- The friendly folks at DDAE show us another sunroof installation. This time its on a late model Dodge Charger. Learn as you watch so you to can cut a hole in your perfectly good car's roof. There is nothing like a sun roof, so get a cold beer, your tools and get to it.

I would only point out three things as a sunroof fitter for the last 40 years 1/ we use an air-chisel to cut a small v cut opening in the middle of the cut out area NO fillings at all . 2/ From day one when using a shear to cut the roofs { best tool in the world for us sunroof installers} we were shown by the sunroof manufacturers {Holandia now Webasto to cut in an anti clockwise direction , the way the shear is designed it will force the salvaged metal up and away so there is no distortion on the remaining roof skin . Last one sealant is always applied to the underside of the sunroof frame not onto the roof itself , I suppose that one is not compulsory but it is a better way to appply without dripping sealant onto the seats etc .

I drive a '10 RAM Laramie C/C Shortbase 5.7L.......So, with the moonroof up, I backed into a commercial garage door opener(spotter said, "Clear!". lol) and it broke the sliding arm/connector/ t-track on one side. It functioned for a while, just fine if I pulled that corner down a bit just as it was closing. I had kept the 'T' for awhile but my toolbox got stolen a couple weeks ago, so I don't have it:( .......At some point the other side came off the track and I could lift the glass right out, with no power. Just sat in there. Everything still works great, motor, tracks, very clean, but ofc it doesn't take the glass with it. Always stayed dry.
My questions: 1. Can you buy just the plastic arms? with the 'T' or separate?
2. I checked out the Pik-n-Pull. (Not a single truck with a sunroof); I was walking out and there was a Caddy CTS.... with a sunroof. I know it sounds stupid, but the more I looked at it the more I was convinced it was the same unit, or at least the frame and glass, the arms I wasn't sure. The overall fit, I didn't have a tape with me, so I don't know. I found the parts on Rock Auto, Mopar and GM but they don't have the specs with them........ So, Are these arms somewhat universal? The roofs themselves? Or maybe1 or 2 manufacturers that coincidentally end up with the same parts in some vehicles?
3. Do I need to remove the whole frame assembly to make this repair? (Already have the liner off)
Hope I'm not putting you on the spot, i'm getting desperate, been 2yrs. Tx, either way.

Thank you for uploading this. I just bought a replacement sunroof which is pretty much exactly the same as yours and i was wandering how to fit it. Mine did come with a few rolls of different sealant tape but it looks like its not needed if you just use tube sealant.

Might get one, then wrap it so the sun doesn't shine in. No air con in the old ute, and I like the look of a pop up sun roof.

Im installing a CRL 20x32 sunroof in my el camino the only thing unsure of is when u apply the clear waterproof caulk and lay the top frame down... do you then go ahead and mount the bottom frame right away or do you let the top frame and caulk dry and seal before mounting the bottom frame???
All of these leak. I had one on my old civic now I'm deleting it with a piece of aluminum and riveting it on
Not my experience, maybe different factors play into that. Had an aftermarket sunroof like this installed in my '87 VW Golf GT in '88...sold it in '92 and it was still like new....never any leaks. Aside from the ground effects install, the sunroof was one of the best things I did to it. Lot of fun.

ok job, you should have peeled the headliner back and tucked it. i installed roofs for about 6 years and i hated the look of the trim ring....

It's better u buy a second hand car already attached to it rather than buying a new panaromic roof...cuz it gonna cost you £1000 for installation

First, get some quality hole saws for metal.
Firstly DO NOT use a hole saw , it will spread metal fillings all over the place and when your cutting if one metal filling gets under the cutting tool you will be up for a new paint job as it will scratch the SHIT out of the paint .
Hole saws will ruin the paint

Zmansk88 OE sunroofs are made to fit the curvature of the car, so that they don't leak. They are also designed to reinforce the body of the vehicle, to replace the metal that is not present in a car with a sunroof. Cutting a hole and cramming a piece of glass into it is a big mistake.

It did leak and we ended up cutting the roof off completely. I forgot to install my SIM in the camera and did not get the video. Will try again next time. Thanks for your comments keep watching. BDP
