Soen, the dynamic, mercurial, and titanic Swedish progressive metal supergroup, have decided to re-release their first two albums, Cognitive and Tellurian, on Silver Lining Music January 27th 2023, reviving these benchmark steps in the band’s progression.
Reinterpreted as a live orchestral composition, the melodically haunting, Savia from the debut Cognitive, also appears in Soen’s most recent release ATLANTIS, the special concert film featuring the group’s most popular compositions. Watch/Listen to the recently released Savia at this location
Cognitive will enjoy a first-ever vinyl release, which will include the bonus track “Written” as well as full lyrics. Tellurian, currently out of print, will also be reissued on vinyl.
Cognitive saw drummer Martin Lopez (Opeth, Amon Amarth), vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Testament), and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis create what Lopez described as “melodic, heavy and intricate” songs which illustrated the scope, range and power potential Soen held. They would further develop those sensibilities and expand upon those dimensions with Tellurian, Stefan Stenberg coming in on bass, and the deeper, richer melodies alongside personal performances which pushed the limits of excellence, have seen the initially-limited release album establish itself as a core album for Soen and their fans. Both albums were produced by the Grammy Award-winning Dave Bottrill, who has worked with Peter Gabriel, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, and Muse.
Always provocative, engaging and ultimately a deeply entertaining experience, having these two rich and vital pieces of Soen’s story released under Silver Lining Music represents a moment of principal importance to the band, with every recorded chapter of their career thus far finally in one officially endorsed home, and future chapters to come on Silver Lining Music.
COGNITIVE and TELLURIAN will be available as Gatefold double vinyl releases, with artwork and packaging curated by Martin Lopez. A limited-edition “Black Friday” bundle featuring extended liner notes signed by Martin Lopez and Joel Ekelöf is available to pre-order here until stock lasts.

To think that I discovered Soen only about a month ago and that I heard they were coming to Montréal this Saturday about two weeks ago. Can I tell you that it did not take me more than 5 minutes to get myself a ticket? I can't wait! These guys sound amazing!!!!

There are just a handful of Bands who manage to really give me goosebumps so hard it physically hurts, and Soen and especially this Song is in the Top 3 of being able to achieve this. Love this Song, love this orchestral rearrangement of it, its Gold, its Timeless, a true Masterpiece. Thanks for sharing your Art with us Soen.

@@NordicRick Depends on my actual mood tbh, if i´m melancholic the other 2 are black from pearl jam and edge of seventeen by stevie nicks (very random genres I know :D) if I´m in an more upbeat mood its probably more sth like leprous - the sky is red or wasp - wild child and many songs from Tool (favorite band so hard to pick a song ). but thanks for the tip with borknagar, nice forwarding goin song, definitely gonna save that song in my library :)

I dont think this is true at all, I always hear this about Joel but his voice is much more like that of an oprah singer. Simular in some ways to maynard but in general, no.
alguna vez visite a Martin en su casa de colon ,( la de Palito), y me dejo hacer ruido con aquella bata hermosa q tenia...al escucharlo tocar se adivinaba un buen futuro....q gran compositor, y emociona mucho escuchar ese homenaje de Antagonist a sus raices politicas.
