double thumbs up on changing the Shortcut Forwarding Engine and Flow Acceleration. Doubled my download bandwidth from 400mb to 990mb. Much more inline with what I'd expect with fiber

I have 2 of these routers, one set up as router, the other as AP in bridge mode with wired connection. Will I lose that functionality by going to dd-wrt?

When you upgrade to DD-WRT make sure (If your router has the feature) that on the Basic Tab of your router you set the Shortcut Forwarding Engine to CTF and the Flow Acceleration CTF & FA. It makes a huge difference in the speed of the router.

Hello Sir for router Netgear R6800, can it config VPN ?
Yes, it should be able to do VPN. DD_WRT firmware is available for it so you should be able to flash the router and get VPN up and running. The CPU is a little slower at 880 MHz (Strange that the r6700 would have a 1000 MHz cpu) but give it a go and see how it works. I have a netgear r7000 I bought it a get years ago already flashed with DD WRT already on it, but I haven't updated nothing in years can I upgrade it just like you are showing on this video and add a vpn
Yes that should be possible. I will be making a VPN video in the near future and I will be doing it on the R7000 as I know it has Open VPN support. TIP: If it’s already been flashed with ddwrt make sure you update your firmware using only the web flash firmware and not the factory firmware 😊

Finally did the DD-WRT on my R7000 tonight. I have 300MB Spectrum internet, but my PC is connected to the router wirelessly. I made the changes you suggested. I was getting only 170MB download before DD-WRT. Now I've lost 40MB of that. Not happy. I was setting this up to put a VPN on it, but now I'm second-guessing the change. A VPN will suck even more of what little bandwidth I have left. Bummer!

@@richardlloydusa Thank you. I'll play with it...but I may have jumped the gun. 24 hours later I ran speed tests again and everything seems better now. I'll check again a few times. If the bandwidth stays the way it is, I'm happy. Now onto a VPN 👍
Great, but definitely on the Basic Tab of your router set the Shortcut Forwarding Engine to CTF and the Flow Acceleration CTF & FA. It makes a big difference in speed and you will need all the speed you can get for VPN.

@@richardlloydusa I did those changes when I rooted it. Every time I do a speed test now, I've gained 40MBs over the 170 I had before the firmware change. Thanks man! 👍
