The same ! "Coal" and "Bilateral" are my favourite Leprous LPs... Incredibly rich and exciting musical & emotional trips... :) But the last one is amazing too... ... [Uh... "Mariusz"... I feel like I'm talking to Mariusz... Duda ! (from GREAT polish band RIVERSIDE... ;-))) ]
Julian Joyce I can only agree with you, twice. When Bilateral reaches the end, Coal starts. When Coal... :) And same as Mariusz Duda, I am from Poland. Fortunately, we have a couple of talented musicians over here but imho Leprous > Riverside.
(I'm from France ^^)... It's hard to compare such different styles. 2 great bands but a different musical approach (with both a very high level of artistic and technical achievement). But they've got things in common : intensity - deep/heavy emotions in kaleidoscopic colors - hypnotic impact - huge work on arrangements, vocals & production... Anyhow, good music and impressive performers ! :)
the same here, i can't get enough of their music. bilateral was also my favourite for some time but now i'm kinda leaning more towards coal. one thing that baffles me though is how the fuck did they come up with such an inappropriate name for themselves. not that it's important for me personally but i think it is an unnecessary obstacle standing in their way of reaching a larger audience.
Completely agree ! Coïncidence, one day ago I wrote this in another comment : "It's fascinating how this 'sick' band named "Leprous" ^^ makes my ears & soul healthier... :)"... Haha ! Apart from their stunning technical level, there's something so powerful in terms of emotion. I remember the first time I listened to pieces like "Foe", "The cloak" or "Echo" (in Coal album), it nearly made me cry... ... (I say "nearly", hey, wow, shit ! I'm a manly & strong macho man, I never learned to cry ! (^^ !...! ^^)... )
Third Law live is my passion. Einar's vocals are so energetic, the guitars give off some amazing energy to the performance, and the drumming is just awesome!
I agree that much of it has to do with the over-compressed and reverb-less mixing of the album. But in the case of this particular song (not the rest of the album), I think Einar's vocals in the verses are very weak in the studio. And yes, Leprous do slay live ;).
...And now I'm gonna argue with a six year old RUclips comment. Yeah, this sounds "better and more powerful" but I feel like The Congregation was _supposed_ to sound like that. Like someone left a record out in the sun for a month and it kinda just wants to die, now, Einar included. It sounds like he's straining and in this case I think that's kinda perfect.
@@greggjaeger6616I was lucky enough to see both of them in their separate tours within the past few months, and honestly? I cannot pick a favourite. They were both SENSATIONAL
Funny you say that, because the way it's done in the studio recording, some of my favorite vocals in any of their songs. Like he's been left out in the sun for too long. The whole album has that vibe, it's uncomfortable, and for whatever reason I like when Leprous sounds like they're making a backing track to my sleep paralysis demons.
Guys, you've got to buy that DVD, really... To shamelessly drop a hint, on Forced Entry (arguably one of their best songs, and one of the trickiest rythmically), during the guitar solo, previous drummer Tobias Andersen joins Baard Kolstad to do the rest of the song - his part originally - on a second drum kit. It's surreal, both the precision and the friendship! They're touring in Europe in the coming weeks starting early February (with Devin Townsend), flight ticket and hotel booked already... :D
Haken, yeah, yes, yes !!! :) "The mountain" really punched me ! (and their last LP "Affinity" is a wonder of creativity !) Otherwise, what about TesseracT ? Is it your 'stuff' too ? ;)
And it's not even his best performance. Actually, is one of his worst performances I heard of him and that doesn't mean it's a bad perfomance, it's really good. Einar is one of the best singers right now.
Yesss, a-ma-zing ! It's fascinating how this sick band named "Leprous" ^^ makes my ears & soul healthier... :) (And sorry, but I really have to add this : at the same time, "I'm falling madly deeply in love with"... your pict... ;-) Really !)
;-) ... Apart from your musical passions, you're a photographer (or photo/graphic designer), right ?... I love when an image gives emotions, thrills or intense feelings... (I'm an illustrator & comics artist)... Is it your self-portrait ??... (Sorry, yeah, I know, I guess I'm too curious.... ;)

Every note played has a definitive space to fill and there are some quite tricky little undertones if you can catch them. The VOICE........I remember listening to one of the VERY FIRST Prog Metal bands, FATES WARNING back in the mid 80s and hearing John Arch sing with a very similar (as similar as can be I suppose) high range, note heavy delivery and tbinking....this man uses his voice like another fluid instrument in the ensemble. Songs like Fata Morgana. EXODUS, Guardian and Valley of the Dolls.
i'm so glad to have discovered this band a while ago because they just sound ALIEN - it's a big soup but the harmony and the voice(s) are just completly original and nuts - unique !
If you like this you should check out Steven Wilson, Coheed and Cambria's Year of the Black Rainbow -album and Steve Hogarth -era Marillion. This is like a love child of all that stuff mixed with fresh young energy and performed really well.

They are huge. Friggin huge. Monstrous.

they got :-)
@@rojorojo2509 DT, Haken
@@MadGladiator-_ Haken is pretty small when it comes to audience. Leprous is much bigger than Haken, and may be close to DT.

Would love to hear Devin Townsend collaborate with these guys.
Fuck yeah!
So Devin can play Higher and they can play Lower? :)
a little collusion is always welcome
devin & leprous my 2 fav
Except... he doesn't so much collaborate as much as tell people what to play. I love DT tho.
Third Law live is my passion. Einar's vocals are so energetic, the guitars give off some amazing energy to the performance, and the drumming is just awesome!
It's honestly amazing how much this song is better and more powerful when played live as compared to the studio version!

Those high notes, my goose bumps will not leave. I love this band and their harmonious creativity.
Its hard to listen to the original now because of how hard Einar goes with the first line in this song. So much more impactful.
Yeah, he really just goes all out for live performances. I don't know how he sings like that for an entire show.
@@finnthehu200 Einar's got some amazing control over his voice. Many, many, _many_ hours of training and practice has been put into that!

One of the only modern prog bands that actually sounds good live. Like, really, really good.
einar vocals on fire!
When he started singing my jaw dropped. I have seen some videos where he didn't quite up to par with his studio vocals but this shit was amazing.
I want to get him on a keytar though so he can rock out with the rest of the band
His voice is really amazing! Can't stop listening to Leprous!!
Both the band and the mixer are amazing.
When he sings better then literally everyone on the radio....
And it's not even his best performance. Actually, is one of his worst performances I heard of him and that doesn't mean it's a bad perfomance, it's really good. Einar is one of the best singers right now.

Leprous has a very low bass string to guitar string ratio.
