more money, easily.
Quite bitching and skip the ads like an adult.
@@coldravioli7839 nice strawman. He can make videos that earn him a living without making 35% of the video length an advertisement. Especially without even marking the ad space so you just get to search around for the end of the ad only to find it’s the entire goddamned rest of the video
@@fitzwits didnt he get the story of crime and punishment fully wrong though
Be nice to your self ✨
I think I know my purpose or at least my potential and I’m not satisfied with it. If I could come to grips with reality perhaps I wouldn’t be so miserable.
"Make your own purpose"
good stuff!!
the purpose of life is to experience it, to experience Existence
Pervious video title was good, the one "Finding Your Purpose: The Philosophy of Dostoevsky"
The current one "Your Favourite Philosopher’s Favourite Philosopher" isn't better than original
Bro atleast you couldve given me a heart, after you changed it back, Imao
1/3rd advertisement and credits, nice
My personal philosophy is that it's not about finding your true self, but more about accepting who you are and who you are going to be in the future.
Beautiful
What if my favourite philosopher is Dostoevsky? I mean, literally, my favourite writer and philosopher is Dostoevsky. I can speak russian, so it was easier for me to read his books.
Can you do a video on Tolstoy please?
I thought Raskolnikov killed the old women for her money, because she would not be missed. Not to gain infamy. I definitely have to read it again now
That's how i describe kant or hegel lol
I am from India. It's 9 pm right now.
Philosophy is the unification of science and art?
No and yes.
No, art and science are their own things.
Yes, art and science are their own things.
However, if you're attempting to connect it to something, modern philosophy forms a lot (but not all) of, the basis for psychology
@@jehorigby8778 Yes! Thank you
Love your videos but I think this one falls short in accurately describing the man and his philosophy.
whats your favorite fydor book?
Please look up the pronunciation of Camus.
Where'd the Charlie brown intros go???
❤
Unfortunately, if the world around you is against what you've deemed as your purpose... yer sunk. 😕 There's literally *nothing* you can do; you'll always be wrecked and no one will help to uplift and aid you in your quest to achieve whatever it is you're doing. Unfortunate, yes... but that's how it be.
Chill out Nietzsche. Life is not like that. Find Jesus, nihilism is hopeless.
Rodion did not commit the murder in pursuit of fame, lol
Wow
Raskolnikov murdered because he had a god complex. It's nothing as simple as infamy and attention. The majority of the book encompasses this belief of his and he maintains it till before the very end when he confesses about his guilt and realization to porfiry petrovich.
Does life have meaning?
❤
0:55 fame seeking????? For attention????
Mate did u even read the first 3 chapters?
I have a purpose but I am to lazy

It’s so crazy that you finally talk about Dostoyevsky 😭
I was wondering when you would finally talk about him.
Dosyevky
you really couldn't think of 2 more minute worth of stuff to say about dostoevsky? I get needing a midroll and a sponsor but like jesus man almost half the video's the sponsor and credits
Chappell roan ahh title
Need to up your thumbnail game lil bro
Platforming "mysterious ruzzian soul" AND cramming an enormous ad in the video?
This is a well deserved unsubsciption.
I always found Fyodor Dostoevsky reactionary. He just rubs me the wrong way 🫤
