Installing 33 inch all terrain tires on 2021 Base Ford Bronco stock rims

- In this video I'll show you some options for upgrading the Base Bronco to 33 inch tires mounted on the stock rims. I'll take you to the tire shop to show you the installation process, show you the results mounted on my Bronco, and then also show you a detailed testing to see if there is any rubbing. Let's go!!!
These are the tires I installed: amzn.to/3EzgzL7

This is the kind of channel that has real value. Not the music, not showing an all-optioned out kit that was sponsored by the manufacturer or a dealer, but a real dude using his own real money for the benefit of a lot that might not have otherwise thought about this route.
That is my goal and you get it! Thanks very much for the comment
I'm so glad that all these base model Bronco videos are coming out!
Those tires look great! Glad you’re showing how you can make the base model look cool and perform well too. Much love from Texas!
Appreciate it!
I’ve always thought the stock Steelies look classic and really cool. I second that!
And that base model is a dang good price at like 28-30 thousand
@@BudgetBronco Certainly an advantage having the taller tires when offroading, the only disadvantage we noticed when changing old Land Rovers from 600x16 tires to 750x16 tires was a small loss in hill climbing performance and slightly higher speed when going downhill on engine breaking, l also prefer the look of the steel rims to the other alloy options, we can't get the new Bronco in England which is a shame because l think it would sell well especially with a diesel option, the only vehicle that comes close is the new Defender 90 Commercial and that doesn't have a good long term reliability score!!
@@cornfedwyteboy2 Right now 2 door is at 32k 4 door is at 36k
If your keep the steelies powder coated in white they should look good!
Looks great on the new tires. I look forward to your updates while I wait for my Bronco to arrive...
Thank you for showing us! The new tires look sharp! I keep hearing people complain about the wheels but those look perfectly fine! It gives that retro look. The more I search, I'm leaning towards the basic model and upgrade as needed... thank you again!!
Happy to help! The Base is a really good value and you don't end up paying for options that you don't really care about
I really enjoy your channel. After ordering in March 2021 my 4 door base finally came in Friday! After your video for inspiration….I applied the same size tires to mine, also keeping the stock steelies! I opted for the BFG A/T KO2 (mainly due to availability) And it looks awesome! Very pleased!
That is awesome!! Glad to hear it worked well for you...BFG is a great choice too.
This is going to be the Bronco build I’ll be most interested in, seen plenty 80-100k Broncos and Wranglers, this will be truly unique!
Thanks!
Great work explaining the mysteries of tire dimensions. We are seeing a lot of video work chronicling how much wheel and tire can be stuffed effectively under a stock Bronco. This helps make the case for Ford starting with a 33" (32+") tire. as opposed to those cheap slicks they ship with. Most of that rubber will end up in a landfill. So, from a practical and sustainability perspective, starting with larger AT's is a better move for everyone.
Glad it was helpful! Yes I would say a VERY small number of Base owners will keep those stock tires. Good news though, I sold them on Craigslist to a guy who put them on this pickup truck so I got a little bit of value from them.
Looking good. Glad you kept those original rims too. They're the best looking rims in my opinion with that simple old school look which adds to the Bronco vibe.
I 100% agree, I like the steel wheels best. And they are sturdy too! Thanks for watching
This video was instrumental in helping me decide on my tires! I put 33" Hakkapeliita LT3s on my base Bronco. It drives perfectly and it looks great! Fills the wheel wells nicely and gives me an increase in ground clearance and ride height by 1.5". Thanks for this!
This makes me very happy...glad I could help!
Do either of you have any regrets or advice on the tire size? How's your performance when driving on hills or off the line? Love the Budget Bronco videos!@@BudgetBronco
I've outer banks all terrain tires, would you recommend upgrafing them? Wont have extra road noice or poorer fuel economy?
Wow the tires make a huge difference in the way it looks!
New to the channel and have watched both videos. Love them. And those steelies look GREAT with those tires. Hopefully if I get a Bronco, then it is something I would love to do. Big sucker for vintage style wheels and steelies just look good with everything. Can't wait to see more!
Thanks for watching!
Looks good with the white lettering. Good tire choice.
33 is the standard size for Badlands, so it makes sense that it would fit without issue as long as the offsets were done right.
Nice!
This is exactly the video I've been looking for. Well done, straight to the point.
Awesome, glad you found it helpful!
33's look perfect on base 2 door. Could you do a video of a walk around to show stance from the rear, and head on. Thanks for the vids.
Thanks for watching, I will put that on my list for future videos
Love the retro look of the stock wheels and RWL. 285/75 looks much better than 255/70, great choice!
