It might be possible if the rumoured switch two is powerful enough and it would be true if the storyline is actually good and so is the gameplay (personally, I think they should use all mechanics from the entire mainline series and combine them into one game as well as having all regions and maybe something similar to the anime's Master's 8 Tournament)@@Naoto_Otaku
Rather than forcibly remaking old games into 3D and destroying the atmosphere of the work, this technology is used to preserve the atmosphere of the time and play with beautiful graphics.
Ys: the Oath in Felghana is one of my favourite videogames of all time and arguably uses a similar base technique of 2D sprites within a 3D environment, and it pushes that style to the max with amazingly designed levels and bosses. I'm learning Godot so I can try and take what I love about that game and turn it into my own style!
I like the story of dragon quest but I hate the first person battle system. Feel like dragon quest needs to get away from the dungeon crawler battle system. Feel same about earthbound.
I really like the artstyle but back when octopath was announced I instantly said that we already have a name for this... 2.5D cause games have been doing this for a while. Though not always pixel art and with as cool shaders as octopath. Cause there is paper mario and danganronpa as examples that quickly come to mind. Unless HD 2D is specifically talking about the use of lighting/shading effects on 2D?
Yes HD 2D actually is mostly about the post processing and using modern lighting. But in the end it's just a marketing term they created. 2.5D is actually a quite confusing term since it seems like everybody thinks it means something different. Some would say street fighter 4 or donkey kong country returns is a 2.5D game, which I agree with. So there isn't really a way to differentiate 2.5D games that use 3D models from 2.5D games that use sprites by using that term.
@@HorsiMusic That's literally just isometric. Unless you mean like how Ragnarok Online did their Isometric 2.5D style with 3d models and not purely pixel art isometric like simcity.
Reminds me of 3d dot heroes. It didn't actually use sprites but it had that look of having low red graphics mixed with more modern post processing effects
This is just a continuation of what have been used previously, especially in games in the PSX era and some for the PS2 and PSP where they were mixing 3d polygons on pre rendered background or 2d sprites on 3D background, just in high res with modern 3d effects. If only the 2d portion can be in high res, at least 1080p as well. The most high resolution 2d art (real 2d, not celshaded or similar technique) seems to be 720p, with those fighting games etc in the PS3/360 era.
