Queen, Mott the Hoople and T-Rex were Joe's biggest influences. He did a great job with this performance. This was when Guns and Leppard were the two biggest bands in the world. 20 + years later we have Justin and Gaga. Glad I am old and on my way out.
Songs are best suited for different occasions... this one is MADE for live performances! Nothing gets the crowd going like Tie Your Mother Down!!!!!! I'd sell my soul to be in that crowd!!! Oops, correction - if I'd sell it, it'll have to be for Wembley 1986 ;)
@30secondsMusic - She named herself after one of Queens songs, also Brian down some work with her on track 'You&I' and they become friends and now he's asked her to come on tour with Queen. It's a bloody smart move by Brian May its such a shame that a lot of the posters can't see what Brian is thinking. Gaga is the biggest pop start on planet at the moment (a title that shifts every few years) and by have her as the new singer Queen's musics reaches out to a younger generation.
First minute or so is great; basically the Queen lads doing their thing. Gotta love it, even if Freddie wasn't there. You can keep the rest of the video though. No idea what Brian and Roger were doing when they were picking guests.
One thing about Slash, he was one of those incredible guitarists that established a signature sound that is unmistakenly his. For anyone who knows guitar it is utterly impossible not to recognize his sound. Just like you will always recognize Page, Hendrix, Rhoads, Angus, Dimebag, etc. You just know it the instant you hear it.
+Will Burton You know, at first I would've agreed with you, but after going to a few Queen + PR and Queen + Adam Lambert concerts, I have to say Brian may has developed more then I would've ever imagined. I also think Adam Lambert has a good voice. Different, but good. I mean, no Freddy, but his range is also incredible. Sadly, When watching the recent Rio video, with Roger's voice getting weaker, and more mistakes from Brian, maybe it's time to finally lay Queen to rest.
***** In my opinion recently, they've been looking and sounding tired, I mean Bri is 68 now. If you listen to the guitar solo of Bohemian Rhapsody it's a bit messed up, and also Roge seems tired when singing a kind of magic.
***** Not the point I'm making at all, you're missing it big time. It's not about practicing it, he's being doing it for 40 years. My opinion of it is, they've had a good run and it's time to hang up the gloves.
Some say, he was born with guitar pick in hand, and that his first word was rock, all we know is he's not Brian May, but he is his american cousin, Slash.
I've seen this song performed several times with Mr. Mercury singing vocals. And I've seen it performed with several other good leads and I have concluded that as long as we have May, Deacon and Taylor together, this is still a great tribute to Freddie. You can't ruin a great song. It was written by May as were several of Queen's biggest hits. I was surprised to know that.
Its like a who's who of the rock world on one stage for one night singing some bloody mega songs with a crowd going nuts, pretty much doesn't get to look any better than this!
They all sang a lot of harmonies with Freddy, all had voices, it's just that Freddie's was...well, just amazing and powerful and huge. I look at the backup singers and Joe Elliot doing a credible job, but then Freddie carried the vocals for the entire band all by himself. I think it really underscores his true talent.
In some parts of this video, even some of the best man-made sound system and amplifiers couldn't match the noise of thousands of people that sing along from the bottom of their hearts, out of a memory of a truly beloved and admired artist. Nothing could. I got goosebumps. Wish I was there.
has anyone ever seen the unedited version of this show? Slash comes out rockin but forgets he's tuned a half step down and he starts playin and its outta tune and he gets a look on his face like "oh shit"
At 0:15 the band kicks in and all hell breaks loose in the crowd. This was the first show I ever seen with that many people all jumping at the same time. When I seen this when MTV showed it in the early 90`s it blew me away the power they still harnessed. This clip was the power highlight of the show. Queen took the stage and showed the world once again how to rock.
My father was there. He told me he could distinguish from his position Bryan May to Slash just to the fact that Slash was without skirt. LOL! Great job and concert anyway!
This will get the party started!!! Wicked song since I first heard it!!! Yeah man, was under 10yrs old.. always stuck with me, and when mum and me danced to this I had so much fun, so therefore a great memory...x GOD BLESS!!x
I love the way Mr. Brian play the guitar he is as my grandpaa... he has some charisma while playing the guitar and the way he stand holding the guitar and his moves is absolutely phenominal... love you Mr. BRIAN...😘😘😘
How to start a concert? Roaring guitar, thundering bass and drums and a bingbang explosion. Like roger taylor always said, the first 10 minutes you got to deaf and blind them. Queen did!
Blonde guy -- Joe Elliot, Def Leppard. Like Slash was supposed to stand in the back and play rhythm, lol. Good job considering the clusterfuck, Brian is trying to watch Saul's neck to see where he's at, fortunately Joe knew all the words, who knows what the hell they were hearing up there, probably sounded like WW3 onstage, haha.
It's very curious, Slash smokes like a chimney !, and I read sometime that Brian May hates the cigarettes smoke, by the way , he forbids to smoke in his concerts lately....
@3117ss You're either the gayest girl I've ever seen or the gayest dude I've ever seen. The proper thing to do is to just not comment on Slash's semi-nude body. Thank you.
They're great guitar players, why not? instead of saying things like ''this dude sucks'' or ''fuck xy'' we should all try to appreciate the different kinds and styles of bands and musicians that make Rock awesome.
No, I think Slash way better than Zakk and is more influential. So many modern day guitarists state him as an influence.... So many guys picked up the guitar after seeing him playing great solos like in "Sweet Child O' Mine", "November Rain" in MTV and music videos. (Syn Gates for instance). Also, Slash is more faster than him... Just listen to the shredding and amazing choice of notes in "Nightrain", "Paradise City" and all; the notes dont follow scales at all. But Zakk always pentatonic.
What about Buckethead, he is a mordern day guitarist. Just listen to "Nottingham Lace" by Buckethead... It blows away all the 70s and 80s rock guitar soloing style. It was released in 2005, who says guitar solos are out of style. And Synyster Gates... he is an amazing guy and quite young aged 28
I seen Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page in other comments so I'll go ahead and name a few that should be up there: Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Chuck Berry, Les Paul, Kirk Hammett and others... but in the end Brian May is still an AMAZING guitarist.
Does anybody know where Slash gets that biting dirty tone from, is it an effect, I know he does alot of double stops but it's just so raw....Anyone know how i can get that tone, i have a Marshall Slash signature 2555 SL. So i quess it's an EQ i need?
I agree I am not those idiots who think fast is better.... Some players are amazingly fast but have no tune or melody in their solos eg. Yngwie Malmsteen , who IMO is the most overrated guitarist ever to grace this planet.
brian sounded good singing but were those the correct lyrics? maybe he was just trying to kill time time till joe got on stage and sing..being rushed or somethin forgot how it goes????
Brian and Slash, there are three things you can say it looks like, Slash is Brian's out of control son, his out of control little brother, or you can say Slash is Brian's dark side.
And a musician can also play wild and carelessly and create great music . Have you ever listened to Hendrix ? Jeff Beck ?. I certainly dont believePage or any of the guys you mentioned are 'the greatest' .I dont claim to know who is the geratest .Its subjective. But I dont think playing everything spot -on and cleanly constitutes a great guitarist. Was Picasso a great painter? People loved his art and found it far more fascinating than what his contemporaries were doing . YOUR point is stupid
Slash ?...*sigh* Slash is....nothing. And let me tell you why. He is over-rated and he actually can't do hard shit. Check on other guitarists except Slash...Everytime I ask somebody : "Hey, who's your favourite guitarist?" "Slash." . It's annoying like fuck. The most annoying thing is that he thinks he's God. Check Jeff Loomis, Eric Clapton, Chuck Schuldiner, Matt Heafy, there are lots of guitarists that would have deserved that day with Brian May on stage.
,,This must be heaven for everyone''
Slash and May on one stage.
Queen, Joe Elliot and Slash on the same stage , Fuck Yeah
Queen, Mott the Hoople and T-Rex were Joe's biggest influences. He did a great job with this performance. This was when Guns and Leppard were the two biggest bands in the world. 20 + years later we have Justin and Gaga. Glad I am old and on my way out.
DameonJessey exactly
Now that's a CONCERT! Hottest ticket in town!

