Its similar to Stolen Valor, were someone who never served wears the uniform and pretends to be a veteran. To take on the accolades and glory it brings and abuse it for their own ends.

Regarding Bobby's "magnanimous" gesture of reducing his salary to minimum wage: it's important to keep in mind that's just his *salary* . The bulk of his compensation comes from things like stock options, benefits, and bonus. To him, reducing his salary to minimum wage is the same as tossing a few pennies into the dish at the gas station.

    • @cuchulainnenjoyer

The classes and trainings are there to keep the company from getting sued because they "did what they could". They aren't there to stop the behavior. Treating people nicely is great and all, but you should not be required to do government imposed, corporate HR training, just to "have the privilege" of doing your job.

The dark humor jokes that made every1 laugh in college is a big no no in corporate. It isnt just about grabbing hoo haas. Personal comments that u wud pass in college with no thought becomes the basis of office tensions. Talking about politics is considered unprofessional.
These are the things that some1 new to corporate won't immediately understand. These trainings arent teaching "Dont sexually assault them", they are teaching you what actions can be considered uncomfortable by the other side when you have never really given thought about these things before.

For the record, no I don't work at blizzard. It might as well be though. Its a nepotism incompetence party. My boss doesn't even know how to use basic computer programs and has zero background in management. She'll spend all day working on a Excel document that would take any average person 15 mins. She constantly deletes all files and progress because she doesn't know how to use Save As or Save. So the next time she needs to edit the document she restarts the entire thing from scratch. She received her job because she was friends with her direct boss.
Nothing gets done under her because she sits in her office all day on her phone. Her direct boss worked in a completely unrelated field before this as well. Neither actually have any background knowledge pertaining to the job. They both cover for each other because the director in charge of the department is a pushover. As you can imagine, a nonexistant boss leads to constant bad behavior when people know they have no supervision. Tons of inappropriate shit happens. Boss finds out about it, but knows it will reflect her poorly for allowing it, so it just magically disappears and shit continues until it escalates into a big spotlight that needs to be dealt with. In steps her boss to save her and rinse repeat.

As a female developer, Asmon hit on something I've been pissed about for years - boiling down a woman's success dur to her gender or skin color. We see it way too much these days where women are promoted obviously only because they are a woman. Hell, we have a VP who is only VP because she is a female minority - Biden even said he'd only choose a woman and most likely a minority as his running mate. I would 100% be shamed if I found out that any of my successes with promotions were only because of either my gender or my disability to help a company look good in today's social climate.

This undermines real women and minorities who worked their ass off just like the men to prove that they are capable individuals. Problem is with extreme left politics it will always be outshined by their gender. Hell it is the reason they are fighting for jeopardy to have a female host and canceled every male placed in charge. Racism and sexism is openly acceptable and sadly we will have to wait for qualified people filing roles again till the political climate dies down. I would hate a position was given to me just because of my skin color or sex because that would mean that now all that pressure of representing that falls on my shoulders and if I fail I would fail everyone of them rather than just myself.

I can assure you, a lot of things people should be ashamed for is part of standard practice in companies. Turns out the average joe employee is exactly that; mediocre at best. What you're seeing is what happens when the above average competent employees are micro managed and unable to take lead when it matters (like now with ActiBlizz). This is most likely because the competent employees are one of the first to leave, as they will be able to get a new job relatively quickly and they aren't insecure about the acknowledgement of others that much (because they're competent and have a record).
A lot of stuff should be hidden until its under control in a company. If all the internals of a company were to be public, there is NO company in the world that could survive the criticism of the public. A scandal in this regard isn't that hidden stuff became public, but that its beyond the company's control to compensate for it before it escalates. And honestly at that point, they deserve all the consequence you get since that's below mediocre level management.
In software engineering, there is no such thing is recurring failure (over a long period of time). If it does, you're not engineering but messing around. Though some mediocre developers will argue that failure is part of the process, which I agree during prototype development projects, but not for deployed services. This is what happens in software/game companies where all competent people have been bullied away and nobody can create the oversight. This is what happens when commercial-orientated companies do not listen to their technical staff.

As someone who has given up on Blizzard,. that statement and everything around it just felt like more PR bullshit. We were still hearing about problems happening in the company, the game hasn't gotten any better other than in the piecemeal player-placation patches that should have happened a long, long time ago. They're trying to reboot the community council yet again which they have a tangible history of completely fucking ignoring.

I know someone who quit when the lawsuit first broke, said they wrote a long angry message in the "tell us why you are leaving" bit and they are already back resubbed and playing 4+ hours a day. They didn't get suckered back by the fruitbowls or the removal of dick jokes, they just couldn't stay away despite acknowledging the game is garbage and offering them almost no actual enjoyment.

I came close to tears listening to you reveal a working environment that practically every woman in the world has experienced in some form or another. The righteous anger and sincere indignation in your words made me feel relieved, almost. It's demoralizing working under such men as Kotick. Made even worse knowing if you complain, seek justice or attempt to expose the d***heads, you have basically lost your job, your livelihood and your reputation. The more powerful the men/company, the more backlash and retribution you can expect. When a voice like yours speaks out with a video like this, it gives me hope. I know your Mom would be proud!

There's absolutely no way the higher-ups in Blizzard didn't know about these things because sexual scandals are usually super loud, the word spreads rapidly and these are things that can shake the foundations of any corporation. So there were two alternatives, either good ole Bobby is grossly incompetent and has no clue of what is going on inside the company he leads, or he is actively allowing and encouraging deviant behavior.
In both cases, investors will not be happy.