Thanks to this video I was able to make my decision with upgrading my base tires without any worries. Awesome video. Super helpful. Thank you.
Awesome!!! Glad I could help...enjoy your Bronco!
Love the channel. I have an budget bronco coming. Mine is just like yours except I am getting velocity blue and a brush guard. I am getting base two door. 7sp man, metal modular bumper and aux light switches. Those are the only options. I can’t wait to see how you build yours out.
Looks great. Super classic looking. I love that you have an articulation test area in your driveway lol.
Thanks! 👍
wow nice job, I ordered base 2 door with Sasquatch, wasn't keen on doing my own mods and getting everything right since ford put a lot of thought into balancing this vehicle's options but now seeing what you are doing I wish this video was available before I ordered.......Can't wait to see your progress
Getting Sasquatch solves and gearing issues and gives you the V6 w/10 speed. Just don’t do like a jeeper who spends the extra money for Rubicon then replace it all. 😂
Love it. Great choice going with the base and aftermarket add-ons.
Thanks 👍
Great job on the tires! Excellent job on all of your mods!
Glad you like them!
Your Bronco looks excellent with the new tires, nice upgrade!
Thanks 👍
That looks fantastic, love the white lettering. I wish I was able to get that option with my Falkens
You can "paint" the letters in. Lot's of how-to videos. I've done it before with great success.
Wow that looks shockingly good! I think this might be the vehicle to finally replace my XJ
Just ordered a Base Bronco, thank you for the info. I like the painted wheels and grille on you other video.
Thank you...as I like to say: Base Is Best!
Man I appreciate you doing these budget bronco videos. It looks great. Very Inspiring , Very Needed
Glad you like them!
Man I gotta handed! The plain Jane Bronco with Steelies looks great! But with larger tires in the steel wheels! Now it looks way better! Nicely done!👌😎👍
Thanks for the comment....the bigger tires are a MUST on the Base
Looking really good! Thanks for sharing your progress.
Thanks for watching!
The biggest advantage of the 285/75 16, it's available from a myriad of brands at almost every tire shop. 255/85 16s are much less manufactured, and much harder to find if you are out in the boonies. I went the same size on my Ranger with Tacoma wheels. Works great with a front end lift. Edit: with all that sidewall, they are excellent on potholes.
Those are great points...thanks for watching!
He should have kept the original wheels and tires and got a new set of rims with the new tires. He could have swapped them out for different conditions, street driving vs offroading. I love the looks of stock height on 33" tires though.
I just found your channel. Your Bronco looks great. Near my home in FL there is a 72 Bronco that looks a lot like yours for sale on the side of the road. I pulled over thinking I wanted to buy it. As it turns out, they are upwards of $200K. Wow!
Thanks for that! Ya the first gen Broncos are now insanely expensive. I saw one that was a completely burned out shell that sold for like $20,000
Base bronco looks great with 33s. Just subscribed looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for the sub!
I really like it! Perfect.
Little flash back: I remember in the late 80s and and early 90s when i was working at Sam's club, they had general grabber ATs in tires section. I ended up installing 285 75 15 on my then new 89 Wrangler base model Jeep. Back then my base keep cost 8999 brand new. I love awesome budget and good off-road vehicles
Something about base model steel wheels just look great. And the General Grabber tires are perfect upgrades.
Thanks Benny I appreciate that and totally agree, IMO the combo looks great, is very functional, and budget friendly!
Great fit and the RWL tires look great on the stock steelies. No need to upgrade the wheels at all. Perfect.
I agree! Some people don't like steelies but I think they look great, also very strong. Thanks for watching
Literally this one change perfects the look!
So true....thanks for watching!
Nice looking ride. Canceled my reservation, but I may jump back in when the chip shortage & markups are done.
Unfortunately I doubt the markups will be done for a long time
Great vid. Look forward for when you paint them rims!
Decided to to the grille first, about halfway through the job right now, video posted by the weekend. Rims next after that!
I love general grabbers, best on / off road tire I have purchased. I run them on all my SUVs
I have been very happy with them so far and I agree they are a good option for the middle ground of performance on and off road.
So much better! Ive seen some videos with 35s removing the crash bars but its tight. 33s look good
Looks more beefy and aggressive…love it!! Looking forward to seeing the rims painted. I really like Lenos restored Bronco🤤…can’t wait to see yours finished…waiting on my 2dr/BL w/Sas…. honestly don’t need all that but love the look…so maybe seeing your mod will convince me to change trims…I was a late res order so I’m sure I’ve got plenty of time w/how slow they’re rolling out.🙄
Thanks for watching! If you are going with a 2 door, and you aren't planning to do intense off-roading or rock climbing (and therefore don't really need the upgraded Bilstein shocks or differential lockers), then a tire swap like mine is a good option and will save you about $4000 compared to purchase of Sasquatch package. I think on the 4 door the 33 inch tires might look a little smaller.
