    Who Am I?
    I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot-related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands from time to time!
    I have owned boots for decades, but to be honest I have owned them as functional pieces of footwear. It wasn't until early 2020 when COVID struck that I started online shopping boots to an obsessive degree. I love the aesthetic of boots and I love finding out more about how they are made. I now own an insane number of boots, and one day I may sell some of them (just not right now).

    Certainly green with y mate. Quality is not based on the country but rather what you demand of the makers of your product. There are certainly reasons why one would want to purchase items from their home country, let alone their individual community. However, a gentleman ought to know quality when they see it regardless of where it comes from. I can see the quality you are talking about and that welt connection is always visible on redwings and so on. Very interesting that he heel counter is on the inside, I like that. Another great one my friend!

    Patents for the Dainite sole, if applied for, would last for 20 years nowadays, though it may have been a bit different when they were invented. Regardless, I think it is safe to say that the patent rights have expired.

      They’re not water PROOF but water will bead initially, so rain is ok, but I’d be wary of puddles. No I haven’t joined SDPT - too many boots to wear one pair for 7 months 😂

  • @aradoran
    @aradoran Год назад +2

    Teik I’m not a patent lawyer but I’ve worked in Engineering/Technology for companies that hold patents, and basically patents have a limited duration….something like 17 to 20 years. This is so that companies cannot block competitors out of a market/technology forever, which would stifle innovation. But it’s enough time for innovative companies to make a good profit on new technology.
    You also can’t really “renew” or tweak the design slightly and get a new patent. Like if you made the round studs ovals instead of circles. That’s not really a novel design. So you probably couldn’t get a patent for that.
    What could potentially still be protected are copyrights or trademarks. Like if Dainite had always marketed that sole as a “Micro studded sole”. They might have been able to trademark that so that other companies can’t use that phrase to market their sole.

    Great review! Excited to order a pair of Ottawas in Crimson CXL and I’m debating whether or not I should go for Dale’s sizing strategy. Do you feel as though employing it with these improved comfort? (Seeing as they’re the same last)

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  Год назад +1

      I find Dale’s strategy works but I don’t feel a great difference in fit. To me, I’d go your usual size unless that’s sold out, then go an extra half down/one width up to get a pair that will still fit.

    new sub - nice break down of the boot. doing boot shopping right now so perfect timing ;) I must say, this is very well done. Keep it up, i can see your subs grow and channel being successful. Too bad it's seude as that's a cheaper leather quality but other than that, it's a beaut of a boot.

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  Год назад +1

      I know. A waxed roughout would have been better but the price would be more, and Stead’s Waxy Commander is a pretty good tannage.

    • @The_Zilli
      @The_Zilli Год назад

      @@Bootlosophy i think that might be one thing for you to touch on more with your boot reviews, is the tannage/tannery if you're able to find them out. I think to a lot of us, we have no idea what makes for a good tannery/tannage on a boot. Nevermind the whole mess of trying to sort out if genuine leather is premium leather or bottom tier leather as it can be both depending on the leather worker. Like if you know tips of how to spot a good tannage on leather, that would be very useful. I think channels like this are a blessing to the shoe industry as a whole, not only does it inform the customers but it will also force companies to produce better products once more folks become educated about what makes a good shoe/boot versus one that will be ready to toss into the garbage bin a years time.

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  Год назад +1

      @@The_Zilli thanks for your thoughtful comments. I try to scatter information about construction method, tanneries, sole brands and so on, but it’s a heck of a balance between information and length of the video. There are a number of “usual suspects” in all of those things so I try to focus on one thing here, another there. However, I take your point. I guess you might have to see ALL my videos to catch all the explanations into different histories of tanneries etc 😂😂😂

    • @The_Zilli
      @The_Zilli Год назад

      @@Bootlosophy working on the other videos but you're right, folks don't want to spend an hour to watch a full in depth dive of every boot but the information that you do provide has been insightful. Having spent a lot of time researching leather in order to pick up a leather jacket has kind of morphed it's way into st;udying leather gloves and now with those two out of the way, working on the boots. The reason I bring that up is that during my research on leather with jackets, there really wasn't much emphasis on the tannery of the leather from what Ive noticed and that the price of the jacket seemed more to do with brand names and sizing than the quality of the leather itself if that makes any sense. While shoes, seems to be the complete opposite, where there is very special attention to each specific part of the shoe construction including the type of leather used as many shoe companies with limited boot options offer the same model boot under a slew of different types of leathers. Something you do not see in comparison with leather jackets or gloves for that matter. Very odd and interesting at the same time. In any event, keep up the great work, and I will be sure to watch your other videos to learn more about the tannages.
