Its easy enough to reproduce with a bit of know how. ;) The hard part is getting just the right balance of scooped mids with top end shimmer from an alnico. That ain't easy.
Chris Needham....you should see the two black and two white LP Customs Steven Maynard 'The Riffmaster' Clark had with a Kahler and PAF pick ups [triple].....these axes gave Steamin an amazing range and he also could riff heavy. Check out the opening riff and ride out solo to 'Photograhp' from In the Round Denver Colorado 1988. Steve had it all, penned most of their tracks, created amazing riffs, melodies and hooks, and was strapped low a rock star zipping round the stage. His creme Custom with Kahler was stunning, it is what I am in the process of getting, VERY expensive.
Well I'll be damned if that's not the best sounding Les Paul I've ever heard. It certainly doesn't hurt that Joel is playing it, seeing as how he can make any guitar sound like it's worth $70,000. If I were filthy rich, I would buy this guitar and give it to you Joel.
*Standing ovation* I really like how Joel takes a beast of a guitar and always produces beautiful glassy clean tones out of them! This video, the 1967 SG, and the pearly gates.... all great playing and awesome tones from such a simple set up.
This is the best sounding Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty i have ever heard. No contest. And that amp.....Jesus it sure does the guitar justice. Match made in Guitar Heaven.
Thanks Joel. I've now landed a 2004 '57 Historic Les Paul Custom partly because of this video. The 3 pickup versions are just stunning. Time to gig it!
It is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before. It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.....Damn! Im 14 at the Midnight Movie watching Song Remains the Same for the first time...
Love the classical choir for added effect. And that first distorted chord was not what I was expecting for the overdrive demo part of the video but it was better than I had hoped!
I just finished a 2 hour practice sesh with my new 1979 Les Paul Custom Natural Finish and this is the best thing to watch while I roll a joint. Subscribed.
Its the strangest thing, but seeing this guitar, hearing it... Its like seeing a beautiful woman that catches your eye. It gives me that weird butterfly in your stomach sort of feeling. This is a guitar that i MUST own at some point in my life
Very nice touch on the Zep...Chills and goose bumps! If I had the money, I would buy this LP and give it to Joel...Hope this guitar goes to a player...Nice work on the demo, consistent quality!
I like how he doesnt just concentrate on his playing/ left hand and moves his strumming hand across the humbuckers. Joe Sat once said “its very important to move your picking hand up and down across the pickups to really get the most out of a guitar”
This is fantastic. I'm a huge Zep fan but weirdly not a huge Gibson fan - although this is absolutely killer!! Love Joel's playing in this too. Have we finally got a contender to PGS Andy's throne? :D
the two PAF Burst gets the highly coveted 'middle positon' two PAF's together. This guitar while very sweet only gets one PAF at a time.....a bit different.
man...i was flying so high on that intro, that when you started talking i was like "what? wait...whats happening?! Ey you! stop talking man you are ruining my dreams!!"...and than i woke up...thanks a lot Joel..
Ah yes, the Black Beauty, definitely the best axe then, and the best axe ever made after '59. Maaan, those niiiiize sweet bluesy licks just laid me back and relaxed my head right nicely.
This video means so much to me. I had never hear The Rain Song before this demo, and it came into my life at a really important time when I was at my loneliest. I'll forever love this demo for bring it to me. (also this guitar is fucking sexy)
A guy was selling one of these for 150 pounds near me in the summer. Was pretty set on buying but due to complications had to give it up, still hurts to this day, what a steal.
What's most astonishing is how 'aligned' the harmonics are, for lack of a better term. The big chords 2:30 and the clean chords at 5:08 - there's no warble, no waver. It's surreal.
that is the probably the best sounding led paul I've heard. the clean tones are unlike anything I've heard and that overdrive sound was unreal . they are low output put yet sound very hot . it's open sounding but yet thick and warm at the same time. it sounds like those pafs have alnico 5 mags they have a ton of low low end I wish he played with a bit loose drive on the dirty tones. the gibson custombuckers do a very respectable job of imitating the paf tone although the real pafs are better by a fair margin. the custombuckers sound very similar though .
In other news, we are getting reports of a guitar being "mysteriously" stolen from Chicago Music Exchange, sources are saying it might be an inside job. Haha xD

That is quite literally one of the best clean Les Paul tones have ever heard
Its easy enough to reproduce with a bit of know how. ;)
The hard part is getting just the right balance of scooped mids with top end shimmer from an alnico. That ain't easy.
quite literally one of the best dirty tones i ever heard as well!!!
Yeah, those clean tones are insane. Crisp and shimmery yet full.
Yes it is- wonderful

It’s been years and I never forgot this guitar.
Me too.
Spare a thought for poor Jimmy Page... Must have been terrible to have had one of these stolen.
@@soundknight oh i agree absolutely its actually his story that made me want to check this guitar out
Either did Jimmy Page
That guitar needs its own Fan Club
This is the demo that made Joel a legend. Have seen this many, many times and it still rocks every time.
Gotta love an intro with my favorite Zep song
Joel is my favorite dude. But I freaking love all of chicago music exchange. The humor the passion the music. I could watch these videos all day.
great to hear someone play and talk who you can tell genuinely loves their job!
I keep coming back to this. It's a stunning demo of a stunning guitar. The tone and note separation is just perfect. And he's a great player....
Well I'll be damned if that's not the best sounding Les Paul I've ever heard. It certainly doesn't hurt that Joel is playing it, seeing as how he can make any guitar sound like it's worth $70,000. If I were filthy rich, I would buy this guitar and give it to you Joel.
NICKHAM16 But you are filthy rich and you are going to give it him (waiving hand jedi mind trick)
Royale We can all dream I guess

