  • After faltering on the strict deficit handstand push-ups and falling out of a qualifying position at last year’s West Regional, Brent Fikowski wasn’t sure he wanted to come back. Instead of quitting, however, Fikowski aggressively attacked his weaknesses and trained harder than ever. This video follows him as he dominates the West Regional and sets his sights on Carson.

    I taught and coached Brent when he was a high school student at LCI. Even then, he was a stand up guy with a great attitude. This video does a great job of capturing his character. Brent, you are a beast and a great man. Very proud of you.

    Brent Fikowski was the first guy I ever watched compete at regionals in 2014. I remember him slaying the chipper and watched him try to Overhead squat in the final event. I pumped he finally has his shot at the Games. As a fellow skinny dude, I'll definitely be cheering him on this year.

    • @flahexer
      @flahexer 8 лет назад +46

      Compared to some other guys in Crossfit, you could consider him "skinny". While in real life and compared to regular athletes, he's a proper beast.

    As someone who competes in BJJ, I completely relate to "The one thing im scared about is what people think when I lose" - it something that can be debilitating for me. Its kind of nice to see high level athletes feel the same emotions as us "normal" ones.

      I think it's safe to assume they all use steroids. you should know that there aresomny types of steroids out there. some of them won't give u any extra size so him being skinnier then the rest of the crossfit games athlete isn't really proof he isn't using them
      personally I don't care. they are all using them so it's even steven to me

    Height plays much more into the success rather than weight. Consider the circumference of the snatch arc, the increased distance of a push-up, the increase drop of a squat, added up over thousands of reps in the CFGs you are talking about a person a few inches taller moving thousands of pounds of weight hundreds of meters further. CFG should either come up with height divisions or introduce algorithms into the scoring which accounts for repetition distance. For example, a 6'5'' man may move same amount of weight the same distance in far fewer snatches than a man at 5'9''. Men of these varying body types have no business being in the same class unless the balance of routines is set to give equal advantage to taller men, and currently, that is just not the case. I watched a documentary on it last night and it was quite obvious the taller men did not stand a chance in several of the events, and much fewer events played to the taller man's advantage. It's time to make it fair. Either weight scoring by height or have a division over 6' and another for men under 6'. Two divisions would be a good start. Brent moved the same weight a much further distance, on the order of hundreds of meters over thousands of reps, over the course of the 5 day competition than the 3 men above him (5'7'', 5'10'', 5'11''). Taking that into account, he's truly the fittest man in the world.

      its just a massive lower back muscle,
      and its pretty much only visible when you you lean forward,
      look at maxx chewning for example