Saw queen once, saw def leppard once, but heck I missed slash......thanks for this one
@30secondsMusic - She named herself after one of Queens songs, also Brian down some work with her on track 'You&I' and they become friends and now he's asked her to come on tour with Queen.

All my Love tonight Freddie!
QUEEN EVERY DAY
Took the words out of my mouth my friend!
I'm smiling every time I watch this! It just makes me so happy :D
First minute or so is great; basically the Queen lads doing their thing. Gotta love it, even if Freddie wasn't there.
You can keep the rest of the video though. No idea what Brian and Roger were doing when they were picking guests.
Battle of the big hair.
Lol
@letmeinterrupt ..i agree i play bass and he is so underarated.. he's amazing
This is why Queen should never have got involved with Adam Lambert so much better with out him Brian does a better job by far
***** I think all TRUE Queen fans wanted! There's no Queen without Freddie Mercury and John Deacon.
+Will Burton I agree totally! Brian is an excellent singer.
+Will Burton
You know, at first I would've agreed with you, but after going to a few Queen + PR and Queen + Adam Lambert concerts, I have to say Brian may has developed more then I would've ever imagined. Slash is not a better guitarist than Brian, don't overlap him, Ever
I wouldn't say that anyone is better than Brian, not me.
Jimmy Vee
I could name a few - but Slash is not amongst them, nor nowhere near them or May.
Brian who? Excuse my ignorance!!! :(
Brian May
que importa quien es mejor ? es un concierto homenaje..no era un duelo de guitarristas -_-
Fucking fuck slash is so coooool....... \m/
Some say, he was born with guitar pick in hand, and that his first word was rock, all we know is he's not Brian May, but he is his american cousin, Slash.