Man, ben affleck is killin' it in this video
Hahahaha I was thinking the same thing...
Hi kekekekekeke
hahjahahaha
@@JaviyPilar LMAOOOOOOOOOO!!
It's going to take Ben Affleck money to own that thing.
I heard the very first chord and I thought,
...No way.
Great to hear you play The Rain Song Joel, your work in Royale is blowing my mind.
BoHeroman We appreciate you!
My favorite music store. Favorite demo, with the exception of 100 riffs, beautiful song played with amazing feeling and touch. Congratulations.
You automatically know when a guitar is bonafide amazing when Joel has a hard time catching his breath in awe.
*Standing ovation* I really like how Joel takes a beast of a guitar and always produces beautiful glassy clean tones out of them! This video, the 1967 SG, and the pearly gates.... all great playing and awesome tones from such a simple set up.
18 dislikes... My god... WHO are those 18 people???
:-/
This is in fact a masterpiece work of art!!!
Divine sound and appearance...
18 losers who play Ibanez or some shit
Strat lovers
😂😂
Rain Song - Not a hard song to play when tuned to this open tuning. VERY HARD to play this well. Bravo!
That's true of a lot of Led Zeppelin songs. Kashmir is a bitch to play in standard, but it plays like butter if you tune your guitar to DADGAD.
Crimson Dervish u cant play properly kashmir in standard
What are you talking about . He plays in DADGAD
@@kleof.3529 DADGAD is an open tuning. Open G-suspended.
"The Rain Song" is so soothing. I also love how they paid tribute to Beatle George Harrison's "Something" by starting the song with the same chords.
This is the best sounding Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty i have ever heard. No contest. And that amp.....Jesus it sure does the guitar justice. Match made in Guitar Heaven.
I recently played an original 1956 LP Custom with the original single coils in it, just the feel of that guitar alone is unbelievable
I keep comming back to this video for years what an amazing guitar
I love it when people take the time to show what a clean Les Paul tone sounds like.. I love OD like anyone else, but clean LP is pure joy
That guitar is the holy grail.. I used to love my epiphone les Paul , nothing compares to that custom
These humbuckers sound much more clear than any other buckers I've ever heard!
Dude, this neck pickup sounded so beautiful playing rain song. Great song, great tone, great playing!
this is the best sounding guitar i heard so far
Thanks Joel. I've now landed a 2004 '57 Historic Les Paul Custom partly because of this video. The 3 pickup versions are just stunning. Time to gig it!
the tone in the last 2 minutes made me cry. literally. it's that good.
Easily one of the best sounding Les Paul's I think I've ever heard

One of my five Les Paul’s is this guitar. Absolutely love her!
I appreciate that you give clean tone a fair amount of time. If you can't also play clean you have no clue. Great crunchy tones too.
I just finished a 2 hour practice sesh with my new 1979 Les Paul Custom Natural Finish and this is the best thing to watch while I roll a joint. Subscribed.
A 3-pickup black beauty LPC is truly one of the most beautiful things you can lay your eyes on.
Oh, I just fell in love. What an amazing tone both clean and overdriven and what a stunning guitar.
rain song sounded amazing.
Beautiful and well played! In the right hands sounds great! I like the clean tones best!
😎👏🏻🎸
So I kinda just wanna start crying because this guitar is so gorgeous.
Fantastic reviews. Really like the conversational style. Great playing too!
Always love your guys reviews, love the longer ones like this vid please keep them coming

Whisper to a scream.
That sounds absolutely ridiculously good. The clean tones man...
That neck pickup is incredible.

I gotta learn this piece..love jimmy page...that sounded stupid good...

I agree. It's gorgeous, I'm gonna learn this piece if I have to work on it all day!
Yea really shows his genius if anybody ever questioned.
Is it standard tuning??
You shouldve learned it at age 5.
@@howlinhopkins4075 yeah but now I'm 10, dude...and I still don't know it...haha
possibly the best sounding guitar i've ever hear!
Amazing guitars - bizarre why flametops go for so much more... I'd rather have a 3 pickup Custom any day of the week..
the two PAF Burst gets the highly coveted 'middle positon' two PAF's together. This guitar while very sweet only gets one PAF at a time.....a bit different.
I watch this video once a month, the Les Paul and Tone King make a sweet couple.

R u serious?
Sounds amazing, great skill, good lesson in pick dynamics and strum positioning. Nice axe!
Superbly played!
If none of yall have ever listened to the rain song, listen to it now or when it rains. It's so beautiful!!
What a beauty and clean sound of your amplifier, the guitar is simply awesome. The best guitar ever (probably)
Some sweet sweet playin' man. Bravo!
Rain Song - Beautiful performance
Beautiful sound. Great job on the intro.
Very nice demo. Sounds great! Thanks for uploading.

amazing stuff, i got my eye on a LP custom black beauty 74 right now
That is THE tone. My God.
You play open chords when you kick on the distortion, instead of barring them, nice!

I've replayed the into 6 times now... T.T It's just so beautiful
I think Rain Song was Page’s Danelectro, though
great playing
were there any pedals used to get that sound from that amp? If not, WOW!

Nice job, great tone. I use the same custom tuning for the Rain Song.
