However, men didn't directly touch and submerge women who were being baptized in the early Church (this role would be performed by other women, for the sake of modesty and decency). The Didache and the Church fathers allow for some exceptions when it comes to how Baptisms are specifically carried out, but altering the number of immersions isn't one of them. The first immersion must be made in the name of the Father, the second in the name of the Son, and the third in the name of the Holy Spirit.