Linda De Jongh Zeker weten! haha
Its like a who's who of the rock world on one stage for one night singing some bloody mega songs with a crowd going nuts, pretty much doesn't get to look any better than this!
Two big guitar heroes!
SLASH and BRIAN MAY... Just amazing!
Epic
@JillHiggsBoson >.> Ummm it's Rodger Taylor...the original drummer from Queen.
deaky is soooo cute!
" Tie Your Mother Down" by Queen,Joe Elliot and Slash at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.
They all sang a lot of harmonies with Freddy, all had voices, it's just that Freddie's was...well, just amazing and powerful and huge. I look at the backup singers and Joe Elliot doing a credible job, but then Freddie carried the vocals for the entire band all by himself. I think it really underscores his true talent.
joe's voice is quite good for this song
Rock "N" Roll
Awesome!
Brian's a great singer in his own right.
Great performance by everyone.
Holy shit, anyone who thinks Queen wasn't one of the all-time great live bands needs to listen to this. The energy level is UNBELIEVABLE.
3:24 awesome jump
Slash, Brian May & Robin McAuley.
Best curly haircuts in the history of rock n roll!!
brian should give joe some singing lessons
...and slash some guitar lessons
SuperScootDude he's better than Adam Lamb chop
+Mark O'Cain You're havin' a laff ..
+SuperScootDude no, I think that joe is a very good singer, you should listen some def leppard songs
At 0:15 the band kicks in and all hell breaks loose in the crowd. This was the first show I ever seen with that many people all jumping at the same time. yo soy gran fan de guns n roses pero yo y todos tenemos que aceptar que slash no le llega ni a los talones a brian
I just sit hear with a big smile on my face and enjoy how much John Deacon enjoy it ...
mt bom
slash only came out because he saw a cigarette butt roll out onto the stage anyway
@RickyBalboa04 Hahaha! Top Gear reference! Just me who got that
Two of the best guitarists the world has ever seen right there baby...gives me goose pimples...hell yeah
My father was there. He told me he could distinguish from his position Bryan May to Slash just to the fact that Slash was without skirt. LOL! Great job and concert anyway!
sorry mate, Its Brian with an i.
Nothing compared with Freddie Mercury but still alright .....
I have to admit...I probably would have filled the cup on this one..if I were there!
que buen video ver a queen y slash juntos :)
Oque esse palco tem de cabelo, Tem de talento
This will get the party started!!! Wicked song since I first heard it!!! Yeah man, was under 10yrs old.. always stuck with me, and when mum and me danced to this I had so much fun, so therefore a great memory...x GOD BLESS!!x
I think he did just this show, his last one.
Queen did!
My favourite guitar player together with one of my beloved bands. I love it
This ROCKS!!!
Brian May.. wow. awesome shit
i had goosebumps throughout that entire performance.
Blonde guy -- Joe Elliot, Def Leppard. Like Slash was supposed to stand in the back and play rhythm, lol. Isn't there some1 missing?
love Slash but did nobody tell him to smoke a ciggy after the orgasm???........great vid
This super!
Great
Got to love John, just doesn't give a fuck, what kind of stage clothes is he wearing (my dads I think)? haha!
Great rendition of a top tune.
Ashba- baby
It's very curious, Slash smokes like a chimney !, and I read sometime that Brian May hates the cigarettes smoke, by the way , he forbids to smoke in his concerts lately....
slash is a beast..
I wonder what did Slash whisper to Brian that made him shock?!
Both of them were middle-of-the-road musicians, but guitarist / eventually turned out to be bad.

Bet Slash thought it was great to play guitar with May - just need Mark Knopfler to wander on and let rip...
I agree I am not those idiots who think fast is better.... Some players are amazingly fast but have no tune or melody in their solos eg. Yngwie Malmsteen , who IMO is the most overrated guitarist ever to grace this planet.

At one point i thought Brian May and Slash were going to morph together and form an awesome super-guitarist! :)
3:36 Joey Jordson
Yeah... those Leppards and Roses are fans of Queen too, they admited that, just like myself.
eu não nasci na época certa, porq Deus? Queria ta era nessa época ai, outro nível, quando as músicas eram músicas de qualidade. ❤
โคตรอยากไปเลยยยยย เสียดายเกิดไม่ทัน
@Chicken1397 WTF do you mean GNR... Sure Slash is doing the solo but Slash is no longer with GNR, he's gone solo as well as with Velvet Revolver.
WHAT A MAGNIFICENT BRUTALLY FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE ! ! :)
slash ,brian , the rest of queen fucking COMMEND YOU ALL ! BRAVO ! :)
wtf was that Slash solo was all about.
Slash ... in my opinion always was very overrated as a lead guitarist
part of Def Leppard
my fav queen concert,,,the hammersmith odeon one in 1975
I watched this for the first time a long time ago, but i remember reading about it in his book, and i found that really cool
@DoubleS0312 Not saying Slash wasn't great with GNR, because he was AWESOME, just pointing out he's not in GNR any more
And a musician can also play wild and carelessly and create great music . Have you ever listened to Hendrix ? Jeff Beck ?.
