Yeah 100% the antidote! I've got mates who dj who have tinkered with tunes for ages but never really released anything. They're all trying to be purists and completely original but they give themselves to much work and they don't get into the track properly. Just put some samples and loops together if you're a beginner and get INTO IT!
I seem to overly complicate everything. This is so simple. I find myself trying too hard and end up making mistakes within my blocks with what I think should be there and what should actually be done for a good outcome. Producing these past 2 years or so has become so frustrating I'm at the point of stopping.
Hey, oddly enough I find your comment encouraging, because I feel the same! Making music is hard work, and I think most successful people will tell that the key quality is PERSISTENCE. Take a break, but don't give up. When it comes to the danger of messing up what you've already got, I got into the habit of simply duplicating the channel, or copying the old clip way off to the side, so you can restore stuff if necessary. Another thing for me: To prevent endless noodling with the same clip, I force myself to commit by rendering the MIDI to audio so I can't change it, and then I'm stuck with what I made. There's no such thing as a final clip - they are all subject to endless evolution so you have to know when to stop with one sound and move on to the next.

I'm just setting out on my production journey, been listening to dnb for years, and finally got a decent laptop and ableton. I've already experienced so much confusion and have frequently felt overwhelmed by how much there is to know . This was a great stepping stone to see how other producers arrange their drum and bass song so I can physically see them in ableton. My one complaint is on your ableton project file you used several VST's like serum etc etc that I don't not have sadly so I couldn't hear all of the sounds you made into the song. If you could make this again with only ableton instruments that would be freaking awesome. Anyway thanks for making these videos!! It really helps an aspiring producer.

Aaahh I am a super novice and using Garage Band to this track for now (I know haha), but your tutorials are so easy to understand and apply with any DAW for dummies like me. I'm not done yet, but this is my first time actually building a track myself and I used to get daunted, but just having the structure explained so simply has helped me make way more progress than I have in the past and I'm actually excited to keep coming back to the project to finish it/don't feel bad that I can't work any faster, just cos I know what I have to do now.