Agreed! Thank you for the feedback…staying tuned!!😁
Looks great keep mpgs updated
Looks nice. I love the base model with proper tires.
Thanks! Totally agree, upgrading tires on the 2 door Base transforms it in to a completely different looking truck
Night & day difference!! Look great!! The new Grabber AT is much better then the previous, almost identical looking Grabber ATs. The new ones are much softer, but still long lived. The priors were such hard rubber and after a couple of years squealed on almost every corner, depending on what you drove and nearly useless in the winter once they hardened up. Silica is like a wonder cure!!
These tires are so very similar in appearance as to their original release back in the 80s boy unlike the BFG KO2s from the very early 80s or 1979!!! The compounds changed and improved over time of course. The casings definitely improved! The KO2 used to be called the All Terrain TA back then! Sometimes you can’t mess with perfection,,,,, hahaha!! I do also like the new amendments to tread design on the Grabber ATs.
I was 15 when I started working in a tire shop in 77, then at 17 I invested 1/3 in the shop. At 18 we caught a partner stealing so I bought that 1/3 and owned just over 66% of the business. At 19 I bought the final 1/3. At 21 was debt free. All the while I was working for my dad on the ranch as well, also finished high school. At 21 is when I leveraged the business and started buying the ranch!! It was a long haul to true $$$ security but I got there in time!! All the while, the Tire shop/front end and suspension shop (eventually) paid the bills, put food on the table and bought the occasional toy for momma or I. Unfortunately no kids. That made it quite a bit easier financially, but not so emotionally.
Retired at 55 after selling everything to relax,,,,, that’s a hard thing to do after working a minimum of 2 jobs since 15 years old! Haha. Even at 55 I would work for the Manager on Saturdays and Mondays once in a while to give him some nice weekends with his family. Still put tires on, worked with anything from bicycle tires to earthmover tires right to retirement! The bigger tires and winter changeover season really started to kick my butt!! Haha. This d*mn BFGs and Generals stayed basically the same ALL that time. Sold soooo many,,,,, even though Coopers, eventually, were my primary tires!! Haha.
Thanks for the comment! Sounds like a cool story. I try to teach my kids as well, there is just no substitute for hard work!! I am starting to think about retirement plans and hoping I can spend more time working on cars as part of that. Thanks again
Finally a base model! Thanks for making a great overview of a tire upgrade!
I personally think that the base model is the best looking version of the bronco
@@jonwalstedt1907 really with the stock tires you do? Or you just like the rims? I don't mind base but I want 4 doors and manual which isn't available for base I noticed.
Such a good video!!! Thanks for sharing.
Very nice looking, you’re Bronco Bob Approved! 👍
Love the content and to the point style. Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Thanks so much - just a great job. The Bronco looks awesome!
Glad you like it and thanks for watching!
Hello fellow Pittsburgher! I am very interested in the base 2 door myself so I have subbed. Congrats on your Bronco!
Thanks for the sub! I have yet to see another Bronco on the road anywhere in Pittsburgh (I have seen them in parking lots at the dealer)
Looks nice on the steelies to. Thanks 👍
Awesome vid, shows 33's will work fine with any stock suspension trim level.
Yes it will!
Have same tires on my FJ cruiser. Great tires! No complaints.
Good to know! The only negative feedback I have seen on them is that they tend to catch and hold rocks in the tread, and then launch them later when you get back on the road.
Nice work, I’m going to do the same thing as soon as I get my 4 door Base. I will show your video to Costco guys as they usually go with what the sticker on the door.
You might have better luck mounting this tire if you go to more of a family run business or a local shop. Costco guys might tell you they can't do it.
paint rims white, VERY COOL, this is the bronco id buy, back to the basics, I would order them with the BFG K02 tires white letters out old school
Looks good, love the steelies
Thanks for making the videos. It's nice to see a base model get simple upgrades.
This is very helpful. Love videos that answer my dumb questions.
Glad I could help, that is why I do this!
Those 33s look great! Ordered my base model yesterday, $31,410 cannot wait, I initially wanted to try 35s but I know I would have to remove the crash bars which I'm ok with but it may also need a 2" lift to fit 35s so I think I will get myself some good looking 33s
Good plan! Save yourself a LOT of money. Unless you are going to be doing extreme level off-roading, you should be good with 33s and no lift.
Once you slap on 35s you need to look at gearing because you will start putting more torque on your drive train. It's not just a lift. 33s look perfect and are still in the "safe range". Probably even 32s with 12" width will look great as well.
