  • Every truly dedicated gamer knows that comfort is key.
    From Valorant to League of Legends, players will go to incredible lengths to get things just right.
    But if you’re searching for the true comfort freaks, the biggest weirdos of them all, look no further than professional CS:GO.
    From cursed postures to carpal-tunnel-inducing mouse grips, CS:GO pros have found some rather creative solutions on their quest for the perfect way to play. Players will do whatever it takes to ensure they are performing at their peak - and there’s really no right or wrong way to go about it.
    Unless, you're Dion "FASHR" Derksen, a CS:GO pro playing for Fnatic who made it to the Champions stage of the Rio Major using the absolutely most hideous keybinds imaginable.
    So, how the hell did FASHR get to a Major while playing CS:GO like it was a flight sim? Why did no one stop him? And is it possible that his config could actually be the better option?

    What I love about this story the most is that it proves that the only thing what really matters in standing out and going pro is your dedication and practice.
    We, casual gamers, always look for "what keybinds, sensitivity, mouse, keyboard, monitor etc are the pros using" but all what it comes down to is actually just how good you, as a player, are.

    • @housemana
      @housemana Год назад +2

      but it really doesn't come down to that, either. you are missing a crucial element in your analysis: the "x" factor. for every FASHR, there are thousands of equally skilled people striving for the same thing who u will never, ever even know exist. luck is simply when opportunity and preparation meet. but what is simple, is not to be mistaken for what is possible or achievable with "dedication and practice". that is only half of it.

    • @hunatya3183
      @hunatya3183 Год назад

      While I agree that luck is an inevitably important component of a succesfull carrier, I would like to naively believe that the more skill you have the less luck you'll need. And when I say skill, I also mean skills like self-advertisement, social -skills, negotiating-skills, so stuff like help you being a better "manager" of yourself.
      By producing flashy montages of your 1 in a million plays consistently, I truly believe it's only a matter of time people will pick up on you. Then comes to the picture your social-skills by interacting with more known people from the community, once an org has picked up on you, comes to the picture your negotiating-skills to have a fair salary-performance demand etc.
      So yes, luck is crucial, but you can interchange it with not just ingame skills, but with abilities from other parts of life.
      I also like how you phrased "luck is simply when opportunity and preparation meet. but what is simple, is not to be mistaken for what is possible or achievable with "dedication and practice"" very true and need to be emphasised.

Of course this doesn't mean you must get a 150 USD mouse, and 80 USD pad and a 150-200 USD keyboard, no matter what, but a carefully tailored gear can make your life SO MUCH easier.

      Being able to quickly press any two of the wasd key like forward and back and left and right or even top-right + bottom+left to stop moving and thus reducing recoil in CSGO by pressing extra keys rather than letting go which is reliant on spring speed and deactivation points on mechanical keyboards.

      I don’t use WASD for movement. I don’t have a specific set I use since it depends on the game and how many other keybinds I need, but WASD is just too cramped and shoved so far over to the side it limits what other keys I can reasonably use.

  • @R3_dacted0
    @R3_dacted0 Год назад

    I usually do end up changing keybinds in my games but generally nothing too drastic.
    I will say that for the first real online FPS game that I ever played, my keybinds where ALL over the place. They where completely unorthodox.
    I used arrow keys for movement, insert/page up for strafing, num0 for jump, right ctrl for crouch and right shift for sprint. I eventually grew out of it in favor of more default controls when I had to change keyboards... but the cool thing about that side of the keyboard is that there are so many other keys to use for different functions that simply don't exist on the left side of the keyboard.
    Also, moving with the mouse actually isn't all that weird to me. In the same game I was talking about above, I would play on a server with a team of _really_ good players and they also bound their forward movement to their mouse and had a few other unorthodox bindings.

    Been playing FPSes since original Half-Life and have always used:
    forward: mouse2
    back: D
    left strafe: S
    right strafe: F
    jump: E/mwheel
    scope/secondary weapon function: W
    reload: R
    This was the config my neighbor at the time used and since I didn't have a computer of my own, I just used what he used. When I did get my own computer (and DSL, haha!) I continued to use his binds. The only issue I've run into is that newer games tend to have more binds and functions and it takes a while to find a setup that makes sense not based around WASD.

    I'm a left-hander who uses a config that confuses some people. Based on playing the old keyboard bindings of games (been around long enough that they weren't 'old' when I did them). It's unorthodox, but works for me. Less so anymore, as my hands don't move as well as they used to, but I used to be among topped rank players (by CLQ) in ChaosQ2 and even top 0.1% in Counter-Strike. Use what works for you, don't try to wedge yourself into someone else's play style if it's not as effective for you.
    Yes, I use inverted mouse as well. In fact, here's my old Counter-Strike setup: Arrows to move. Left button or Enter to shoot (and yes, sometimes I would use the keyboard for faster firing of the dualies). Jump on right mouse, crouch on middle mouse. Scroll up was reload, scroll down or u for open/use (needed one one keyboard to hold to defuse, can't hold scroll). Alt-fire/scope was Num 0. Walk was right control. Thumb was "previous weapon". And I'd use the numbers to que up, but not auto switch weapons. And yes, by CLQ I would place in the top ~200k players out of the 2-5 million Counter-Strike players it tracked.

    you may question why exactly esdf.
    it was still in same shape as wasd, and as i already normally rested my pinky on the side of shift and ctrl, moving the hand to be over esdf made me naturally rest the pinky on top of shift and ctrl, bound alt to one of the two thumb buttons on my mouse, had 1-6, qwrt for main hotbar of skills, agzxcv for macros, shift alt and ctrl used as modifier to bind to other hotbars with skills and items and macros.
    on top of that, when i played wow, i had a mouse dpi of 3200 and in game mouse camera speed that was almost maxed (dont recall value but i know it was very high), even slightest movements of my mouse could almost do a 360 rotation, nowadays my mouse is set to 600-800 dpi and in game (csgo) sens of 0.95-1.25
