- Just a quick unboxing video of the Sumikko Friend device! It's the latest in the long series of Sumikko digital toys: Sumikko Atsume, Sumikko Sagashi, Sumikko Catch, Sumikko Mikke, Sumikko Water, and now with the latest release, Sumikko Friend! Although from the same line of toys, this one feels uniquely different from the rest of its predecessors because aside from playing with it like a regular virtual pet, it has an additional thing called Friend Mode where you can interact with it as though the entire device is your buddy / little pet!

I'm so excited to see this unboxing! I've been wondering if I should get this. I have the Sumikko Catch and Sumikko Water so far. I like the catch much better than the Water as it's much easier to take care of the sumikkos in Catch.. the Water is CRAZY difficult to satiate their hunger lol.
To continue from this, I just read the manual you kindly translated (thank you so much!) and from what I'm gathering, you can only interact with Shirokuma and Tokage in this one? There wasn't much in the manual that mentions Neko, Tonkatsu or Penguin?. Weird that they would kick off the other 3 unless they are planning another device with them on it, or selling the additional faceplates separately or something.
@@roxazaloah yeah I found it weird too that there's only 2 characters in this device. At first I thought maybe they'd sell additional plates separately that you can buy to "add on" new characters but I don't think so. The reason why I say this is because if you look St the middle of the device there's 3 small buttons, and there's some prongs in the plates that push into those buttons to recognise which character face to change into. I tried manually pushing all the buttons in different combinations to try to see if there's any other hidden characters but it seems like there isn't, which leads me to believe they probaly won't be releasing new characters for this device, which is a bummer for me.. I'd really love to have Tonkatsu!
That being said, this would definitely be an opportunity for the company to make new devices with alternative characters!
May I ask how long was the battery life and how many hours a day did you use it
I just got mine, I love it so far. My only issue with it is the battery life. It’s so much less than a tamagotchi

They haven't released it in English for the last 5 versions so I don't think they will do it for this one either. But it's really simple and easy to learn if you read the guide so it should be fine!

Thank you friends so much for sharing your knowledge. It's just that I haven't turned mine on, because first I want to find out about the correct way to turn it off. I don't want to turn it off the wrong way and cause some damage. Blessings.
@@FuzzyNChic and I have that fear, because I bought it on Amazon Japan. and there this product had worrying comments from people who bought it, they are comments related to the quality and durability of the product. I don't know if you've seen those comments?

I got mine from amazon japan and the only problem is it looks like theres a speck of dust in the upper left hand corner. I’m so bummed. I can’t return it. If this happened to you what would you do?
Oh no! Is it underneath the screen, so that you can't get it out? It sucks that you can't return it... If it were me, I'd be obsessed over the speck so much that I wouldn't be able to enjoy playing with it!
Are you confident in opening it up? I've had experience opening up Tamagotchis before so I'd try to do that, but definitely not for everyone. It really depends whether you feel comfortable opening it up to remove the speck (and if any point of time you don't feel comfortable to continue you could put it back together), but I really cannot advise that this is the best solution because I don't wanna be responsible it it gets broken.. But that's probably what I'd try to do if I see a speck in mine cos I'm the type to get all bothered by it.
If you could just look past it though then I guess its fine? I don't think it's that visible once the screen is turned on, and on the bright side, when you put the cover on, it will be blocked!

What happens when you dont turn it off?
You are not supposed to turn it off if you are carrying it around with you. The screen will automatically go to sleep after you stop using it for awhile, then just long press one of the buttons again to wake it up.

Does anyone know where I can buy this in Hanoi, Vietnam (where I am on holiday) or in Australia (where I live)?
As far as I know, it's not sold in physical retail shops outside of Japan. You will have to get them online. I got mine from Amazon jp. A lot of people also got them from Japan You Want.
