Don't be afraid to wear that suede in light rains, it definitely won't ruin the leather! The CF Stead suede has been tanned to protect them and also, even if not...a simple suede shampoo and fully saturate the uppers so they even and good to go!
Just got the grant stone chukka in kudu, wow what high quality. Rose anvil cut them in half and they are top notch and super comfortable. Love the leather soles, it is a real mystery why so many people say they are slippery becuase once worn a bit they are no more slippery than Dainite and they breath and my feet sweat less, which no rubber soles can say. I may try GS dresss shoes next.
GS is awesome. I found out about them mid 2022. I started out with 3 pairs of TBC boots and then the beginning of this year, I finally bought my first pair of Ottawa’s in crimson cxl because I saw the Tankers by Alden and I loved them but I didn’t want to spend north of $900 for a pair. I loved them so much I bought the Dune Cxl Diesel’s and then the black cxl Diesel’s with a leather sole. All 3 of my GS boots were perfect. Not a whole lot of loose grain and creases but I wear them sparingly throughout a week. I am currently breaking in my black cxl Diesel’s because those are the newest air of Diesel’s and I love how the welt, midsole, and outsole are natural and frame the rest of the boot so well. I love the leather soles and they are like walking on a firm gel pad but so comfortable. I love them but I also miss the rubber soles too that’s on my Dune CXL Diesel’s. I was trying to pick between the black cxl Diesel’s and the Ottawa’s. I couldn’t decide so I flipped a coin and it landed on the Diesel’s and I don’t have any buyers remorse. I think GS is far superior to AE and on par with Alden’s. You can’t ever tell where the welt joints are on the boots. They are always so perfect. I don’t know how they do it but my 3 pairs are perfect. If I wanted to be a little picky, the left boot of my black Diesel’s weren’t done as well as the others but they are good enough. I am a GS fan for life and I used to have a thing against buying mic stuff but majority of the boots parts are made outside or china. They are only “put together” in China like our iPhones so I can’t hate too much but my reason for boycotting mic stuff is not your typical reason. It’s not about their sweat shops and poor labor practices. It’s because I was born in Taiwan and since I could remember they have been trying to kill my people. That’s my reason for not wanting to support China.
I have the Brass Boot in black chromexcel with the lug sole and the black calf traveler penny loafer. Both are as good if not better quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail than my Alden Indy’s, Oak Street Bootmakers Feld boot, and Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill boots, which cost $60-300 more than GS. Don’t sleep in this brand, and give them a try!!
Grantstone get to come with a dark brown cap toe. Their oxfords are good quality leather in both the sole and upper, and their oxford last is classic and versatile, doesn't need to scream.
I have a pair of Ottawa's that I recently purchased because I couldn't find a solution to my Alden Tanker boot problem. I found that solution with GS and I started out with Thursday boots and GS is miles better than Thursday but they do make a good boot.
I got my GS Ottawa Tunker boots black just arrive yesterday. its a Beautiful shoes The quality is excellent i love it. i trust the Durability of this boots even Made in China.

The Higgins Mill pale in comparison to the high level of craftsmanship and quality control that the diesel boots have for over a hundred dollars less. Although the Higgins Mill are more comfortable out of the box and have “weatherproofing.” I find that after breaking them in it doesn’t feel like I have enough support underneath my feet. They feel similar to a pair of sneakers. There’s nothing wrong with sneakers, but for the price and usage, I think you should be getting more. They just seem very cheap and flimsy compared to the diesel boots.
@BenoProductions I ended up getting the black marbled shell Higgins Mill and idk what AE does to make their shoes so comfortable but it's noticeable over the GS. Overall I'd say the GS shoes are wayyy better built and are much high quality shoes/boots. I like both 🤷♂️
@@bassheadlife492 nice! Yeah the Higgins Mill aren’t bad per se just severely overpriced, even with a price difference for being made in the US vs China. Unfortunately, the reason why the Higgins Mill are more comfortable is because they use more synthetic materials like foams and leather-board. The Diesels use almost none, with thick pieces of veg tanned leather as replacements, which understandably gives you more rigidity and therefore less comfort. There are pros and cons obviously, but I think the more synthetics you use, the lower the price should be. I think that the Higgins Mill aren’t even that much different than a pair of Thursdays, which run for $199 each. (Or $265 for made in the US)

really nice for not being made in america, out're shoe industry almost completly gone, and that makes me sad, even shoe repair is pretty much gone, it's a throwaway world now! but what they sell even cheap is sold not at a throwaway price.fortunatley i was never hard on my shoes i pair i still wear is 58 years old , hell i still have my army basic issue that are 55 years old
That's always a debate each time I wear them. 😅 I probably just choose a medium brown belt as my go-to. I also have a grey cloth belt, and I probably use that too in more casual circumstances

Just got them in true size. The shoes are nice, well made, not over dressy not clunky. Some minor blemishes in the calf that make no difference and will go away with polishing. The fit is comfortable and your left foot will thank you for buying these shoes if you drive a manual transmission. The Allen Edmonds Park Avenues fit is better, if they could just steal the dam park avenues last I would also ditch the more formal ones for Grantstones.

Meermin are solid for the price, definitely! They have a much more rough break in period, unless you going their flex sole or unlined loafers etc. With that said, once you break in the Meermins are a solid entry level GYW and while the finishing is definitely not super high, they are a great value. Grant Stone may cost a $100 more but even better materials and finishing.

I have their blue suede loafer, it’s so nice. I want one of their longwings next, just can’t decide on pebble grain or regular calf.

They're very different shoes. Redwing specializes in work wear, while Grant Stone is more of a semi-dressy shoe.