The engine in that Bronco sounds like an air pump running. The Branco looks really good with those tires on it.
Sadly....do not buy a Bronco for the engine tone, that is for sure
Looks awesome!!
First mod I’m doing. Terrific video
Thanks!
Looks great 👍..first thing I'm doing whenever that is.
Nice!!! That exactly what I would do…love the old school steel rims!
You and me both! thanks for watching
Looks good man. New sub from South Carolina
Thanks for the sub
Damn looks fantastic!!
I prefer the bronco in a basic level. Looks like I would order mine
Love the 2 door with steel wheels. Seems to fit what the bronco should be better than other trims. If I got one it would be as base as possible but with the lockers and 33s.
Unfortunately as of right now the only way to get lockers from the factory on the Base is to get the Sasquatch package, which comes with 35" tires, front and rear lockers, upgraded shocks, etc. I am sure there will be an aftermarket install in the future for people like me who want just a rear locker some day.
@@BudgetBronco as of ‘21 I believe that also means a auto trans. ‘22 should have better options for manual trans.
Wow, looks great. That size should be the one the base comes with.
Well, the nice thing about Base is you paying so much less on MSRP, that even with this $1000 investment in tires you are still getting a great deal. Thanks for the comment!
Looks outstanding
Thanks for watching!
Perfect size for 2 door!
Heck yeah makes a big difference. Ima get my base rim painted black
On carbonized grey and rapid red, that is a great look
Looks good. This Bronco gunna roll right over those curbs at the mall.
Admittedly will be a 90% pavement Bronco, there aren't a lot of publicly accessible ORV areas in Western PA. But I will be going off road and will post videos soon.
@@BudgetBronco try Rock Run east of Pittsburg.
Good tip, thanks!
Looks so good with those steel wheels.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Keep up the great conversion. White rims like everyone mentioned. Maybe a retro white pin strip.
I am definitely considering a white stripe, maybe the one from ridergraphix.com
looks beautiful on the 33's. thats just the right size for a stock bronco.
I agree, for the 2 door. On the 4 door either 33 or 35. Thanks for watching!
btw….i very much enjoy the detail you provide!
Thank you, I appreciate your commenting!
That…. Loooks so good!! The stock tires just don’t look quite right. But I love the look of the steelies. This is a perfect combo
Thanks! 👍
Very nice, I wanna do this to mines when I get it in
This is ideal. That looks amazing, makes great use of the wheels, and probably doesn't take it completely down to 15 MPH in gas mileage.
Thanks! Yes if you like the steel wheels, this is a really good and low cost option. I think you will lose maybe 2 mpg. I am still getting 21 mpg average with mostly highway driving.
Love the look awesome choice
That looks great!
Thanks for the comment!
Looks amazing
Thanks!
Looks awesome 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks awesome 😎
Thanks for watching!
this is a great channel
Damn that looks sharp!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Was thinking about doing the exact same thing, did not want to pay the extra $5000 for the Sasquatch package, glad to see it works/looks great. Thank you so much for taking the initiative!
Glad I could help!
Great Video! Great job and I want your old tires!
On my Mustang, I had a second set of wheels, sensor and tires for the winter. I am thinking of doing that for the Bronco. The base steelies with 30s for the winter/snow and larger wheels and tires for the summer "off roading" season. What do you think about the base tires in the snow?
They should be good for the snow...make me an offer!
Big difference, much more aggressive off road look.
I ordered the base with the Sasquatch package although I’m using it for mostly road driving. I will change my order to base with the bumper upgrades instead.
Good call!
I have 33x10.50 15s on my 03 taco and love them
That is a great rig! Thanks for watching
looks great
looks good and not over doing it with a way over size tire.
Thanks for the detailed video. I am also a fan of the base model with the steelies. Another concern you don’t mention in the video is speedometer error with the drastic change in tire size. It must read a lot slower than actual speed, no? Is there a way to adjust that since other factory options share 33” tires?
You are correct. With the tire change, my speedometer and odometer measure about 10% under where they should be. So not a lot lower, but a bit. It is possible to change the settings using ForSCAN to recalibrate them. I intend to show this in a future video, but there are already some other YT videos out there on the subject.
Looks awesome
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
It looks real good
Thanks for that!
Man looks good
Cool video, good info
Glad you enjoyed it
I love the channel and will be orderingine July 15th.
Are you still happy with the 33s on the stock steelies?
Thanks again for the great documentation, I think that it helps a lot of us out here, plus it's just cool to watch someone modifying his ride 👍
Thanks Tim! I am very happy with the tire selection, no concerns at all, they have been great. I would definitely do it all over again if I was starting with a Base.
