    Gents, Alden has raised prices. My favorite cordovan boot of Alden's is $970 (Color 8 tanker). Basic cordovan shoes (loafers, bluchers) are high 800s. Most of regular leather shoes are approaching $700.

    I have two pairs of GS Longwings, wore one pair yesterday (same British tan as this pair). I moved on my pair of Alden Longwings. There isn’t an advantage to Alden, other than heritage and more/better lasts. I do have two pairs of Alden boots that I love, their lasts are more elegant and more arch support, but GS is just an incredible company and I have way more GS products than anything else. Great work here guys, thank you for the video!

    Great video! I’m actually a huge Grant Stone fan. I own 16 pairs of GS and the quality is amazing. One thing I would like to point is that Grant Stone boots & shoes are made in a high quality plant in China and all of their materials are American, Italian and from other countries. They make high quality shoes & boots that could easily cost $600-$700 if they were made in the US.

    I used to think I knew my shoe size! That was until I went to an Alden retailer! I was fitted with the proper size, and it made a big difference! Also, Alden has a ton of widths! From A to EEE. I like the Grantstone product, and I believe Alden is their inspiration! But overall the buying experience I have with Alden outweighs the cost savings! And I agree, I prefer a leather heelstack! But that's a simple and low cost change!

    Great to see you're back! I had been anxiously waiting for the next video these past few weeks.
    I loved the approach here, with the two shoes worked in parallel. It is both interesting and educational. Now, one quick question that I got: I understand that the stacked leather hill is the superior quality options, but what are the practical downsides of a cardboard heel? If a show like Alden used it, I (in my ignorance) imagine it shouldn't be that bad.

    • @TrentonHeath
      @TrentonHeath  Год назад +3

      Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
      The leather board isn’t bad. It’s definitely not something that would prevent me from buying a pair of shoes that I want. It’s just in this comparison, Grant Stone is going that extra step by providing leather heel blocks. In short, leather board heel blocks work fine, but they can also tear during a resole. Most cobblers try to be careful when removing them, but they can easily tear. If that happens, the owner will now have to pay for new blocks and/or additional work. Leather blocks don’t tear easily.

    I found a pair of wingtips at a thrift store for only $2 that look very similar to those grant stones. The company was called Dexter I believe, and I could tell they were nice quality shoes. The company was 100% American made and was owned by warren buffet at some point apparently. They went out of business in the early 2000s so finding this shoe in such good shape for such a low price was something I couldn't pass on. I took them to my local cobbler, (Andy's Shoe Repair) located in Omaha, NE. They did a resole and I asked them to dye them black since most of my boots are black. What an amazing job they did on them! Leather outsole with Vibram heels and they are probably the fanciest shoe I own now lol. So, I basically got a brand new, already broken in, pair of really well made wingtips for $140 plus the $2 I bought them for! I did have to wait a few months, and even thought maybe they forgot to call me to let me know they were done, but I waited patiently and finally got the call! Just remember guys that these cobblers that do a dang good job and take their time fixing your boots/shoes have a lot of business and it will take some time before you get your footwear back. But it is worth it! So be patient and trust that they will put in the care and time necessary to fix yours. Great video guys!

    As owners of a brick-and-mortar retail store establishment, I would suggest that all shoes be purchased in-person from a shop that can ensure a proper fit. Sure, there is some convenience of ordering online - but, supporting the classic business model is crucial to those establishments staying in business.

    Diid you grade the type of labor with the CHINESE Grant Stone? Alden is made in AMERICA hence the higher cost due to the higher standard of living as well as the higher safety standards. The Grant Stone is made in CHINA for a fraction of the cost with an even lower safety standards. Were CHILDREN involved? We will never know, they were made in Chinese SWEATSHOPS after all. Alden supports American families, Grant Stone does not. That knocks it out of the park for me! ALDEN, MADE IN AMERICA!

      Grant Stone aren't made in a sweat shop. They have a 15 person factory in China and they are well compensated for Chinese workers. It's hardly a sweatshop even if it's not 100% up to American standards it's not slave labor.
