Absolutely love this book. I worked out of it as a student and use it with private students. The book is very practical and helps with everything from chops to feel. Thanks for the presentation.
I appreciate snide comments. But these are exercises and therefore intrinsically sterile. The point on working on these exercises is to be fluid and grooving when it matters (live or in the studio). I never saw Full House but I suppose its intro is lame and unhappening, possibly white bread.

@@evensteven8129 I have those books, but for me New Breed and Jim Chapin books are more important. Maybe not for the Funk style but for my overall learning of how to read note value and obviously how to be free and not feeling stuck when I'm playing drums. For me, learning very specific pattern will help and sound great, but to be able to be spontaneous and creative on drums with improvisation, without always playing the same ideas, is kinda hard to put in a book. I feel that Gary Chester with New Breed, picking up a pattern that you have to remember while reading notes over it, that's something else for the brain.
One of my favourite instructional videos, I thinks it is not for funky drummers only, if you learn to play correctly all these patterns, you are a good drummer! Most of the patterns seem to be easy to play but they are not, snare or hihat strokes on bass drum strokes are not so easy to play tight.
I'm looking for a drum kit that delivers a snappy sound. I tested the Gretsch Catalina today, but even though the drums weren't tuned, the mahogany shells seemed to ring for too long. I'm aiming for that sharp, funky sound with a quick response, like a high-caliber gun. What brands and models should I consider? I'm thinking about the Yamaha Vintage Hip Kit or the PDP Daru Jones, but I'm open to suggestions. Also, it needs to be compact enough for an apartment. Thanks!
I’ve been drumming for about 3 years self taught and I really wanna take my playing to a new level by learning some awesome grooves and fills if I could have someone point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it I’m really in love with all music from the 70’s to the 2000’s

Really!?!?!. Funk Was born out of the Attitudes of the Civil rights movemen of the 1960s. Funk music has an attitude. And from what I've heard,, This isn't it. If one is going to learn to play funk,,, it wouldn't be from this book. "You can do the Watusi,,,but we are the Watusi".
Another gem to add to the collection.
One of the best instructional videos. I have this on VHS. I met Rick at NAMM and he is a real nice guy.
I studied out of Ricks book "Advanced Funk Studies". It is a must have for any drummer~!
I don't know if I'd say it's a must have.
Dude that snare sounds so clean! 🥁👍
Yes it does!!!!!
Have the book - I've never seen the video. This makes me want to dig back into his book!!! Wonderful drumming!!!
I really like the sounds of those "muffled" drums from 90´s
I used to have a set of those black heads on my drum set. It felt as if they absorbed lots of energy and would tire me out.
I've had this book since the late 1980s, did not know there was a video to go with it. Thanks for sharing!
👍‼️I loved going through his book in the 80s as a pre-teen!
All content and grooves... No wasted time. Great video

A whole hour study on how to play the intro to Full House

That’s a Jeff Healey era mullet.
Magnifico.👑👑👑👑👑👑
Damn this brings me back... looks like the 90s lol.
Really interesting stuff.
Funk has a soulful feel!

It takes these great patterns to a way higher level.
@@evensteven8129 I have that book as well and it is also amazing!

Kevin Keegan and Terry McDermott would of been proud.
these beats sound like the beats I do with my hands on stuff, I guess I am whatever this style is
the band is hitting a 5 for 5 on the mullet ratio. That is 100%.

I need that tshirt
The funkiest part of this video is the dress code for the band
This book was published in 1980.
corny music but damn, they sound so good..very good video..
snare sounds great
What?!
I knew I has seen Cam from Modern Family somewhere before.....
Is that a Russ Miller Groove Wedge on the lower part of his snare? If so- what's it doing there? Instead of the usual 2:00 position...
So sounds like jeff pocarro!

They don't! Amd great comment! Great song also
Is that John C Riley?
LUSSSSSSH,,,
Funk is a raw sound. This is no raw! It's pretty!
Great drummer but reminds me of George W Bush with a rock hairpiece. Once you see it you can't unsee it.

It IS Funk just, Jazz-Funk. 👍🙂

Not really funk. Stinky fusion more like. The opening track at least.
@@uralmash07 I did, and the first track was still stinky fusion.
